Preface

The following story does not endorse any specific items in the actual game nor carry a tone of favoritism in the main character(s). It is loosely connected to the mission story line in which I will be using it during progression. Some scenes will be realistic in the sense of physics and how "things" work in the Spiral Knight world. Few human characteristics and logics will be present during the story. Development may be slow due to my odd free time hours.

Enjoy the story.

Prologue

“You are a wonderful listener, young one. I know you will do good in this world of unforgiving.”

The instructor’s voice was pleasant and soft, her tone full of admiration. The disciple lowered his head in respect, eyes closed for a brief moment.

“Thank you, ma’am. I appreciate your words of kindness and wisdom. My fullest gratitude to you, I know lessons with me required much patience…”

The instructor placed her hand under her pupil’s chin, gently rising his eyes to meet hers.

“Do not grief over how difficult it was for you to learn. Rather, you should be happy that you can escape from this Medium. You have a mind that I have conversed with great trials and errors. You have the gift of diverse conformity, and you will use it to your own standards.”

The pupil stared into the instructor’s eyes before sitting down, wondering his gaze all around him. The space was completely white. Void of any other color other than gray, with different shades on their odd, fabric apparel, hands, head, and eyes. The surface he sat on did not have a differentiation with the rest of their surroundings, almost as if the two beings we’re floating in a white nothing. He crossed his legs as his instructor sat down in the same position beside.

“You are ready to leave, my student. Prepare for the world ahead of you, and forever be pure.”

The instructor placed her hand out for the learner to hold.

“Thank you again, teacher. I will not forget what you have taught me.”

He grasped her hand gently, and felt his body become unresponsive. He let whatever was happening takes it’s course and felt a great force flush throughout his torso and expand outward. A cool feel greeted his limbs and head as the buzzing of an unknown object amplified gradually. The white light dissipated into black, and he struggled to see his instructor’s face. His limbs began to respond and he felt around while his sight was completely unable. Whatever he was in, it was spherically shaped, cold, and sturdy with a few unknown items jutting out with different figures. Slowly, he could see a variety of colors and a small yellow hue illuminating behind him. Patiently, he waited for his optical sensors to adjust accordingly to his surroundings before reaching for a large box labeled “Standard Emergency Kit”. In it, he discovered a refined sword with few scratches on the tip and a formidably sized handgun. An exit or entrance was apparent and directly in front of him with no handle. He kicked it multiple times before it fell and stooped out of the pod. A blinding light shone down on his figure, a warm heat emanating from it. The area was rich in vegetation, displaying their prime growth and color. The rugged terrain seemed to smooth out upward into an elongated cliff, trailing off into the distance. He was marveled at the sight of it all, trapped in his own deep thought. A foreign device was vibrating on the right side of his head, and he felt for a second. An aged, masculine voice spoke from the device.

“… come in, Oville, are you there? This is Recon Knight Rhendon.”

He hesitated for a moment. The name Oville sounded familiar and it pained him to try and remember. Is this who he was? He placed two fingers on the tiny machine and thought for words. He spoke reluctantly.

“I’m here… what happened?”

Although the story just started and applications are closed, you're welcome to drop it in for future observation. I'm unsure when I'll be using apps, so you'd have to be patient. Applications preferably in this outline:

Name:

Gender:

Personality:

Bio:

Gear:

Gear line is preferred instead of a direct weapon/armor piece. I don't know when app characters will be used since I will progress along in star level as well, so it's best to have the line only.

Chapter 1

All over the rescue camp, knights rushed to get to different locations in an unnecessary sprint. Orders we’re being shouted by higher ranks, assorting which group of knights goes where and who does what. Many young knights were sent down an elevator in groups of four, armed in preparation of dangerous hostiles. A merchant stood revealing his inventory to a couple knights while others were idly resting or taking a seat near a grand fire and mingling with one another. A medium, red-patterned knight relaxed under a makeshift tent, legs sprawled and back leaning against the close wall behind his tent. He held his left thigh and wrapped a thick bandage around before letting go. A Proto sword lay on his lap and he stared at it intently. He picked it up with one hand, fiddled with the scars and scratches on the sword with the other, then placed it next to him and gazed into the fire.

“Hello?” A feminine voice spoke outside the tent and a light, green tailed helmet poked out in front of it. “Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were in here. Excuse me…”

“No wait, it’s fine. There’s room for one more miss!” The injured youngster squirmed to the side, making room for the stranger. It pained him to relocate his leg as he felt the gash expand, though he tried to make it unobvious. He grimaced distastefully during his movement and did not notice until the now-acquaintance acknowledged it.

“Are you okay? Whatever caused that did a real number on you.” She remained where she stood, ignoring the kind gesture he made. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come to you. I only made it worse, and you’re in no condition to be moving.” The young knight was about to part until the injured knight had something to say.

“Miss, don’t worry about me. You need rest, please sit. You don’t want my painful gesture to be in vain, do you?” The red knight joked dryly. “Come, pop a squat. We’ve all had a long day.” She looked back at his glowing, red eyes and glanced at his leg once more. She smiled and accepted the offer.

“I’m Ghillen. You can call me Ghil.” Ghil raised his hand for a formal greeting as his acquaintance did the same.

“Tera. If you don’t mind me asking, what happened to you?” Tera switched sights between Ghillen and the wound.

“Just a mistake made from some gremlin squabble,” Ghillen inhaled briefly. “I’ll be back on my feet by tomorrow, nothing big.” Ghillen observed Tera as she lie her head back on the wall and closed her optics, displaying a mere thin, green line. “You look exhausted Tera. I assume you don’t feel like mingling?” She opened her optics once more and turned her head to respond. “Well-”
The unsheathing of a sword echoed throughout the camp and all went silent except for a lone, panting knight and a few seemingly older knights screaming at the novice. The young Proto knight stood grasping his sword with both hands in a stance of defense. The three others were unarmed, their weapons dangling from their hip and all hands parallel to their head. One attempted to negotiate, slightly closer to the hostile than the others.

“Stand down Jin. It was a misunderstanding, just let them be and sheathe your weapon!” The lavender-trimmed novice glanced towards the two knights behind the negotiator before slowly sliding his blade back into it’s sheathe. He stood sternly, hands curled into fists and sight locked on the negotiator. The three knights relaxed and lowered their arms to their side. One of the two behind walked forward and grabbed the leader by his shoulder.

“You need to keep your squadron in check, soldier. If you can’t handle it, you need to leave your position.” The knight shook off his peer’s arm and mumbled under his breath as he walked up to Jin. Jin slid his hands behind his back and stared blankly at his squad leader as he approached, his breath still heavy from before.

“Get back in line Jin. One more outburst and I’m fixing to send you into the Clockworks alone with your bare fists as your only weapon.” Jin snickered as his leader walked off. He turned towards the large campfire and sat close to the flames. He laid back as Ghillen and Tera watched, a ponderous look on his as he stared into the night. The rescue camp was no place for him, and he wanted out as soon as possible. Tera picked herself up, whispering to Ghil before going to investigate this lavender knight. “I’m going to say hi.” He nodded and laid back and gazed at the fire once again.
