Um wouldn't it make more sense to tell your FRIENDS you're leaving and not everyone in the entire forums? That's the equivalent of going to the mall with a bullhorn and saying "hey guys I'm moving out". Granted, SK DOES need a way to forward the same message to multiple people (and the forums badly need PMs)

Fact is, they don't. Some might, but not everyone. And said some people, save for you, don't whine everywhere because people don't think the same way they do.
Fact is, nobody but you cares who posts their farewell threads in GD, because they're too busy saying bye, because unlike some people, they like to consider people on the internet as actual people and treat them as such. Because really, they are. And there's no harm in letting someone say their farewells.
Another fact is that no-one cares about the JK/RJ thing. Do you go around telling all the kids in the world that Santa is actually called Nicholas? Or that Kiwifruits were actually Chinese Gooseberries, or that really everyone should use their real names on the internet because otherwise it's not their real name?
No, because they're nicknames people get accustomed to using. I call Tinkinzar 'Tinkerbell' when I'm writing, big deal. Do you hate on people calling Vanaduke 'Vanaduck' too?
