Hello, I thought that I should become a bomber. I know that I need Demo Suits and everything like that but I'm not sure on which bombs I should use. I thought of using Nitronome and an elemental bomb(Atomizer/Vaporizer) but I just wanna hear your opinion.
Good Bombs
What I did when I started the game as a bomber, was focus on support bombing first and take steps at a time into dps bombing. Ofc we had more options back then, thanks to RSS, but not too much has changed. Even dps bombers will often carry a haze or two around with them to make the job easier, so already having hazes and practice with bombing beforehand is a good thing. Support bombing is a good dry run to make sure you're into bombing and well versed in charge-dodging and correct placement, so that when you get dps bombs you're already experienced. Jumping straight to dps bombs with no bombing experience (esp. in T3) can be dangerous, especially if you're using Mad Bomber.
As for which bombs, you're a bit stuck. Nitro and DBB are your main options, as the shards are still undergoing testing and experimentation to find optimal uses. You can use them but often find yourself thinking that it's taking dead long. Dark Ret is nice, but limited in use (I find). Vortexes are the way to go, though; they can be used purely as a dps bomb and efficiency only increases with other bombs/party members to dish out on top of it.
If you're going into support bombing:
- Shivermist Buster
- Electron/Graviton Vortex
- Voltaic Tempest
- Venom Veiler
- Stagger Storm
All of these are worthwhile support bombs, although I would definitely leave Stagger Storm until last. Shivermist will make you extremely popular in Vanaduke runs, the Vortices will both set up enemies for heavy damage from Brandish or Antigua-line charges, and Voltaic acts as crowd control whilst making swift work of clustered mobs, which is highly useful against kats (the spasms stop their dashes) and zombies (which normally come in slow-moving groups). Venom Veiler is good at softening up enemies, although it's primarily a support bomb and is only used in fairly specific situations (RJP and FSC, as well as LD from time to time). Stagger is favoured mainly for LD purposes, although it was invaluable in LoA; it recently received a bonus from the Stun fix, so I don't know how good it is now.
If you're going into damage bombing:
- Dark Briar Barrage
- Ash of Agni
- Nitronome
- Voltaic Tempest
- Potentially Dark Retribution
Dark Briar Barrage is a party-friendly pure-piercing bomb that can knock down large groups of soft-bodied enemies without the knockback and obnoxious screenflash of the Nitronome. Nitronome is pure normal, and flings everything all over the place; calling it the 'blue screen of death bomb' would be pretty appropriate. Other than that, Ash of Agni does decent damage from its fire to all enemies other than fire-immune creatures and Gremlins (which partially resist the damage). The Voltaic works away at large non-resistant mobs with some speed, although I've already mentioned it above. Dark Retribution is a reasonable shadow-damage bomb, although not as great as it used to be, and can still deal heavy damage to slimes (getting it to damage Gremlins is more of an issue, and you'd be better off with DBB).
I have heard numerous reviews on the effectiveness of the new shard bombs. I think the general consensus is that their fuses are too long for them to have a good damage output. If you want to get one, I suppose that the Shocking Salt Shards/Deadly Dark Matter Bomb and Deadly Crystal Bomb would be worth a try, given that there are enough slow-moving monsters weak to each damage type for the bombs to be worth it, and given the lack of shadow and elemental pure-damage bombs. As for the normal and piercing type bombs... I'd pass, if only because they are completely outdone by their counterparts, Nitronome and Dark Briar Barrage, not to mention piercing-weak enemies tend to be pretty dodgy.
Nitro's useful but parties tend to object to its flashes and knockback, so you need something else in groups. Dark Briar Barrage is good, so is Dark Retribution if you have the expansion. All of the haze bombs have their uses, but Shivermist and either Ash of Agni or Voltaic Tempest should be the ones you focus on first. Vortex bombs are great, but don't worry about getting one until you have enough CE to upgrade it quickly, because their radius is lackluster until 5*. Avoid the shard bombs.
Focusing on bombing first is tough, because 2* bombs have terrible range. You might want to start out with a haze bomb and a sword or gun, then switch to pure bombing once you've upgraded the bombs a bit.
