Recipes! Basil and Kozma
The most economical (long-term) and, in my opinion, fun way to do it is to play in the dungeons until you find a cool looking recipe from Basil (floor #4 in Tier 1). Buy the recipe, then win the materials, then craft yourself the armor.
Alternatively, you can buy recipes from Kozma in the Haven Bazaar. She sells a basic line of armor (Cobalt) that is pretty good. Lots of people recommend her sword recipes. The blaster gun is good and the bombs she sells are my favorite.

It is best you purchase them
It is best you purchase them from Basil until you are ready to begin obtaining Tier 3 Gear. You need to be prepared for unfair trades sooooo yeah, stick with Basil till you know what you are doing.
Buy them from players, (DO NOT) buy them from vendors, or purchase the recipes from Basil.
