So I have started to get back into SK again after a long time, decided that I was going to be a paying member of the community this time, been playing for about 2 weeks now and spent £10 on energy, is this to much to soon?
I know £10 is not a lot, but idk, I just feel like I am moving up the tiers to fast.

Also, first forum post woo

Depends

Depends on how much your willing to spend, or how quickly you want to become 5*. I personally would never waste a cent on this game.

Doesn't Matter

You can keep the energy anyways. Its CE! You can keep your $10 worth of energy for 6 months and it will still be there :3
There's never too much, but seriously, don't buy too much either, if you are serious about this game, you might consider paying.

Balance affordable with supporting the developers

My bottom line is to keep it affordable, and still reward the developers for their ongoing work to keep this game alive and fresh. Debate rage about whether or not Three Rings releases enough content, and how they seem to release content to increase sales. We must never forget they are a company, and companies are in business to make money. So for Sega/Three Rings, it is a balancing act as well. They want players to be happy, and they know they cannot charge a fortune and still keep their base. So they have to find creative ways to get paid. No money, no game.

If you love this game, then every once in a while buy some energy or costume armor or whatever. Be careful, because you can end up spending much more on a game like this in small purchases, than you would on a big game in one single cost. The difference is this game is being actively developed, so you actually can think of it like buying a series of smaller games. When Three Rings releases a new set of missions, or does something fun like the Dark Harvest Festival, that is like a new game. Games like this are putting pressure on the big games to develop more playable content, and that is good for all of us.

Great attitude there, really is. Do you also feel like you're wasting money when you buy DVDs or console games?

Interesting way to look at it. Typically people who're concerned about their spending worry more about whether or not they're spending too much, but from the sounds of it, you're more concerned about whether or not you're rushing the game?
If that's the case, then £10 isn't a bad amount at all. It'll give you enough CE to help skip some of the grinding and let you get at least one set upgraded so you can use it and advance at a smooth speed and get into the more exciting sections of the game, but you'll soon find yourself gagging for more CE for further upgrades, various other sets etc, so you won't be rushing through the game at a speed that I would consider bad or wasteful and won't be burning through the content too fast due to that amount of CE purchased.

As for your title question, I'd say that a new player spending "too much" would be enough to get them a full 5* set of weapons and armour before they've legitimately finished T1/2. You want to take some time to play the easier sections of the game, get some experience and learn the game and its mechanics a bit. Rushing to T3 with high end gear will likely only get you killed and frustrated as you feel that your top notch gear isn't keeping you alive, since T3 is more about skill/practice/experience than your actual armour.
As above though, £10 won't nearly bring you to this stage, so I reckon you'll be just fine :)

My recommendation on the best

My recommendation on the best way to play SK is, get up around 3* gear (should be fairly easy F2P, this will take at most two or three weeks). If you really enjoy it, wait for a good energy promo and plunk down $10-20. It's no more than you would pay for a decent game elsewhere, and it will allow you to get to T3 (where most of the fun is at) with a minimum of grinding and pain. You do need to spend your energy wisely though, as crafting a single 5* piece will eat up at least 1000CE. But once you have a full 5* set almost all of SK is at your fingertips, with a little skill, but you'll get better as time goes on. That's actually another argument for not straight up purchasing 5* gear- in Tier 3, armor is used primarily for its offensive bonuses, and the defense will only cover you for a few missteps. If you work your way up (with a little assist), you will gain the skills to go with your gear.
Definitely try to find a good guild- one with members that are mature and helpful. The best way is to try and chat up established players in Clockworks or runs; ask them questions about gear, etc. If they give you the silent treatment or call you a noob, then you don't want to be in their guild anyway (particularly the latter). Better yet, if one of them gives you pointers, try to follow them, or ask for clarification if unclear. These helpful players are your ticket to a good guild and friends, or at the least, good info on how to play.

Thanks for the advice guys!

So in response to everyone's replies

@Falclion - sorry to hear that you wont be spending any money on this but its understandable, it is advertised as free2play, and it is I guess, long as you dont mind grinding forever lol

@Sdkfzafk - about not buying to much, I assume you are talking about the energy? like I said I am thinking of the money spent so far as a subscription, I think £10 a month is gonna be my limit for now, Not counting add-ons

@Gulliverbfg - this is a great way of thinking about it! while its true after a few months I could have bought a whole game for £50-£60 or whatever, I find most games these days just don't hold my attention for the amount of money spent, feel like I just cheated my self out of money

@Forum-Brady - thanks for you views on others peoples posts, its nice to get another point of view on things, about moving through the tires to fast, I just sort of felt at the time my equipment lvl was higher than my personal skill lvl, i.e I was in 3* gear but still playing like a total noob (rushing in, no shield, ect), and about getting 5* gear first thing, If someone did that I would feel sorry for them, they will never know the satisfaction of heating/upgrading a set all the way to 5*

@Mohandar - already sort covered the gear lvl vs player skill thing... but I agree with what you are saying, about asking for help, I have found most of SK community in game to quite nice, there are a few... annoying things (I only need 5k more crowns to craft an item! can someone just give it to me?!?) a regular sight in around the Auction house, also some of the more experienced players seems to have the mentality of 'this players has a lower star lvl gear than me! he must suck at this game!' forgetting of course when they started they had to move up through the gear levels to get where they are now, but you get players like that in every game so its easy to ignore, and about the guild, I was lucky I guess and got invited to a nice active guild with my first invite, they have been very helpful!

thanks again for all the replys guys, I wish you luck down in the clockworks!
