Hey SP forums, what's up?
So I've been wondering whether I should get the Deadly Virulisk set or the Dragon Scale set. Both looks pretty sweet for the armor set. But I'm just worried that if I used the Dragon Scale set, it doesn't defends knights from normal damage, only piercing and elemental. On the other hand, the Deadly Virulisk set protects from poison, normal, and piercing, but not elemental. It seems like the Dragon Scale set is not so popular. I also saw GameplayFlicks/Chawkthree's demo on the Dragon Scale Shield, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3O0VCYoDp4&feature=plcp , and he said that it's not a good choice for a shield except for "Compound 42". They're the same kind of armor (mixed defense).
Maybe I should put the Deadly Virulisk Set for the armor and the Dragon Scale Set for the costume armor? I'm aiming for being am swordsmen, but I see a lot of people using the "Wolver Set" for it, but since it's my option, I don't really want it. :P
So what shall it be, Deadly Virulisk Set, or the Dragon Scale Set? But if you have more options, please let me know. :D
C42 was seemingly designed with the Dragonscale set in mind, and as such, that set and the shield both perform excellently there. However, they're sub-par virtually everywhere else in the game. Lack of normal defence is absolutely crippling, as almost everything in the game deals some degree of normal damage.
Deadly Viru is a solid set for jelly levels or even beasts, and works nicely enough in C42 due to the slime bonus, poison resistance and the fact that most f the damage you take in there is likely to be piercing. I have a Deadly Viru and quite enjoy using it, but it is still a fairly niche set, as all family sets are.
It really comes down to your reason why you want it. If you're a swordy, then Skolver is often considered better, giveing you the same defences, sword damage bonuses against all enemies (although only bonsues for swords, whereas DV increases the damage of all your weapons, but only against slimes) and resistance to a more dangerous status.
Gunners also have justifier which increases their ASI and permits piercing defence.
Bombers have no piercing armour to speak of.
If you want a set specifically for farming JK or something, then there's few better options than DV, imo, as it allows an easy hybrid build with good defences to the area but again, it's fairly niche and you may find yourself not using it as often as you'd like outside of those areas.
Since you say you're aiming to be a swordsman, you'll probably find yourself after Skolver in the end, but personal preferences and the degree of your hipster-ism are factors, too.
