Never thought I would see the day. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/606436
Spiral Knights now on Newgrounds.
In variable statuses that I would point out that sucks to know they're pressing people to create accounts via Newgrounds and get errors.
Honestly, why is Three Rings doing this?
Lets see.....
This game is accessible via....
Spiral Knights.com
Steam
Kongregate
That Chinese server.... gamecyber.net or something
Miniclip
Armor Games
Newgrounds.....
What's next OOO? Addictinggames? Please no. That's the worse place to put this game into. -_-
I don't see the problem. If this provides a new influx of players to keep pouring $$ into the game, which in turn will allow the staff to continue to operate and develop new content, what's the harm in OOO putting this game on every game site in existence??
@Rating, You don't see a problem with putting this game on every website in existence? Do you not see how many of the people who frequent many of those websites would ruin the Spiral Knights community? Newgrounds, for example, hosts tons of flash games (<13 y/o magnets), and pornographic content.
@Oatmonster I see how not continuing to bring in new players will ruin the game in a much more definite and swift way than expanding to new gaming websites, regardless of if said gaming website may be rumored to cater to younger players. Newgrounds is obviously frequented by many normal gamers, as I've already heard from many current SK players that they noticed the advertisement on Newgrounds.
It is against the ToS to be under the age of 13, so let those kids get banned permanently if they do decide to break the ToS.
EDIT: I would like to add that in a perfect world I would prefer to only see a huge community of mature gamers playing Spiral Knights, but unfortunately that is not the world we live in...
Another question for Oatmonster or anyone else who is raging about this: How would you recommend Three Rings expand the playerbase? Where are your suggestions for how they could be doing things better? I am genuinely interested
We're not against the influx of new players, but the quality of them...
Oh Vog, beggers, whiners and general impatient little greedy hands will reach new heights...
Nosrsly, OOO will definitely appreciate the new players; we can probably expect to hate the community it'll bring.
Not saying Newgrounds is only immature little whiners, but there are those on almost every gaming site tbh.
I agree 100% with the above statement...and I do have an issue with the quality of new players. Unfortunately, I see it as a necessary evil :(
"Unfortunately, I see it as a necessary evil :("
Neccessary; doesn't mean well/have to like it ;n;
Then hit up the Suggestions forum and make a list of gaming websites that you feel have an appropriate and preferable community that you'd like to see within SK, and suggest to OOO that they put SK on those sites as well. I don't think I've ever seen anyone suggest which sites they'd like to see SK advertisements on, yet we have complaints when they make the decision themselves.
and pornographic content.
Lest you worry, it probably doesn't host anything illegal such as snuff, pedo, etc., and by extension, the people it caters to. I don't think the porn is a problem, that considered. Maybe the worst the game will get are scat fetishists or something.
Wait, when did NG stop exclusively hosting Flash works?
"Wait, when did NG stop exclusively hosting Flash works?"
Haven't they moved on to other things for a long time now? (Or did you specifically mean games?)
I remember stumbling into their music section some years ago. Some good stuff there. Though, I can't say I knew they host big games like SK.
Is this why the recent Haven I was in was full of kids thinking they were boss bypassing the chat filter with swearing? I swear I wouldn't of been able to report them all if I even tried. :V
Great, Spiral knights added their game to another site.
I wonder if people form there get real Username and password to access forums, wikipedia, support portal or just like kongregate players (and maybe other too) they dont have any access to those above + F2P players cant buy OCH because OOO is supposed to "work on it" and this is bull**** since we already know that players on asian servers can buy OCH with CE so both p2p players can have it and f2p players.
if you are looking for intelligence, class, dignity, and engaging conversation from the SK population at large, you are doing it wrong. Find the people who are on your level, use your friend's list, get in a guild that matches your personality, and enjoy the game that way. The community is fractious and trends towards the bottom as it is, IMO.
Water will finds its own depth. Go find yours. And to that end, the more players SK can get, the better off the game is, regardless of their age, intelligence level, maturity level, etc..... If the game slowly dies off, or quickly dies off, or moderately dies off, what does any of it matter anyways? There is no community after there is no game.
Its just as likely the ratio of cool people to uncool people that come in from most sites will be similar to that which we had initially, and similar to that which came from steam, which was similar to that which kongregate brought. Regardless of your perception of who is and who isn't cool (its all relative). The more players the better off we all are. Regardless of where OOO catches them.
spiral knights: awesome game!
spiral knights on steam: NICE!
spiral knights on newsground: right.......
Well OOO is trying to get more players into playing sk, not a big deal.
OOO IS A BUISNESS COMPANY NOT A NGO WHICH HELP US SO PLEASE TRY IGNORING THE NEW PEOPLE IF U DON'T LIKE THEM AND IF ANYONE HERE HAS A ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM WHICH IS ON THIS LINK http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/69180#comment-572472 THEN PLLS REPLY
"Well OOO is trying to get more players into playing sk, not a big deal." And they do it in too obvious way. They still didnt solved VERY OLD issues with Spiral Knights being hosted outside official site (lack of access to support portal, forum, wikipedia), yet they start up SK on other sites.
Its like they completly dont care about quality of services they provide, they just want to lure in players and trap them in those unfunctional third party site clients.
Why not act smarter and go sign up through the main website :3
Sadly i signed in from Steam and I can't edit the wiki D:

You must be at least thirteen (13) years of age to use Spiral Knights. You represent, warrant and covenant that you meet this age requirement.
Or anywhere on the internet, for that matter.
Sometimes it's hard not to find it.
*Cough* I'm a new player who just came from Newgrounds and I understand your concerns but... jeez. :/
I did not expect this kind of prejudice reaction from some of your community. Here's some random rant. About random stuff.
Yeah, we have unmature children on the site who can be easily be told apart from the reviews they leave and the content they try to publish. We children (14 at the moment) are everywhere on the Internet these days. Nothing new. And the content they try to publish, well... this is why we have the "Judgement" section of Newgrounds. To effectively "Blam" content not up to par with the standards of what we would like to see. Sometimes the "Blam" part doesn't happen but... at least we try to keep some poor quality fan-generated content out. To be honest all of the stuff on Newgrounds is either fan-generated or paid for by some company in the hopes of attracting people (like this great game called "Spiral Knights".)
Yeah, we have the "bad side" of Newgrounds but so does everything else in the world. "The good comes with the good" or some phrase like that. I won't get into that "M" stuff but Newgrounds is literally ran by the people who use it. Without the fans NG is nothing. So we have to accept some stuff. We don't like it but... don't act like that's all of NG. Hey, we got some people who generate the stuff that is in good quality and of good morals.
Most of the content in NG is honestly good. Ranging from flash games to movies to audio it's a place for people to get their stuff to get publicized, published, and to get a start on the Internet and hopefully from there, the real world. Nothing is wrong with that. Hey, even that "M" stuff starts somewhere. Though, that's of bad morals.
Look on the bright side. More money = More time this game gets to stick around. And you may get some more good people that you want for your guilds (I have a sort of idea of what they are), etc. Though whether the good outweighs the bad... meh.
And rant done. My freakin fingers hurt.
Used to go on newgrounds a lot many many years ago! Good site, has its fair share of wacky/weird stuff but I remember some awesome classics/ even inspirational things from that site.
mmm the days before youtube.

"I did not expect this kind of prejudice reaction from some of your community."
Yeah, sorry about that. Personally, it's because I'm thinking about the hordes of [people we don't want, I'm tired of the same adjectives] that SK will be opening up to as a result. 'Course, I know NG isn't all bad people, but I suppose my worry overtook consideration for the people it didn't apply to.
Sorry :/
Ohgod ....some of them are already integrating into our society and defending their right to be there!
All joking aside, I'm sure that at least one half decent human being will find her way into our midst through this endeavor. Props to OOO.
Kenmoor, are you playing from newgrounds account?
If so, have you gained access to forums/ wikipedia/ support portal with your newgrounds-spiral knights account or you had to create separate forum/support portal/wikipedia account?
Well... someone in the "Reviews" said that you could play SP with a Steam account which I had... so I downloaded SP with my Steam account. :/ So I can't help you there, sorry.
However, I did test SP with Newgrounds and all it did was tell me the standard "Downloading" & "Validating" stuff. Another smaller window popped up and it contained the game. Though, I think it was designed to be a trial of sort as it stopped right after the beginning/before getting into the rescue camp. Well, it stopped loading at 98%. I have no idea if it was me, NG, or if it was supposed to do that but... it stopped working. How about that? So I went to Steam and it worked fine.
What might be interesting to you guys is that so far SP has received mixed reviews ranging from "Oh no, another random sponsored game from some money grubbing company. NG NEEDS to stop with this." to "One of my favorite games, been playing this for years. I am shocked to see it appear on newgrounds. I hope it becomes popular here." to "I have this on a Steam account. It is a HUGE and amazing game. Never once would I have thought it would end up on Newgrounds. For the feat of putting an awesome free to play mmo on Newgrounds alone, 5/5. What's next? Team Fortress 2?" to "In general this is an okay game. Buggy, but okay. The game though isn't whats on newgrounds as a flash game what is is an ad for this game. That, in it's essentials, is all you get on NG and thats what i'm critiquing, a massive ad thrown on newgrounds as a submission. It doesn't get off easy for whatever said ad is about, thats not how this works." to "Even though the game is pretty good and I played it before on Steam, I don't think Newgrounds is the place for this. Well maybe in the Featured Web Games section on the frontpage, where the other non-newgrounds game ads go, but not on NG itself."
So... yeah, you guys aren't alone in this. NG people are mad too for OOO (that's the company right?) sponsoring the game on our site. Like someone said it used to be all flash/the only thing that many fans could work with but then money/cost issues popped up and we had to get some revenue from somewhere... so ads and sponsored games were the answer.
ignore asukalan, all that person does is post hateful and petty messages about OOO in every thread. In their entire year plus here, they haven't made a single post that isn't cry-babying about OOO. 100% negative, not a single constructive, insightful post worth taking the time to read.
OOO, as you'll come to realize if you stick with SK, definitely is worthy of animosity a lot of times, given how they conduct themselves and treat the player-base. At other times they are to be commended. Come in with your eyes open to this fact. Lots of great stuff going on in Spiral Knights, just don't expect top-notch customer service to be one of them. --hopefully you won't have any problems, and won't have to try and use the "support" portal.
But either way, drawbacks aside, Spiral Knights is an addicting and an amazing game. The negatives don't outweigh the positives, at least not until you are dead bored of the game (they don't produce new PLAYABLE content in a timely enough manner, at least not once you've played 100s of hours of what they already do have). And even then, it still has high enough replay value to come back and dabble on the regular, or is worth checking in from time to time to see when new playable content IS going to be released.

Actually, most people kinda like him here. Asuka has been posting for about as long as me, and that's maybe a few months after SK's official launch. He may have been here before that, idk.
In any case, Asuka's been a rager here ever since. Hard to explain, but it's kinda funny, seeing him come over somewhere to rage. Ask almost anyone.
His rages are funny, and interesting.
He's also cool ingame.
I find it nice that OOO wants to spread SK through other sites (I do dislike the increase of beggars we'll have, but I'll just ignore them like I've been ignoring the beggars we already had :P).
Though, I just thought about something: SK has two servers, one in the US and one in Europe, right? (I'm not counting the Asian servers because those need different a different account). And if the servers we have at the moment are somewhat laggy, won't the sudden influx of Newgrounds players make them even laggier? Does that mean we can maybe expect more or better servers soon-ish?
On a random note, I guess that might be why I've been lagging more than normal these last few days :s
Those aren't really two servers, the game is hosted on Amazon EC2. If you want to know what that means, read this wiki page.
Oh ok. I'm not sure I understand it very well though. It's late where I live and Wikipedia usually has too many specific things that confuse me unless I read them when wide awake.
That said, I couldn't figure out if that means that the game lags more or less depending on how many players are online at a given moment ^^'
re:UVs post:
-just don't expect top-notch customer service to be one of them.
I'd just like to clarify/specify on this point, if I may. Some games have awful customer service on all fronts, and leave you generally unimpressed/annoyed by the staff. SK doesn't have that issue on quite as wide a scale. Smaller and/or more personal issues and most common ticket requests get solved to a more than satisfactory degree so that people are generally happy with the service. Every time I've had to send in a ticket about something that went wrong in game, or request a GMs assistance, I've got what I needed without hassle and often in a reasonable timeframe.
What UV is meaning (correct me if I'm wrong, btw) is that for larger debates and issues in the game (such as weapon/armour changes or content releases and/or things that affect the game/community as a whole) we tend to get very mixed messages from the staff and are often left in the cold waiting for answers or feeling somewhat betrayed by the false impressions we may have been given.
I feel there is a distinction between the two.
re:Psycho's post:
-In any case, Asuka's been a rager here ever since. Hard to explain, but it's kinda funny, seeing him come over somewhere to rage. Ask almost anyone.
You get different kinds and degrees of ragers. Some of them, like Asu, just pop up randomly and rage about OOO ruining their life and corrupting the world and that they feel their soul decaying, before returning to log another 30 hours in SK. They're funny, and they feel right as part of teh community (we need both sides of opinion for form a full community) which is heavily aided by the fact that they just rage at the world and invisible entities, without ever really offending any one forummer.
Then you get ragers that make a point to troll and flame, with their QQing directed more at forummers and in a far less humorous way; much more aggravating and offensive. They're the kind of ragers that people get annoyed by and are happy to see gone. Asu is the former kind, that people expect to see in threads like this and have a giggle with.
/class dismissed~
"They're the kind of ragers that people get annoyed by and are happy to see gone."
Yeah, one such not actually gone yet. A pity, that.

Your segue was terrible. I mean, you didn't even try. Step it up.
Mother of god.....
