Starter armor. The first three sets matched the 3 status armors and initaly went like this;
Pith-Brigande
Stallet-Culet
Tailed-Curiass
but now they've got the cobalt helm, round helm, flak jacket and draped armor. Draped obviously goes with the round helm (look at valkyrie + dragon mail stats, methinks OOO set tht pair up on purpose), but the Cobalt helm dosen't match the flak jacket, and it kinda takes the place of the pith helm with the brigande. Wondering if there's any specific method to any of this, or if OOO just picked pretty stuff.

Also, anyone wondering why the mining cap wasn't worked into the starting armor? I'd like to see more colors of that, but would it go with the culet...

I disagree with this... I thought the purpose of more starting armors/accessories/height mods/eyes was to make individuals more unique. Why lump armors together in sets? They do have very different names from one another.

Hmm

I think Orangeo was trying to figure out the mental association tree of OOO's graphical designers. Beyond the obvious similarities (such as the Salamander and Virulisk sets) and the ones you've found (which are wrong, by the way: from the Emberbreak line, it's obvious that the Tailed Helm goes with the Culet, not the Cuirass), I'd say your best bet is to look at the torsos of the armors and the tops of helms. I guess this is obvious, but I don't think it's too much worth it to unravel the designs of outfits.

They don't 'go' together because they're modified pieces of older armors. The Flak Jacket is a Wolver Coat without the fur, and the Draped Armor is Scale Mail without the scales. Round Helm and Crescent Helm are based on the Angelic and Cobalt helms, respectively.

I agree with Orbwinter. Also,

I agree with Orbwinter. Also, since there isn't a more advanced line of these (ex. Emberbreak-Blazebreak being Culet and Tailed Helm) then there isn't really a pairing off of the new proto helms and armours. At least for now. But adding new lines that only goes to 3* is... not something I think players really want.

"Why lump armors together in sets?"
Well actually, I was going to draw all the starter armor, but I didn't want to draw anything twice.

Yhea, kinda.

"by the way: from the Emberbreak line, it's obvious that the Tailed Helm goes with the Culet, not the Cuirass"
Whoops! I know that though, just a typo. Fixing it ->

"Draped Armor is Scale Mail without the scales. Round Helm is based off the Angelic "
Scale mail and Angelic actualy go together. Look at the stats, you get even amounts of each defense, and medium bonus vs monsters weak to peircing. Plus you get curse and posin ressist, the damage-lowering statuses. I could be wrong, but I think OOO set that up on purpose.

Scale mail and Angelic

Scale mail and Angelic actualy go together.

Nope. They just had remnants of those armor pieces in the files that they weren't using exclusively so they decided to give them to players. The hybrid (draped) armor was being used by Kora, and the round helm was an unused model left over from beta. Spice them up with some preset colours, and bam, easy Rescue Camp stuff.

Scale and angelic fit. I

Scale and angelic fit. I consider it an easter egg of sorts. Now, the starter armor might not be a match, but the 3*-5* armors are.

I don't really think so. Though I use Merc and Dusker in T2 Pvp.
