Player Name Nametag Item

Suggesting a new item that could be purchased, Player nametag. Would be around 10 dollars, sold in the same fashion as an elevator pass, allows the ability to change the active Knight's name. Tags are sold unbound, and are bound upon use, as any other item. Usual name rules would apply to the Knight's new name as previous.

Due to the MASSIVE inconvenience that it is to change a Knight's gear in the event of a name or handle change, this minimizes the hassle for a reasonable, comparable financial effort on Sega's part.

Ok, it's your money, but are you ready to burn 10 dollars for a silly name?

Whether or not I'm ready to

Whether or not I'm ready to burn 10 dollars on a 'silly name' is irrelevant.

I have the money to spend, and if it's a good element to add, I don't see why not.

You're taking this well, but $10 IS a bit much for a name change, methinks. EPs are only, what, 6?

Mebbe 2? 1.5?

I'd love for it to be less,

I'd love for it to be less, but I'm weighing it against other options you have to customize your player's name. If you're a high level player, and you need a new knight? The cost it takes to unbind and rebind ALL the gear you have is, if you have lots of gear, can end up in the hundreds of dollars. Between five and ten is, at a rough estimate, a fair alternative for SK. They're getting their money, and the players're happy. Plus, it's high enough that players can change their names infrequently enough to not take advantage of the service, at 10 dollars per change.

Yup

Its a neat idea, But sadly sega make to much money off people converting there 5 star gear over, Which results in around.. 16,000 Energys worth of unbinding for 2 weapons and 2 pieces of armor.

If someone wants to change there 5 star account, Sega is 40-50 Dollars richer.

Theres no chance anyones going to pick this idea up and think "Hey lets give the players a fair deal with this."

but $10 IS a bit much for a name change,

A few MMOs do sell name changes in the cash shops and they tend to be around the £5~10 margin. EPs may be cheaper, but the idea is that a name-change would be a once-off feature, rather than a monthly purchase. Also, they would want players to buy EPs regularly and enjoy them, whereas name-change items are there as a convenience, to fix mistakes and therefore something that the majority of players can easily live without, therefore meaning it's less of a concern to make it cheap. You screwed up your name or decided you want a change; you have to pay to do so. It's like unbinding fees; they're so optional and non-essential that the cost actually goes up over more useful and helpful things like EPs.

The question comes more down to whether they want to sell it or not. There seems to be a dividing line between MMOs that will and won't allow players to change their names; some of them allow players to change it via support tickets but only if they can supply a good reason as to why they deserve a name change (such as abuse) while other games freely allow players to do so, and others yet refuse to ever allow players to change names.
It's possible a coding/technical issue could come into it where some games are simply easier to do so, but there are moral issues as well, such as allowing scammers to blend back into the community etc

Well, considering how being denied a name change after giving countless amounts of personal information that three rings/sega asked for.

Id'e say that's not entirely true :/

...What's not entirely true?

...What's not entirely true? I was just discussing MMOs in general and their attitudes and ethics towards name-changes. As far as I'm aware, SK does not currently permit name changes; I never stated that they did nor that they should. In fact, I never even gave my opinion on the matter; just responded to Psycho's post then went on a slight, relevant, tangent.

She's referring to your

She's referring to your comment about support tickets. I requested the SK support team for a name change for reasons I do not care to go into. They asked me for personal details regarding the matter (mostly why I wanted my name changed to what I wanted, and that was given), and what I'd like my name to be changed to. Following a near two-month period of my ticket having fallen through the cracks of SK support, they responded that they would not change my name, following requesting what my name change SHOULD be, and personal life details of what my issue was, saying it wouldn't be fair to players who had spent money to unbind their gear. I asked if it'd be possible to add an option to change my name via an in game item or service, to which no response was given. It was disappointing, but I don't believe that SK support had gone out of line, I just wish that they'd have given me a fairer avenue to getting what I wanted done, instead of leaving me in a lurch for two months, and then leaving me in a SECOND one, when no ability to have a name changed was given.

The point is is that there's plenty of reasons, mostly player-personal as to why a name change would be necessary. There are more than enough safeguards that COULD be implemented, high prices, time limits between possible changes, that could be implemented. This is not a technology issue either. If we are covering all bases of fairness, there is literally NO reason for Threerings NOT to implement this.

Keep in mind that I was being

Keep in mind that I was being general and stating that some games allow name changes but only via support tickets, while others sell it as a CS item and others still refuse to ever change it; I wasn't talking about SK specifically as I couldn't comment on that due to never having needed to make a ticket to OOO about such an issue, and haven't thought about name-changes for a couple of games now.

Although I'll agree that that seems pretty awful to treat the player in such a way. If they weren't going to, it'd have been much more polite (and helpful) to just openly announce to you that they won't change it, rather than making you jump through hoops.

I can understand the hoops,

I can understand the hoops, honestly, to make sure I wasn't some troll trying to take advantage of the SK Support team, but I'd rather they hadn't gotten my hopes up and just kept me wondering for 2 months while I'm twiddling my thumbs.

Aye, thas what I'd meant. I mean that they should only be sending you through hoops if they are willing to actually do it. There's no point putting the hoops up if they're not going to do it anyways.

Unless they would have, but never found your reasons satisfactory? In which case I'd still expect them to tell you as such...neither of which I can comment on ofc, without any knowledge in the matter~

Whether or not my reason was

Whether or not my reason was valid or not was apparently a non issue. In the second to last reply email, their reasoning for rejecting it was was that it was unfair to players who'd shelled out energy to rebind all their gear. Now, one could also argue it's unfair to provide an economical option to players to transfer items WITHOUT having to spend hundreds of dollars in unbinding fees. My girlfriend had to go through a similar situation, and had to pay for a HUGE amount of energy, and wasn't even able to save all her gear, just the essentials. Particularly after we'd both invested a large amount of money in the game, you think we'd have measure in place to be a bit more flexible with how gear's moved about.

Aye, in that situation they should definitely have just said in the first e-mail.

"I'd like to request a name change"
"No, we don't allow that".

Rather than sending you through hoops for two months before telling you it was all for nothing :/

That, I'm not as lenient with. However, it's not as if this isn't an easy problem to remedy.

i get it, but i don't... ._.

I get what the name ticket does because you know... name changer... it changes your name. But my real question is, does it affect anything else except my name or does it do like if i made a new knight, by that i mean does it remove your friends in your friends list... this may sound stupid a bit but i just wanna be really sure before i do anything crazy... I'm pretty serious about this because... just look at my name: Tiranoalfa ._. so plz I would like to know (:.^-^.:)

Now, pay attention...

That was a 11 month necro, almost a year. It also this was already implemented yesterday (kinda...). Though if your just looking for advice though, I'd be pretty sure it doesn't clear your friends list, though your friends may be confused on who you are (unless theirs a notification that you friend changed their name, I haven't actually been on yet.)
