Skolver, Snarbolax, or Vog Cub?

That's a common question.

That's a common question. Please search the forum for the pages and pages of opinions already posted on the subject.

Short version, because I'm too lazy to do the search in your place :
- Skolver for LD, because of pierce resistance, freeze immune to Shiver and DMG, all of which are ideal
- Vog Cub for FSC, because of fire resistance
- Snarbolax to deal with fiends family, because of shadow resistance. Some people fancy Snarbolax with fire resistance for FSC, but I don't consider it a good idea.

Long story short, there is no "best". Ideally, you'll want to get all 3 and mix and match according the situation up ahead.

@Fradow:

But... my snarbalarbolax coat with fire and shock max protects me from all the slags and trojans and with my seerus mask and blitz i can dodge and hit Vanabanana where it hurts without getting hit, since he is the only reason people chose elemental resist over shadow resist.

besides at the final phase Vana summons two, i mean TWO Slag defenders while there is only one of Vana... DO THE MATH HERE! xD naw i kid. if you grind before the boss and don't do the boss Snarb. though vog for the boss. it's all opinions and situational based anyways.

@Bella-Donna Puppies, fire

@Bella-Donna
Puppies, fire tiles, Mask and I'm sure I forgot one I'm certain. What do they have in common ? They are dangerous. And they deal elemental damage.

Also, one Vana is WAAAYYYYY bigger than 2 tiny Slags.

Though yes, you can do FSC with Snarbolax, especially with fire resist. After all, some people do it in Proto armor.

yeah, i'm just bored and trolling a bit though i find the slag defenders hit me more than vana does... i wonder why? *sidesteps the mace and hits with a charged blitz.*

also fire tiles aren't too dangerous... for those who pay attention to their surroundings though vana spawning them is annoying. Mask is part of Vana so already mentioned. Puppies are usually the first thing killed thanks to a trollaris i carry around or sometimes it's the WRH with it's massive single target DPS

Basically it comes down to an opinion and enemy numbers and density.personally i feel the elemental damage dealers are few compared to the trojans and undead that swarm the place, but the power switches from shadow to elemental as soon as you get to the boss.

Bad question, but if you want

Bad question, but if you want to heavily oversimplify, Snarby because it has a slightly better total of status resists.

OP, please use the search bar next time, thank you.

@DukeplatypusWhat makes you

Edit : DANG, my mistake. Someone else confirmed that Snarby has highs and not meds, and that PvP immune is high +max.
Please ignore the rest of the post (left to not confuse people). The Duke is right.

@Dukeplatypus
What makes you say that ? As far as I know, Snarbolax get Freeze : Med (2) and Poison : Med (2), while Skolver get Freeze : Max (4) and Vog Cub get Fire : Max (4). They all have the exact same amount of status resists.

After that, if you consider immunes, full skolver or full vog get you :
- immune in PvP against weak sources (haze bombs)
- requires only a low on either part for PvE immune to weak sources (drones, oilers)

On the other hand, full Snarbolax requires :
- a med or 2 low for PvP immune against weak sources
- a high and a max for PvE immune to weak sources.

Or did you do some tests that could refute the well-understand system of status resistances and immune, or determine that Snarbolax get High status resistance (which would be in direct contradiction with the well-known PvP immune system, since full Snarbolax doesn't get you Shiver immune).

Snarby gives high Poison and

Snarby gives high Poison and high Freeze on each piece. Compare the stat bars of Snarby to the trinket which we know gives medium resist. I never said anything about the utility of said defenses, I said that I'd give a oversimplied answer for an oversimplified question.

Relax, mate, and check your math. If Skolver has max on each piece and gives Shiver immunity, and Snarby has high on each piece, yet needs a medium trinket or UV to get Shiver resist, I don't see any problem there.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

What are you planning to use it for?
Lockdown, fiend levels, FSC, general purpose?

What else are you using as a helmet?
Divine Veil? Shadowsun Stetson? Volcanic Demo Helm?

Also, what kind of budget are we working with here? If you've got sufficient cash, then you'll be able to afford a Snarbolax Coat with Elemental, Shock and Fire Max! and get away with even better protection than a Vog Cub set would give in FSC (unless you lag regularly or enjoy walking into Red Rover trails).

@Dukeplatypus Well, I guess

@Dukeplatypus
Well, I guess I'll do a thorough check of that, and keep the finding for an eventual occasion later, as indeed the question here is oversimplified. Thanks for pointing that out.

I would go for....

I would go for Skolver since it gives a good damage bonus and plus a Barbarous Thorn Shield you will get a Max damage bonus stat so its incredibly valuable for any sword wielder to get...

You guys are forgetting, snarby the ultimate all timer.

Snarbolax is also as good, if not better, as skolver since it gives the same damage boost as skolver and it also gives defense to 2 statuses both of which are high and it also provides decent defense against GFs and is also as good, yet again if not better, than Vog cup in FSC since it provides defense against those slags and trojans, sadly though no fire protection :(. Its only problem though......yu have to complete a shadow lair to get it.

I have a full 4* gear

Helm: Sunset Stetson

Armor: Ash Tail Coat

Weapons: Blazebrand, M. Blaster, Pepperbox

I'm a F2P

I have no real money

Again, I'm a F2P

I don't do LD

I hate LD

I'm planning on using it on general purpose

-------------------------------------------------

Based on above, what upgrade should I buy/craft?

while waiting for shield

Yes, we should know the shield, as well as how many weapon slots you play with.

Meanwhile, you seem to be a hybrid sworder-gunner. I'd recommend Shadowsun Stetson, Vog Cub Coat, Combuster. I wouldn't upgrade the other stuff.

Voggy for your arsenal~

I'd say go for shadowsun stetson, VOG cub coat and combuster too, like Bopp did^. And you make a blitz, woohoo, a nice FSC set there you go!

Then farm vana with the set-->You make money-->You make another gun(probably an elemental or normal gun) for turrets and if you haven't got an BTS, make it for the damage boost and piercing defense as you have no piercing defense from armour/helm (you dont need much piercing defense except in Shadow Lairs though.).

Here's what I always say--

All three are great, let's get that straight. They all have their uses and anyone specializing in swords should have all three sets down the road.

Start with Vog, since being able to grind FSC efficiently will make getting the energy and money for the other two a piece of cake. I also recommend using two Elite Slash Modules in conjunction with it (assuming you use trinkets).

Get Skolver next for a piercing set. It also comes very handy in UGW (Shadow Lair Gloaming Wildwoods), which will most likely be your first Shadow Lair and when you get your Snarby set. Also good for Lockdown if you're into it. I suggest using two Elite Quick Strike Modules in conjunction with it.

And finally get Snarbolax, and this will be your shadow defense set. Like Skolver; using two Elite Quick Strike Modules in conjunction with it is a smart idea.
