Spending limit preventing me from benefiting from special offers

Hi there. I recently sent a request to raise or reset my spending limit for this month, since I wanted to take advantage of the special offers that are on until Jan 3rd, and was denied.

This hardly seems fair at all, since I will end up completely missing both the prize box offer and the +15% energy offer because of a stupid spending limit. I actually WANT to buy energy right now, but I'm being blocked off by a barrier that really shouldn't be in my way right now, especially with such offers popping up. If I have to wait, my spending limit will be lifted -after- the offers end, so that doesn't help anything at all.

Sure, maybe I'm just needlessly ranting, but I don't approve of this at all.

If you're a new member, they

If you're a new member, they usually make you wait a month or two in order to establish a reason to justify raising the limit. They typically do it to make sure you're fully aware of how much you're actually spending on the game, since the game -was- initially geared towards an audience that didn't have their own credit cards or bank accounts.

Either way, the only thing I can say is suck it up, cupcake - we've all been there at some point. It took me a while to get my spending limit raised as well, but at the end of the day I got over it and just decided to ask for my limits to be raised when sales weren't going on so that, if for some reason, I decided to splurge excessively on a promo later on, I had nothing to worry about.

There's the thing though. I'm not THAT new, I've been around for a few months now. That, and it's christmas, a time when people typically spend a lot. It's a perfectly valid reason, especially at a time with so many offers going on. I've been spending fairly regularly, and reached the limit a number of times before now, so to me, the "establishing a reason to justify raising the limit" doesn't really make much sense to me at present.

Quoting a previous response to this

"Greetings,

I am writing in response to your request that the spending limit on your Spiral Knights account be raised ahead of schedule.

I realize that it's a nuisance when you are keen to make a purchase, but we have a policy of monitoring credit card and PayPal usage for accounts to provide protection from unexpected charges and fraudulent use. Generally, we prefer to collect several weeks of purchase history data for an account before allowing more substantial limit increases. This data allows us to more easily verify valid usage of the purchase methods used.

You raised the limit fairly recently and we would like to monitor the spending at that level for longer before we can consider further raising of the purchase limit.

We do apologize for this inconvenience, but it is in place as mentioned to protect our players and payment owners."

I can see the reason for this, but it is incredibly frustrating in the case of 2 special offers (having 2 offers at the same time as pretty rare).
Thing is, I already have a lot of money in my Steam Wallet (since I play through steam and so all my purchases go through the steam wallet) just waiting to be spent on SK. I can't spend a penny of what I put in solely for the purpose of buying energy in bulk for Christmas (the main interest being the Winterfest Prize Boxes, but the other bonuses are nice too).

I'm not at all happy with this response, which was sent a couple of days ago. I have sent another message to this response, but I have yet to receive a reply.
s
Normally, I would say yes to just "sucking it up" and waiting, but I don't want to lose out on all the offers.

Also, as for the "Raising the limit" part... I'm not bothered about it being -raised-, I'm more interested in my limit just being -reset- for this month. I believe my spending limit is $200 a month at the moment. That's pretty much the only amount I wanted to spend, no more than that. Raising the limit isn't my concern, I just wanted it to be reset as if the month has passed.

Surely you can just buy whatever it is you need with CE? I mean, if you're having to raise the spending limit then surely you have some of the CE left over from it to buy promotions with.

Then you're grossly overspending. There's no conceivable way that you should have hit the spend limit (which is pretty high from the get-go, for your average player) and immediately run out of funds to just buy stuff with in game. Just no way you should have spent your CE that fast.

And idk dude; your plan relies entirely on spending vast amounts of cash to get CE so you can..get an outftit that you can probably buy for half the price within three weeks? Isn't it sorta flawed from word one, even without the spend limit? Worry less about this one, crucial item to your wallets existence and just try having fun and playing the game~

Still, not exactly the point.

Kinda is the point. This entire post is made based on overspending and greed; the fact that you have zero funds remaining to compensate for a flaw in the plan is...entirely, 100% related.

You can call it overspending if you like, but to me, it's cheap. I don't see the issue. If you don't like spending, then ok. But I don't follow your views.

And as for being able to buy an outfit for half the price three weeks after now? That Impostoclaus costume is only gonna rise in price after christmas. You got your facts mixed up badly.

That's how the game is telling you that you are spending too much.. and unless we get something like $3 explorer packs like last christmas then you're still wasting your money.

Businesses can refuse to take

Businesses can refuse to take you as a customer (within certain laws). OOO obviously has decided that they would rather lose your business than the potential losses from "fraud" purchases. So, it is perfectly fair. What you are really complaining about is that your lack of control caused you to hit the limit before any potential deals. You should have taken this into consideration when you started purchasing CE. Supposedly you read the terms when you joined and purchased CE (odds are you didn't).

As others have said, you can always buy the stuff on an alt account and transfer it. Just don't buy the pack with the e-pass on your alt or it'll be wasted. You can also buy the outfit via steam with steam gift cards or whatever else is tradeable on steam. I'm sure you'll find someone willing to sell for a lot less then it'll take you to get one via CE offers.

I look at it this way:

1 hour of FSC grinding = 7,500 CR = 100 CE
1 hour of IRL work = $10 = 3,600 CE

You do the math.

6 hours of IRL work = $60 = 20,000 CE = You just paid $60 to ruin the game, do you feel proud of yourself now?
6 hours of FSC grinding = 45,000 CR = 750 CE. You can get some cool accessories which you feel proud about earning, or you could try your luck at the unique variant machine. + Game remains unruined
Several other ways to make CR/CE= BN/LD/WF/JK = Up to 1,000 CE an hour + Game remains unruined
1-5 hour Merching/Flipping/Auction House stalking = 1-50,000 CE depending on luck/starting cash + Game remains unruined

Your move, Sherlock.

I actually sent the staff a request to lower my spending limit when once (I think half a year ago?) I reached my spending limit. Made me realize I was sinking money into a game with low returns. Sadly my request to make my spending limit only $20 or $25 was denied because they -can't- go below $100 supposedly.

Exceeding the spending limit shouldn't happen...

ever...

Like, entertainment? I am going to buy a CE pack soon, but more for cristmas as a gift and such. I've only bought CE about 3 times since the beta release. That's about once every 6 months or so.

I can't believe we have some low/no spenders saying that it's bad to buy a lot of CE. Alright, we wont exceed our spending limits, and we'll play the game fair. You realize CE prices would shoot back to 9k+ without big spenders buying just to convert to crowns, right? I'm sorry I would like to pay more for more entertainment. I've logged over 80 days combined on my many Spiral Knights accounts for about $4k USD; about $2 an hour. Compared to more popular forms of entertainment like movies, that's a pretty good ratio.
.
I'm sorry dumping more than a million CE into the market to sell to people who don't fund the game's servers and content ruins it for you.

Just how in the name of all things Spiral did you come up with 1,000 CE per hour for Blast Network, Lockdown, and Jelly King? That's a complete lie. The only activity you listed that could even have a remote chance of earning that much is Winterfest, but that's only if you get extremely lucky and get lots of rare items from the prize boxes.

Your claim that buying CE "ruins" the game is completely groundless. Unless you can give me one good reason why buying CE would ruin the game, I'm just going to assume you hold an unwarranted hatred against the concept of paying to play.

Six hours of Firestorm Citadel gives you 26.6 times less energy than six hours of work. You'd have to spend an entire week, without eating or sleeping or taking any kind of break, to get as much energy as you do from working for six hours. Also, you don't get accessories from Firestorm Citadel, so I have no idea where you got that idea from.

Oh, please. If earning 50,000 CE in an hour was really that easy, everyone would be doing it.
