In essence, Hardcore Spiral Knights changes the client of your game so that you see differently than you do in Vanilla Spiral Knights. Using the ui for Hardcore Spiral Knights...
• Removes the minimap and danger indicator from your HUD.
• Removes the Vials dock from your HUD.
• Removes the Teammates list from your HUD.
• Removes the health bar and heat collector at the bottom of your HUD.
• Removes the energy menu in the bottom right corner of your HUD.
• All of the buttons across the top of your screen have gone invisible. In Haven, if you mouse over them, they will become visible so you can see them, but when not pointing at them, they disappear.
• In the NO CURSOR download, your in-game cursor will be invisible (the pointer [as when you hover over the side of this text], the text pointer [as when you mouse over the title], and the finger [as when you mouse over the Spiral Knights button at the top of the screen] are all still present)
.
If interact-able, each part of your HUD will still be click-able and usable. You just won't be able to see it.
This allows for some interesting gameplay!
• You must navigate the Clockworks without a minimap. You'll be surprised how many times you'll glance up to see where you're headed and be rejected by a missing minimap.
• You must do battle with no health bar. In no circumstances are you able to see your health. How will this affect your use of Vials and battle strategy? Speaking of which...
• You have to manage your Vials carefully. You will have to take note of which ones are in which slot (and how many, if you care about waste). Otherwise, how will you know which one is the Fire Vial and which one is the Remedy Capsule? Moreover, if you want to empty a slot to make room for a more preferred Vial, how will you know which one to empty?
• You have to manage your Mist. Playing Hardcore Spiral Knights reaches all the way from your reviving in the Clockworks to your actions in Haven. By clicking on where the Mist menu usually is, the game will open the Energy Depot for you to see your CE and crowns. However, there is no way to see your Mist, ever! Makes for some interesting gameplay once again.
• In NO CURSOR mode, you have to struggle with which way you're really aiming. Especially if you play full screen where you're not at risk of clicking outside the window, this is definitely recommended even if only for the experience. This mode becomes even more challenging when you go gunner and turn auto-aim off...
And if you're a movie maker, you definitely might want to check into this as well. The lack of HUD and buttons makes for a nice, crisp video image - great for scenery or battle montages, let's plays, trailers, events, or instructional videos (in some cases)!
However you decide to use this build, I hope that you enjoy it and have fun with it. I definitely recommend either build, even if only for the experience. Installation instructions and features list are both included in the download. This is my first "mod" for Spiral Knights, but it will not be my last! Throw me some feedback in the comments, either here or on my Youtube video, to let me know what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong, or what you'd like to see me mod next!
