First, you may find my detailed sword guide helpful. There is a "Mixing Weapon Types" section that may help with your weapons.

Generally speaking, people favor armor (and trinkets) with offensive bonuses. One idea is to mix sworder armor (Vog Cub, Skolver, etc.) with gunner armor (Shadowsun, etc.). Another idea is Chaos Cloak/Cowl. Many pure gunners use Swiftstrike Buckler, because they don't need a highly defensive shield. But if you are doing some melee fighting, then you probably want a decent defensive shield — maybe Barbarous Thorn Shield. The "Armor, Shield, and Trinkets" section of my sword guide talks about that stuff.

There are three kinds of offensive bonuses — damage, ASI, and CTR — explained at the wiki page "Abilities". Damage bonuses are always useful. Whether you go for CTR or ASI also depends somewhat on which weapons you're using. For example, people favor CTR on Caliburs, Brandishes, and Autoguns, but ASI on Warmaster Rocket Hammer and Final Flourish. We could give you more detailed advice if we knew specifically which weapons you were using, in your typical loadout.

double elemental; armor ideas

Both of your weapons are elemental. Consequently, you're strong against undead and constructs, but only okay against fiends and slimes, and downright bad against gremlins and beasts. Read the wiki page "Damage" (or the first section of my sword guide) to learn about carrying two different non-normal damage types — for example, a piercing sword and an elemental gun. Then you can be strong against 4/6 of monsters, okay against the other 2/6, and never bad against anything.

Meanwhile, both Brandishes and alchemers have very powerful charge attacks. So you may prefer CTR over ASI. Unfortunately, not much armor gives CTR. Here are some plans for you:
* Mix Vog Cub and Shadowsun: You get sword ASI+2 and gun damage+2. The defense is quite good.
* Mix Skolver and Shadowsun: Sword damage+2 and gun damage+2. The offense is better on this set, but the defense is slightly less useful.
* Chaos Cloak and Cowl: damage+2 and CTR+2 on both swords and guns. This is awesome offense, especially for Brandishes and alchemers. But the defense is really bad.
* Divine Veil with Skolver Coat: Sword damage+2, fiend+2. The status defense is excellent, and all four damage types are covered. This is the classic general-purpose set.
* Perfect Mask of Seerus and Skolver Coat: Sword damage+2, gun ASI+1, gun CTR+2. Good defense, except for the lack of shadow. PMoS requires Operation Crimson Hammer though.
Also, you'll eventually have trinkets and UVs, to help fill out your sword and gun bonuses.

you're welcome

You're welcome. By the way, in the future you can ask equipment questions like this in the Arsenal forum. Enjoy. :)

You're like me.

I'm basically a swordsman but I carry a gun too. I'm using the Shockburst Brandish and Pepperbox right now.

Anyways, you should get something like Snarbolax Cap, Vog Cub Coat/Skolver Coat. I personally prefer the Vog Cub because it gives you faster melee speed. For shield the Barbarous Thorn Shield is really good. Weapons are usually your choice but Voltedge and some kinda of gun works really well.

two issues with that advice

you should get something like Snarbolax Cap

Snarbolax Cap can be crafted only in the Shadow Lairs. It's not a good choice for your first 5-star armor.

Weapons are usually your choice but Voltedge and some kinda of gun works really well.

Voltedge works with many guns. But Voltedge with an elemental gun doesn't work well, because then you have two elemental weapons. So you're strong against constructs and undead, but just okay against fiends and slimes, and downright bad against gremlins and beasts. Instead, try carrying two non-normal damage types. Then you can be strong against 4/6 of monsters, okay against the other 2/6, and never bad against anything.
