I'm sick AND TIRED of people preferring other guilds over mine. I don't want to bias, but if I have to in order to get more members, I WILL. I'm furious. I only have FIFTEEN members - none of them actually care about the guild. Everyone else? Tons more. And with people who care. The difference? They say they're "much better" than Star Knights. SERIOUSLY? THAT IS PURE JUNK!! I doubt my guild will grow. And I've set up my niche, even! They claim they have stuff that's much better than mine.

Example:

My guild:
Snarby
Royal Jelly
Lord Vanaduke

Rival guild:
Snarby
Roarmulus Twins
Royal Jelly
Lord Vanaduke
Shadow Lairs
Lockdown
Blast Network

So I'm angry at this. People choose over my guild! Better yet, WHY? Do they have a flashy name? Do they have a guy like Njthug in their guild? Are they just really rich and cool?

didn't read;don't care: Every other guild is drawing members but me.

Also, a model of how the guild will grow, according to myself.

2012: 15 members
2013: 15 members
2014: 16 members
2015: 17 members
2016: 17 members
2017: 17 members
2018: 18 members
2019: 19 members
2020: At this point, I disband the guild and join a better one due to the lack of people joining.

Rival guild:

2012: 15 members
2013: 38 members
2014: 58 members
2015: 120 members
2016: 145 members
2017: 183 members
2018: 257 members
2019: Member limit reached
2020: The rival guild owner is heavily satisfied with the number of guild members.

reread your post

Therein shall you find the wisdom you search for.

On mobile, so I'll keep it short. Your behavior is an issue. A guild leader is just that: a leader. You are acting like a petulant child. Show maturity and restraint, create a good name for your guild, and it should prosper.

I caught your reference to our Great And Exalted Lord Of Jellies Njthug The Magnificently Glorious above. Do you hate Ecto of Silence or something?

As a former GM of a guild filled to the brim with active members... it was an absolute headache to maintain. Trust me, the best guilds are a small coalition of 20-30-ish good friends who know and trust each other.

That being said, the best guilds (IMO) focus more on the players than the guild. Talk to your guildmates, be friendly with them, and generally be helpful to them. That creates guild loyalty. You'd be surprised how far simply saying "Hey Phantomhamachi!" when someone logs on can go towards building loyalty.

When recruiting, don't just randomly send out invites to people meandering around Haven, for that tends to be ignored or get's you a ton of noobs/idiots. Get a few random runs going, start talking to the guys who join, and then (if you find them to be nice people), ask if they would like to join your guild. Be mature, be polite, don't pressure them, and, above all else, don't bribe them.

If someone sticks up their nose at your guild simply because it isn't on par with something like The Jempire, then let them pout off in their arrogance - those aren't the best people to have in a guild in the first place.

You can't expect to magnetically attract members. If you're going to be a leader, you will have to know how to take things slow. Recruit members you know are going to stay, and work with it from there. Guild growth won't be instant, but if you work at it it shouldn't matter.

You had lost it in the game,

You had lost it in the game, and now you've lost it in the forums. Just... STOP. Go back to your physician and request a refill.

I'm not telling you to leave

I'm not telling you to leave the forums, I'm telling you to stifle it until you've had a chance to calm down.

Those older guilds are

Those older guilds are stronger, richer, faster, more organized than you might think. They took 2 years, some even went from beta. If you are a new guild, you can't expect to quickly rise to power. Be patient, and learn to organize yourself

Given how you're more focused

Given how you're more focused on quantity of members than the quality of members, I'd have to say there's probably a reason for people to "prefer" other guilds, so to speak. You don't just magically become known because you're a guildmaster - you have to actually DO something with your guild. What can your guild offer that others can't?

You're not doing yourself any favors by complaining publicly about the lack of recognition you're getting. I'll leave it at that.

Yeah your reputation just took a nose dive, which will only hinder your guild

I think the lack of members

I think the lack of members has more to do with how the Guild Master acts than on the rival guilds. You constantly are complaining on the forums and in trade chat. This thread being a prime example. It reflects very badly upon the guild when you do that and drives people away that might otherwise join. Also, the guild masters and officers set the tone of a guild. View it from a potential member's perspective... would you prefer a guild that is viewed as full of complainers (due to how the people in charge of it act) or one that just does what sounds fun?

Honestly, if I were in your shoes I'd calm down and find a focus for your guild other then "lots of members". EoS, since you more or less named us by naming Njthug, focuses on having fun for example. Yes we have a lot of well off members, but most of the members and EoS itself have all been around for quite a while. If your guild is fun, or good at LD (if a LD guild), or whatever your focus is then your members will help bring in more members because they will try to get their friends in also.

Additional probing of subject #8567903-70549

EoS keeps, or attempts to retain their numbers at 69 do they not? I recall quite a few screens where Nj's guildcount is retained at 69. EoS is buy and large the only guild I've seen to ever become truly... revered as a guild not only for their trolling in BN or LD, but simply for their name and deeds. They don't focus on their number of members save to have that wonderful number as their beacon of fun in SK. EoS in it's entirety is filled with exactly what those above said, dedicated, loyal members.

They are what a guild should honestly be, this is why they are so well known. They have a focus, an honest, wonderful focus that we lose sight of all too often, said focus is to have some fun in SK. Not just in SK, actually, with their not-so-recent-mission IRL with the dev team (see also: cake), they have fun with SK.

When you have an actual focus for your guild... not just BEING A GUILD, but a focus for the guild to wave it's banner for. THEN you will get the notoriety you apparently crave so dearly. I am currently in a guild called Rogue Knights. Reason behind this? We are the most ragtag team of knuckleheads you ever saw, even have a member that collects light shards for 10cr a piece and has collected 10k+ of them.( You know him as "the crazy guy going on about cheese" his name's Weegeftw.) We focus on being different, we don't always want the top spot at the LD or BN leaderboards, we don't always wanna do vana (in fact, I was going to work on helping out with some SL runs before deciding to take a break), but we ENJOY what we do. You want to run vana's workshop alone? We'll wish you luck. Wanna use Sun Shards all over the place? We'll fight alongside you and rev you every time you drop.

Anyway, find a purpose to run your guild. Those that align with that purpose will come... it isn't about becoming famous... it's being so good at what you do that fame finds you.

Hmm...

As a previous GM of a guild, I agree with what the others say about guild construction. Have a base. Is your guild going to be PvE or PvP, is it a happy guild, or just a guild full of drama (fyi those with drama won't last long). It's a game, have fun with it! Most guilds begins with a group of friends. Make some rules, guidelines for your members to follow. If you're having trouble talk with your members. Hear what they have to say.

You say that in a couple years you'll get 1 or 2 people to join your guild, well that's negative talk. You're a bright talkative kid, you can make friends easily! So, believe me, if you focus more on your guild and less on the drama you'll grow your guild into a more stronger community and will surely get more than your future"quota".

Honk honk. Make way for the dead bunny.

Hey...

Aren't you the guy who disbanded your own guild (your old one) without consulting your other members because you felt inferior to other guilds such as "Active" and "Unity"?

Yeah...

Too bad you ditched THAT guild...

You have too many problems with guilds. Just join one instead of making one or simply NOT be in a guild at all.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

Uh. Given the way you've been ranting several times on the forums, I wouldn't exactly call that a good advertisement. I have no idea what you mean by 'setting up a niche' for a guild, but most people look for a friendly, social guild that is willing to assist them and chat. Some will also be looking for one with status.

You're really not going to do well as a Guild Master if this is the way you act in-game.

Hey, it's only been like a week or two since you made that thread saying your guild forced you to donate and participate in guild events and never helped you with the Jelly King...

I'm going to assume that somewhere within the creation of that thread and now, you left your guild, started your own guild, and now here you are complaining that your guild isn't big?

Listen, I own my own guild of 61 members, and only about 10 or 12 of them are actually active (I really need to go through them all and remove the inactives). I'm still a bit inexperienced as far as leading a guild goes, but I've noticed something; all of my active members were not players whom I simply "recruited", they were all people that I played with for some time (before they joined), people who asked to join my guild, and players who I had talked with for a decent amount of time.

99.99% of players I've just simply "recruited" from haven usually donate 3,000 CR then leave the following day or go inactive forever. While that was perfectly fine with me when I was recruiting at the release of the Guild Hall update (my guild really needed the CR), now I don't even bother to actively recruit members anymore, because I've learned that the best way to build "loyalty" is to simply help people out and be a good virtual friend.
