I could not find a thread for this, so I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me a solution to getting around the editing permission error due to an IP address block. According to the page that comes up when I attempt to edit any page:
"Your IP address has been automatically blocked because it was used by another user, who was blocked by Atalanta. The reason given is this:
Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Hkerthlave".
The reason given for Hkerthlave's block is: "Removing content from pages: Vandalism, using Wiki as an ad site.""
The IP address that I am using is one of a University, so there are quite a few people using the exact same IP. I am aware that this block is only for 24 hours, most likely because it was the first offense from my IP address. My concern, however, is that if this happens multiple times in the future, I will be forever blocked from editing on this IP address due to someone else's vandalism. Also, since I am prohibited from editing the wiki in any sense, I am also unable to use talk/discussion pages to tell administrators about this problem while the block is in effect. Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.
I have also encountered this today, for the first time, when trying to edit from home (a private residence). I think that the wiki software is misconfigured/buggy/flipping out.
Edit: My IP address, as reported by the wiki that won't let me edit, does not match my IP address, as reported to me by my own computer. Both of them are private IP addresses (10.xxx.xxx.xxx block and 192.168.xxx.xxx block, respectively), which are "turned into" real IP addresses using Network Address Translation. I wonder if this is related to the problem. But NAT is really common, and I've been editing the wiki using it for years, so maybe it's a red herring. (Obviously my knowledge of this stuff is very shallow.)
