It's not totally clear to me how they work.
Do they only reduce status damage/duration or also the probability to get affected? And what about shield status resistance?

ok, thanks. But I still wonder if it's the same for shields, or if shield status protections actually prevent you from being afflicted (when the shield is in use).
Shield resistances work even when you aren't shielding so I assume it works the same way as the resistances on your armour (reduces length and severity of status).
quoted from mjohnson (admin):
When defending with a shield, most damage will hit your shield first (with the exception of status condition damage such as being on fire). Your shield defenses will dull the attack, and then damage is applied to your shield's health. Any status conditions in the attack will also damage your shield's health, but being resistant to a status condition will either reduce or completely eliminate any damage from that condition. On the flip side, if a shield is vulnerable to a status condition, it could be taking more damage than normal when hit by an attack causing the condition.
From what I've read, they don't reduce the odds of being afflicted-- they reduce the severity and duration of the affliction (i.e. Fire and Shock hurt less, Curse locks fewer weapons/items, Freeze breaks on fewer hits, Stun doesn't reduce your mobility as much, and everything wears off sooner than if you didn't have any resistance).
