Howdy all, I'm Isaak

I've been playing Spiral Knights since the Steam addition and for the most part I'm happy with my experiences with it, but after a long time there is one thing I would love to see as an upgrade to the arsenal window that I think a lot of players would like. I can see no downsides to it!

(I have tried searching the forums already for anything similar, I didn't get very far. :S )

I bring you. . . custom arsenal folders!

Overall my idea is like this:
- Players can add in custom folders into the arsenal pane where ever they wish.
- Adding folders could be a new button or a right-click function, or whatever.
- Folders can be added as main folders like the default folders.
- Folders can be added as sub folders to other default or custom folders.
- Custom folders can be renamed to whatever the player likes.
- (Players can select an icon for custom folders?)
- ONLY custom folders can be deleted.
- Custom folders can also have custom positions, at the beginning, end, or in the middle of the list.
- Items in custom folders are NOT copies or links to an item, the item actually moves.

But then I also think there should be a few rules for consistency purposes:
- Default folders act as they do now, and only contain items they are supposed to contain. (shields in shields folder)
- Custom folders can contain any item a player wishes as long as the custom folder is NOT inside a default folder.
- Custom folders inside a default folder follow the rules of the default folder. (gun in custom folder, inside default gun folder)

Using custom folders, players can get even more organized than they are now!
- You can keep your favorite items in a custom folder, and items you plan on selling in another custom folder.
- Inside a default folder you can have sub folders for fully leveled weapons, or different star quality items.
- Got a default folder getting really long with items you wanna keep, stuff the items you don't wanna see into a sub folder.
- Do whatever you like with them! Even ignore them! Cause you don't have to use them if you don't wanna!

Finally, yes, I am quite aware that this could be an open door for a bug that allows the duping of items. But it is the responsibility of OOO to make sure that something like that doesn't get through or is squashed quickly. I don't see this as a reason to reject more user-friendly features.

tl;dr
I pity da fool who don't like custom folders!

Although the idea itself seems well, considered, I don't really see the point in this.

I mean, why would you need to arrange things into specific folders? If you're arranging in terms of attributes, you've probably already learned the basic specialties of each armour and don't really need an arrangement anyway.

For finding gear you'd use to battle a specific stage or whatever, that's what Loadouts are for. Make em, name 'em, use 'em.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds cool. I just don't see the need for it really. If you were looking for something, your search bar would more than suffice. If not, the category system should assist.

The point is to organize.

Well the point is to organize your arsenal and help make the entire list shorter when opening and closing categories.

Loadouts are great and all, but even if you use them a lot, they don't actually help organize the arsenal itself.
Loadouts also don't help with items like usables, materials, or armors and weapons you wanna sell.
They also don't help if the loadout you want hasn't been made yet, or if you wanna change one that you have currently.
Custom folders and loadouts can potentially help each other.

You are right, adding something like this wouldn't be necessary, but I bet a lot would find it helpful.
I, for example, do a lot of item collecting, and I would love it if I could add some folders into my costume category.
It would be helpful to me if I could make folders for my bombheads, hallow and rose-regalia collections.

I would have at least a custom folder for all the crap I don't use.

Loadouts

This sounds completely like loadouts.

Folders =/= Loadouts

Loadouts are for an equip-able 'set' of items, 5 items for a 'standard' knight and up to 11 for a fully decked-out knight.
What if you wanna organize more than 11 of same-type items? Loadouts can't help you very efficiently, and not inside the arsenal pane.
Even if you use loadouts religiously, eventually you are gonna have to go into the arsenal pane for something.

An even better idea would be to allow custom folders to be created on the loadout menu.

The lack of organization in that menu drives me crazy sometimes.

Add it for both!

We can easily have custom folders in both menus, and they would be great for allowing players to organize how they choose.

Has no game-play impact, and are completely optional for each individual to use or not use as they please. They can even supplement current features like the search bar and loadout. I really no reason to NOT have folders, they only add and take nothing away.

It's been five months since

It's been five months since this suggestion was up front.
Since then we've had the massive UI update, reactions were mixed.
And there have been a couple other suggestions created along the same lines as this one.

So I'm giving this a bump, I'd like to know if anyone else is interested in something like this.
It's completely optional and has no downsides that I can see.
I'd like to be able to have custom folders inside the Arsenal list.

Still am interested. I'll add it to my collaboration thread.
