Currently my sword, helm and armor are lvl10, 3* and my shield is lvl5, 4* I've reached 6-1 missions.
I fare well if I manage to separate the enemies, but they often swarm me in tight spaces and I die very easily in the beginning of missions that are shown as cyan on the danger level indicator. I didn't buy my way to here, as I haven't paid for anything yet and I have no guild/friends to help me, so I guess my progression is natural and I should have that equipment at that level.
When should I be able to solo RJP?
Royal Jelly Palace is in Stratum 4, and hence designed for 3-star equipment. You should be able to beat it. Once your skill is established, you can solo the first two levels in 2-star gear without taking any damage. Practice "kiting", which is the tactic of leading monsters, while charging a weapon, releasing your charge attack on them, and then repeating. (I hope that you're not using a piercing weapon. They're great, but not in Royal Jelly Palace, where almost everything resists them.) Also, it should be easy to find a guild; just stand in front of the Auction House and ask people, or check out the Guild Recruitment forum.
For killing the jelly king himself I would suggest getting a weapon that can poison since that's the only way to kill him really. I know people have done it without poison, but oh gods that is so much harder. Poison's also just a nice status to be able to do to enemies.
When I have, like, 4 jellies taking turns in attacking I can't get near them without getting hit, since they make an almost perpetual attack. I also get surrounded in the area with the chess placed spikes and have troubles getting out.
I use a striker, dusker cap & coat and a dark thorn shield. My auto target is disabled to allow me to circle around slow-turning opponents while attacking them.
The striker isn't really useful so get a nightblade and also guns work wonders here as most monsters are slow so kiting is awesome and get the Shadowtech alchemer Mk II too.
It's hard to kite with a Cutter-line sword, because the charge attack is so dangerous against a crowd. Put simply, Cutters are not great swords. Rabeet-Ahsan's solution, to get a Brandish with shadow damage for slimes, is ideal.
But if you want to stick with a Cutter, here are some ideas. Use shield bumping to separate one jelly from the others, and hit it a couple of times. Or circle the crowd until you find an opportunity to land a hit or two on one of the more isolated jellies.
Don't fight in the chessboard-spiked room. Hit the blue block to open the place, and then run out to the central room, and fight the monsters there. (When I do this, I hit the blue block, then run left, down, and right. The spikes go down so that I can run over them safely.) The exploding blocks are a bit of a nuisance --- especially for a short-sword user --- but they might also help you separate some monsters from the crowd.
the phenomenon i call "stair-casing" where multiple monsters take turns attacking can be easily countered by this: walk within range of all of them. this is about 2 blocks away from where they are, and then run away. it will trigger multiple ones to attack at the same time, and you exploit the cool down timer of their attacks. you can also do this to work urself out of a corner. if u have the space, you can also take an extra step by running away from all of them, then running within range to reset all of their attack timers to the same time.
and yes, cutter is not good against jellies, who are harder to hit-stun and are very aggressive, 360 degree attackers. nightblade is the optimal 3* imo, and is useful throughout playing SK for gremlins and jellies, who are often paired up with constructs (in which shadow damage suffers no penalty).
like bopp said, the easiest way to handle that room is to run out as fast as possible.
Just use a tempered calibur you can practically solo the whole thing with that. Some asian guy on youtube did it with only a calibur and a blaster! I tried it and it was amazingly easy to do. Optional: Get a elemental gun.

"Get a Faust. 'Nuff said."
Yes that is a good sword to take.
Also take poison and curse vials with you and make sure you have some (if not all pierce resist)
Optional equiptment:
Blaster (gun)
Poison version of Striker
I have both a vile striker and a faust; it's easier to solo JK with faust.
The rest of your gear can be pretty much whatever if you have the 4* faust and thorn shield and use them properly.
Of course the ideal armor is chroma set or its upgrades.
Bringing a poison weapon can be helpful though so I bring vile striker to the jelly king in case I run out of vials, but Venom Veiler or its 4* version is probably a better choice if you're deciding what to build.
With the right vials to throw, of course, it's possible to solo JK with just about anything so you can farm jelly palace and only solo the king when you have a good mix of poison/curse/fire vials.
Also, for guns don't take blaster. Shadow Driver/Umbra Driver isn't a bad choice, I'm not sure if Shadowtech MkII does enough damage to bother but it's better than blaster. (Unless you're bringing it for the gun puppies in the palace, then you should bring an elemental alchemer instead of blaster and not use your gun in the final fight.)
As someone who mains as a gunner:
Take two guns, preferably at least one shadow if possible, and run shoot run shoot run shoot, circle strafe, etc.
If you can use them well, guns are, in my opinion, one of the safest options.
I agree though that you'll really want poison for the JK if your weapons aren't above 3 or even 4-star.
with 3* gear, it is possible to solo RJP fairly painlessly. i've done it in 2* gear while raising alts (raised a newbie swordie, bomber and gunner). the levels before the boss should be doable in even lower * gear (albeit painfully slowly), though im not sure the boss himself is doable in full proto because of the self-heal.
my guess is that you havent tried manipulating the hordes much. i don't know what kind of gear you use, but generally baiting jellies to attack, move out of range of their attack, and then using a charge attack works with calibur lines, brandish lines, alchemers and many other weapons can be used to tackle jelly mobs this way. jellies are pretty predictable so make use of that. turning off auto target may also help. also, always try to leave yourself an escape route. the method i most frequently use is to go far to the left so mobs follow me to the left, and then run to the right and the mobs will follow u to the right. of course, you dont always have to do the left then the right, but this will clump enemies together, leaving more open space to run.
