Following this update, it has been discovered that the final swing on all swords can no longer be shield-cancelled; the player must wait until the final attack animation ends (or some underlying cooldown.) This does not include charge-attack combos. Cancelling any other swing functions as we are used to.

Intentional or not? Perhaps it may also hint towards or be a step of the 'combat changes' we were notified about early this year.

Do you mean you can no longer swing-cancel-swing-cancel-swing-cancel (like with flourshes), Or do you mean you can no longer swing-swing-swing-cancel. If it's the former, I'd say yay, sword de-buff! I'm pretty sure the latter has always been that way.

It is the latter, and has not

It is the latter, and has not functioned as such until now. It is more noticeable with series such as the rapiers and 2-swing swords, but a new delay does exist with all swords now.

That sucks. I hope it is a bug.

You mean if you have a Flourish/Calibur/Brandish/Spur, do all three basic swings in the combo, after the third swing hits you have a short delay before you can shield? Or if you use a Troika/Sealed and do both swings after the second it has a short delay before being able to shield?

Always been that way.

You crazy kids and not using the full combos on swords. Back in my day when a nickel was worth a dime that final swing was used for the extra damage over its preceding swings, and it can move you around like if you use the foils/rapiers against mobile enemies to lunge instead of spamming the first swing like little diaper eating babies.

It's more difficult to

It's more difficult to shield-cancel with the hammers after the hammer dash, but it is still possible.

Again, it is a new delay over the (negligible) one that has existed. There is an effective delay now, requiring you to wait for the full animation. I wouldn't have bothered making a thread over this anomaly if I never used the combo finishers.

On a side note, the lunge aspect was a key feature I noted when the Flourishes were released, and I discussed the excellent vs. fiend/beast usability of it back then.

Is this change solely for 3

Is this change solely for 3 hit swords or ALL swords including heavy swords? IMO the heavy swords do not need such a tweak, as all along their 2nd hit, whether shield cancelled or not, leaves you vulnerable for an already very long amount of time(which was why I was told to only use the first strike on my sealed swords).

Intentional

Definitely intentional, but not that bad. I use the Leviathan Blade for most stuff in T3, and generally I kite and charge. I only use the 3rd strike if I have done the math in my head, or if I can afford to just hack and slash (i.e. 1 enemy left). I don't think I'll be able to hack and slash certain enemies as easily, however. I've only tried this so far with turrets, Jellies, and Wolvers. It's not any harder to kill them.

What?

I'm sorry to say this but whether you mean swing swing swing cancel or swing cancel swing cancel swing cancel or combo-cancel. Every single way is the way it's always been. I play LD a lot and I have noticed no change in anything you have said. I went to CW(Clockworks) and nothing. Training hall, same results.

Perhaps explain your bug a little more?

EDIT: I have tried Brandish, GF, Flourish, Hammer, DVS and Lionheart(lol). No change whatsoever.

I don't mind this if it

I don't mind this if it actually has changed. More discouraging for new players to just mash their attack key instead of actually thinking.
Makes the game a tad more difficult, so it's a welcome change.

Idk, just seems like it'll

Idk, just seems like it'll encourage players even more to just shield-cancel the early attacks. Used to be that folk would unleash full combos, but as time's passed people are starting to edge towards just using the first 1/2 swings with cancelling for "faster/safer" effect and ignoring the final swing altogether. Punishing the final swings cancel ability but not the first just seems to encourage that even further, which is pretty counter-intuitive imo. Would have rathered they just remove shield-cancelling altogether, than only at the end when nobody bothers usin' it anymore anyways...

(note: I've not tried this out myself, not logged on yet, so am just commenting on the OPs posts, on the assumption that he's right. If not then....well /irrelevant post)

wat.

Can't speak for 3 hit swords, but the heavy swords (Troika/Sealed Sword lines) were never able to cancel their 2nd slash.

Possible Clarification

When I went down to fight Jellies with my Leviathan Blade, I noticed that the final (3rd) swing could not be shield-canceled at all, but the cooldown until I could walk again was not significantly higher. It therefore is of concern if you need to bump off quick enemies, but if you can just kite around, there will be very little change. It used to be that the final swing could be interrupted or have negligible cooldown with a shield, and now that is not the case. I've been using this Levi for months, and I know it is behaving slightly differently today than it did before.
