K, my opinion

*Disclaimer* I Was too lazy to read the second page.

I think this is a great idea but maybe you could have it so you can use tokens and mats to get the pets instead of just using tokens/Crowns
Also for people who are really bad at this game (Like me) who can't get past T2 or you know simply cant get lots of F***ing crowns it would be impossible to buy, fo Example: The colour change idea implemented not long ago required you to buy the colour change and it was REALLY expensive, I DO NOT want the pet idea to be around this expensive, rather using purely tokens/mats to obtain our pets

Sorry if you don't get what imma sayin', not many people do :(

There's something else I wanted to say but I can't remenber

also

can we do MOVES with our pets like there be a bar in under the heath bar where it the move bar, and it fills up when your pet or you attack monsters. when it fill up we can do like moves. i was thinking for the wolf (stacies-less) it be "wild hunting blade tearing bite " and it finsh, the pet loses the amount of S like when it attacked . the silkwing i was thinking heavenly healing blast of the angels. also can we use the other trinket slot for a another pet . also can we have Guard pets in guild hall just in case we get attack by monsters because i was thinking there could be like outbreak where monster get in guild hall and try to turn over but you can still enter it and get it back and for a reward , you get a newborn wolf or 2 or 3 ETC ETC. also we could use pets in LD just they will be one of the commends. also can put gear on out pets ?

P.s base on the outbreak it will not be always wolfs

Would Nonna be around all the time, maybe in the lab or would you only be able to get pets on special occasions?

If she gave the pets, then all the time. Otherwise the lab would give out pets.

@Biodragey (Because your post is too big to post)

Like before, you must have not read the OP. It said specifically that Tokens were involved.

@Severage

LOL KIDDING I WAS!!!!1!1111 XDXD

@Fireherat

First off, I may be misinterpreting you. It's rather hard to read something along the lines of and it finsh, the pet loses the amount of S like when it attacked . I'll only be responding to the stuff that I can be pretty sure I know what you are meaning.

No, only one pet per time. This was included before to have 2, but after giving more thought it would be quite powerful. (And not to mention, possibly disruptive.)

No guild hall attacks. That is interesting, but if you could loose something, that would make too many players rage quit. What happens when you loose some furniture? Just getting some free pets won't help. Also, it sounds like a guard is half-mandatory because no matter what, you'll get invaded.

No LD pets for several reasons. Who wants a wolver trying to chase after his striker-owner and then get slayed by some toothpick wielder?

Gear? Maybe. I was thinking of that. The only thing is, what kind? There would have to be a special gear type for each monster, being their all so different.

@Vial-Lent

Lololololol....wait wait....what do you mean? In what way? (Speaking of which, at the PAX events you, what if you could get a chao? XD)

Torchlight

@Original thread poster
Do you happen to play torchlight or torchlight 2? I thought you might have gotten the pets idea from it
Pets in torchlight are basically tanks that don't do much damage (main characters are usually ranged or mages), but it would be different for SK cause swords are popular.

@Sketman:

Due to there being virtually no aggro system or way to shift aggro, besides dealing damage, I don't see how pets, or players for that matter, could be tanks in this game.

Pets will only ever be used for a little extra damage or for cosmetic purpose. It would be hard to use them as tanks, especially since they draw on their "life-points", essentially, to attack.

Oh hey, a pet thread w/ more than "BECAUSE POKEMON" in the OP...

List of questions~!

1. When your pet runs out of "stamina" it falls back and is essentially gone until you are able to feed it at an arsenal station? If not at an arsenal station, we'll encounter the problem of pets running out of stamina constantly, and not being worth it... not at arsenal stations wouldn't work well.

2. How do you plan to balance this for the lower caste of players? "better" pets will obviously be harder to earn, widening the gap between rich P2P players and F2Pers further than it already is.

3. How do you plan to counter the whole "players don't even like the existing AI that helps them" thing? I dislike having the random mission knights fighting with me... why should I feel any different about a pet?

List of core suggestions~!

1. If pets are to run on a stamina system, I would recommend:
-Not having to repair them in order to use them again. T3 knights have materials coming out of their skin, but T2 players have still to scramble for materials.
-In order to avoid this, perhaps the pets should instead just get fixed at arsenal stations- and have to be fed an amount of materials daily (provided that the knight logs in.. pets that go un-fed for months at a time would die... unless the knight just wasn't playing. Higher leveled pets would obviously take more materials.

2. Make lower leveled pets take things like boss tokens to purchase, and higher leveled pets take crowns.
-The lower T2 and T3 players run the jelly king and vanaduke quite a lot (even if running roarmulus makes them way more crowns?)
-These are the players that need energy
-Allowing the T2/T3 players to get these pets for the lazier P2P players could be a boon for those that get stuck on the jelly king or otherwise.
-When I started the game, I could sell sealed swords and make a decent profit. This is hardly the case now... the prices have dropped, and finding buyers is harder as well. But it helped me get my gear at the time, as I didn't need to get more than I needed.
-Higher leveled players can cough up crowns like no other. They can also cough up jelly gems like no other, but they're bored with that run, and aren't about to start farming it for jelly gems so that they can earn more. They invest and they profit, or they run FSC if they failed economics in High School/have a soul. They can cough up FSC coins quite well, but thats beside the point- FSC coins take longer to get and directly translate into coins.

3. Change the method of telling your pet whats going down.
-Preferably some way to direct it without typing stuff, as that could get quite messy for poor typists wanting to change strategies
-Making it into a weapon wouldn't be a bad idea. That could allow the knight to send it out whenever she felt like it, and then would give them a sort of remote control to direct it over to an area. The knight would know its effect, and obviously want to use it.

4. Allow the trading of pets.
-Your pet should be tradable at the start at least. Preferably as it levels on as well, but should not be unbound (binding pets makes little sense).
-Certain pets could still be bound, should the devs, or you, see fit.
-Trading = good. Very good.

5. Rather than making pets come from family "This is normal pet. He bits and does normal damage." make pets hold different roles.
-Yes, 4 of them would have to go for the damage types.
-Other pets should be specialized- in other words, a "healer pet" would be applicable to drain health from enemies and then heal you. A "distraction pet" could possibly draw aggro away from your party and then dodge bullets/tank hits while you set up on the enemy.

Right now, a -1 to the idea; but with revision I could support this. Not of course, that that means anything ;D

Just an idea

I was just thinking, something that may make the whole idea of pets easier for the game mechanics to handle could be like...well. You said you would equip the pets into a trinket slot, [or possibly a new pet slot i suppose idk] and well, maybe instead of having the pet be an interactive npc type of character that can do damage on its own and move and such. Perhaps the Pet could act as just another item on your character, it would always stay at your side and never wander off on its own or interact in any way with the environment. It would just be the pet in animation with the model of your character, kinda like an aura or something. But, the pets could actually give the player some extra stats of their own, for example. Say you had a flaming pet of some kind, instead of him attacking with fire on his own or something like that the player would have a percentage (or something) chance of his own to deal fire damage and cause burning on hit. I was just thinking it might be something a little less game changing compared to the prospect of player equipped npcs that could do damage and take damage on their own. Just an idea.

@Fehzor

1: I agree. Either I need to give the pets more stamina or make them feed-able at arsenal stations. What do you guys think?

2: I'm....not sure........actually when I made this I had a token sink in mind. There are a lot of players with huge amounts of tokens that they can't even use. Maybe crowns, but maybe not. Idk. Maybe at release there could be a promo that lets you buy the pets for a large price? This way players wanting to get them right then can, but then soon it would change into needing tokens.

3: telling your pet what to do. I've said multiple times that all those commands are key bound as well. Open up the options screen and you'll see buttons for /attack, /helpme, etc. There already are keybinds.

4: Trading? Why? Pets are supposed to be raised. Not bought. >.> (Unless you are shooting for a Pokemon reference. :P)

5: I was hoping for something that didn't have millions of clones. I mean, what wolver deals elemental? What gremlin deals shadow? If you want a pet for each role, you get them all. Also, how would these 'roles' be gained? I don't entirely like this idea.

Overall: it seems as if you want pets to be cheep and easy to obtain. When you start letting them be traded, they start getting traded like MAD. This would make it not much of achievement to get a pet. Tokens ONLY would encourage playing. Something that a lot of end game players aren't really doing much anymore. (Note that if enough people support any of these ideas, I may put it in anyway.)

@Adelphus

Possibly, but that might not work well with other people who want actual battle pets. :(

The stat idea is a good one but would make pets OP in the case that they fight, too. Also having [put status here] on any weapon might get OP. Then I could have a fire pulsar. >.>

@Autofire/Fehzor:

1: Giving pets 'more stamina' might as well be giving them unlimited stamina. To be sure of every case, you'd essentially have to give them enough stamina as can be used in any run, which can virtually mean 28 depths. Feed-able at Arsenal stations sounds like a better idea.

2: Make lower leveled pets take things like boss tokens to purchase, and higher leveled pets take crowns.

I have no objections to that at all. ~30 Boss Tokens per boss per pet, ~100K+ CR for bought pets.

3: Already addressed.

4: Um...no...why...

5: Utility pets is of course an idea that should be implemented. Combat-enhancement only goes so far.

Oh, I didn't see that. Still, if you had gone down to Basil and forgot to feed your pet, like "Oh schnapps!" my pet is useless.

That's kind of the reason they made the Arsenal Stations in the first place.

I assume since you said "non-boss pets" you mean Sparks, not boss tokens.

Yes, I think Sparks and Crowns would be appropriate for non-boss pets, and boss tokens for boss pets. Makes sense to me.

Probably 100 or 150 Sparks for a pet?

Nothing costs over 150 sparks as of yet, that's why I suggested using the highest current value.

Anyway, with as few as people are running normal Clockworks now, I wouldn't be surprised if nobody had enough sparks for them, except that the person has been playing since forever and has tons of sparks.

~150 Sparks also makes it more new-player friendly.

Make it damageless and healingless. You should make it be helpful in other ways, such as storing extra vials & capsules for you, and/or do all status effects except fire and shock.

reading of this thread level=very little if any ;-;

I admitidly havn't read this thread or much of it, but I just want to give my thoughts on pets and this thread.
My thoughts on pets: They can work, but need restricktions to keep them from becoming over powered and terning this game into maple story or some other money grabber game. If the pet will fallow you into the clock work it should be very VERY limited to what they can do, I consider that high tier pets could do some MINOR effects in combat like disable puppy turrets for a brief moment (micro electric slime pet?) causing it to not fire. The pet can do slight free raom in towns and resting points but shouldn't be a possible threat to players in ANY SHAPE OR FORM or MASSIVE ADVANTAGE.they should also be disabled in PvP to avoid them becoming a factor in the game play.
My thoughts on this thread: from what I saw this seems to be very well thought out so +2 respect from me, (I don't hand these out often enough) and shows the amount of effort you put into this. The amount of possitve reports I saw also point to this, none the less if pets are implemted soon I hope you get some credit some were for it.

I've actually always had this idea looming in the back of my mind, and your way of implementing into the game was very thought out. I'd love to see this in a future update, but a quick question (I may have just read over an answer to this already): I suppose the baby monster accessories from Nonna will just remain unchanged? I wonder how this idea might conflict with that.
