I think it would be cool to have races of heros!!
The races would be...
Knights
Mechaknights
Strangers
and
Gremlins.
They would all have different weapons and armor.

Why?
Please just read threads based on play able gremlins.
First. Lack of explantion. For soemthing that is technically a new game from spiral knights(This sounds more like cradle wars).
Next. Lack of people in favour. not everyone would like the characters, due to it being a minority.
Third. How will this work with the basic gameplay whe have? Where would we start? How does this tier in ranking? Would we have to wait even longer for more stuff?
Also, how are these guys heroes?
I mean, they arre mostly mobs and then with Emberlight? Why would we add something like playable gremlins and constructs when we don't need them. The gameplay is most focused on the knight's struggles.

The story focuses on the Spiral Order as the playable group. The closest to our cause are Emberlights who refuse to fight.
Maybe if there were more to the world of Cradle, like species living outside Haven in their own little cities or tribes, it would at least be plausible to play as them if they do something interesting; after creating a lot of new content for this new race or it would be pointless to have different races other than for cosmetics. Do they fight stuff? What stuff? Not other players. Do they have any interaction with us knights? What do they do out there? What story do they have to make us care about them?

Get a Mecuraidemo helm, and the spiral cullet(?) one of the starter armours/ break lines.
Gremlin, seerus+the Shadow def gunner armour.
Stranger hat, and magic set.

@Lezly: Considering I don't smoke or drink, I might take offense to that comment, if I wasn't fairly certain it was sarcastic.
The expletive substitutes I used in that post are from World of Warcraft, FYI.
Also, Mecha Knights are 100% Mechanical. Spiral Knights (If they are cyborgs) are at least partially organic. You can't be a "race" if you're a drone. You're just...a drone. In order to be a race you have to be able to reproduce, as that is one of the requirements for biologically being alive. Mecha Knights can't.

Let's go over this, shall we?
Mecha Knights: Optimizing weapons and armor is fun, right? One of the greatest parts of this game. Well, congrats! You get to play as a Mecha Knight, but then you realize a single sword is welded to your hand. And what's this? You don't have controls? A gremlin with a remote-control does? Oh too bad.
Strangers: You get to sell items in Haven and talk to passing knights about snipes! Fun!
Gremlins: You just crafted a Faust. Oh gosh! You just crafted a Faust! Get it away! Now let us try to put them in the gameplay correctly. Reach the core, right? Wrong! Uh... So what to we do? /shrug

What is the point of playing as Gremlins, Mechas or Strangers ? Nothing.
What weapons are they going to use ? Same as us ? Then no.
Gremlins and Mechas "may" be understandable of how are we going to attack as them, but can you enlighten me how would Strangers do that ? You can't ? Then no.
Unless a "Completely new race is introduced" I don't think it is possible to play with other creatures, and I actually see no point in that. This is Spiral Knights not Dota or League of Legends.
