I wanted to ask something , are there any plans to make Spiral Knights have Deticated Servers ? I read on wiki ( Not all of it ) that it's a good way for making a good connection for most people BUT it's expensive . But by looking at the number of people playing the game and spending cash , do you think there will be any plans for them sooner or later ?

Oh :o

Oh really O_O

Sorry , it seems I didn't get what dedicated servers mean . I thought if a game had dedicated servers it would mean : That someone will get the ping and latency based on his internet not on the distance from the server .

Is there a way to make someone's latency and ping be based on the person's internet connection ? Or there is no servers like this ?

I think that no matter what

I think that no matter what server you're playing, listen or dedicated, your ping is related with your distance to the server

I think there a big confussion:

On some multiplayer games, mostly FPSs (counter strike, call of duty, etc), there are 2 main connection possibilities:
-Dedicated or "main" servers wich every player connects to
-Matchmaking system where one random player gets elected as "host" and everyone else connects to him as some sort of "temporary server"
On this schema, having a dedicated server can helps since the connection is a stable, predesigned location prerared for it, rather than random.

But we're talking about different types of games. MMOs like spiral kngihts will always have dedicated servers.

"Is there a way to make someone's latency and ping be based on the person's internet connection ? Or there is no servers like this ?"
Latency and ping DO depend on your own connection, distance is another factor to add. Well in theory, if you had a super fast connection only for yourself, distance wouldnt matter.
Information has to travel from the server to your computer (and vice-versa) along with the information of everyone else using the internet. You cant ignore that.

Party & lags

Very interesting posts ! Never think of asking for it, but always thought about that.

If i understood well, SK is on dedicated server.
So when I am in a party, all 4 on the same country/location, but one is on a very low connection, why all the party is lagging ?

So..

@Little-Juances : So the dedicated servers is better ? Ok 2 more questions :s

First :
Is Call of Duty considered as Dedicated Servers or Temporary Servers ? Because I remember that every game a host is chosen , is that what you mean with Temporary Servers ? If it that so , I had better connection on CoD rather than SK :o

Second :
I have 30-35mb connection with fiber-optic , and the distance between me and the EU server ( Which I always use ) is about ~ 4947.02 KM , do you think that the bad latency or high ping I have because of my connection or the distance only ?

And thanks for answering guys :)
