This "Idiot" and I'm not pin-pointing... He tried scamming me. He tried taking my crown of winter. Yes, that person was offering me something and forcing me to accept. Now that's not really smart to do. Here's the story.

I was wondering in Spiral knights, opening my Winterfest Prize Box. I recieved a crown of winter. Yes, so I went to Haven. Then for some reason I bragged once that I recieved the crown of winter. Then this noob who was Defender Elite, was offering me a frosty headband and a frosty toupee. Now, this is where he started to be an idiot. He started begging "Plzzzz accept my ofer. ill pay 500 crowns!". This guy had horrible grammar, and kept it up. Then he gave me more ridiculous offers like "I will be ur friend and help you in missions". I denied it, and walked away. For some reason, he kept begging and started lying. He claimed that he works for OOO, which is not true because of the horrible grammar. He started saying that he does now and nobody knows him. Of course nobody does, he's a attention seeker!

He said "Did you know that we will make the market for OOO staff only? We will make it 50 crowns each for 100 CE. Please gimme the crown of winter". No I didn't know, and that is spoiling + infinite grinding. Why would OOO do that? Hell no. I said "Ok dude, the crown of winter is expensive. You can get it from the winterfest prize box only. It's by purchasing with real money. I brought the promo for $9.99"

He said that the crown of winter is worth 500 crowns only. "I'm giving you 4k worth of frosty things. Plz gimme!" I had fun being annoyed with the noob so I played around and said "Dude, that's false. You want the Crown of winter? Pay up, 600k.". He said no! So he tried reporting me.

I laughed, and this noob is ridiculous. I'm not falling for his trick. He was just poor, so I added him to my ignore list.

I was trolling him after he started to [Palms] me off. So I had to start it and then my last thing I did was to ignore him. He kept offering me stupid offers. There was another person who was in my guild offering me 2 frosty accessories. One was a headband and the other was a Com Unit.

Do you guys think that those 2 accessories are fair for a crown of winter or 500k +?

"So the situation wasn't entirely his fault."

...I'm actually with Hex on this.

So you're saying it's not entirely the 'noob's fault that he was so desperate to con this guy that he ended up impersonating OOO staff and tried to heavily understate the price of the item, because the 'victim' as playing hard to get in an attempt to amuse himself when he realized this guy was just trying to scam him.

1) Idiots will be idiots. Your choice whether or not you want to find it funny.
2) Hex was pointing out that you clearly mentioned 'the noob that was trying to take advantage of [him], yet you still find the OP at fault.

Riddle me this: Is it my fault for having the email address that was randomly targeted by virus spam?

Riddle me this: Is it my fault that the school bully threw me into a pool because I said I couldn't swim while he was behind me?

Riddle me this: Is it my fault for getting run over because I didn't cross the Zebra Crossing fast enough?

None of these scenarios have actually happened to me, of course. But can you really blame the 'victim' in any of these cases? Clearly the victim had some role to play in their own demise, yet is it their fault?

Same applies here.

He didn't ''con'' the guy. He would've conned the guy had he been successful. Some kid wanted to get richer in a video game. I don't see what the big deal is. Everybody here is a greedy [jerk], the only difference is how you decide to exploit your greed.

He wasn't playing ''hard to get''. But the fact that he was toying around with the very thing he happens to have a problem with kind of undermines his issue.

''amuse himself''

That's why this whole thing is a joke and I'm not the one taking this more seriously than I should. That's you.

I think you discredit the noob by calling him an idiot. I'm sure we've all had situations in which we've been pretty nooby, does that make you or anybody else an idiot? No, I don't think so. But if you want to think you, yourself are an idiot. Then hey, be my guest.

Sure I find the OP at fault because he did not help his own situation, he added to it.

Your analogies are silly. This is just a noob being a noob. Nothing else. It's not some dude spamming viruses to your email, and that's not even that big of a deal either to be fair. It's certainly not a bully bullying you. I don't understand how you could come to that kind of a conclusion. You insult people who get bullied with that kind of statement.

The third analogy doesn't even make sense. I assume that was where you stopped trying to make analogies and realized that they were all ridiculous.

I already said earlier that I do believe he has some degree of blame. Thus I CAN blame him.

"That's why this whole thing

"That's why this whole thing is a joke and I'm not the one taking this more seriously than I should. That's you."

It's funny, because that statement is irony in itself.

"Your analogies are silly. This is just a noob being a noob. Nothing else. It's not some dude spamming viruses to your email, and that's not even that big of a deal either to be fair. It's certainly not a bully bullying you. I don't understand how you could come to that kind of a conclusion. You insult people who get bullied with that kind of statement."

Your counter to my analogies is silly. Why even bother to make analogies if they're not going to be the same thing. Why bother comparing anything to anything if you're going to just disregard them as 'not the same thing'?

If I really have to spell it out because you're too aloof to even try understand it yourself: It's not someone's fault for getting into an issue because they contributed to it, unknowingly and indirectly.

"You insult people who get bullied with that kind of statement."

How moronic are you? Pray tell how my analogy insults victims of bullying?

"The third analogy doesn't even make sense."

Oh my Vog, I really DO have to spell everything out for you.

I'm crossing the road at an area designated as a 'cross the road' area. I have the right of way. If a car comes and squashes me flat out of the blue as I was crossing, it wouldn't be my fault, although someone could technically argue that it was my fault for not walking that little bit faster so that the car would've missed.

'I' 'contributed' by not moving fast enough to avoid the accident. But in a real-case scenario, no-one would blame the victim for that, would they?

Same goes here. OP 'contributed' by not just shutting down the case then and there, so the 'offender' continued. How does that discredit the OP? He didn't invite 20 of his friends to mock him for his terrible grammar or anything of the like. He just sat there and saw how far he was going to take it.

Your argument doesn't even make any sense. The OP figured out that this guy was planning to scam him. Obviously he wasn't successful, and wasn't going to be. How is sitting there to see how far it goes any different from ignoring the person outright? Both would frustrate the 'offender' by giving a negative result. If anything, it just shows how pathetically desperate the person is to try and make money of someone else's ignorance.

"Some kid wanted to get richer in a video game. I don't see what the big deal is. Everybody here is a greedy [jerk], the only difference is how you decide to exploit your greed."

I could relate that to real life, but you'd pull the 'Duh, vidya gaem' argument, which is bull, really. If you're going to be a bucket to everyone online, what's the difference between you and the buckets in real life?

"Duh, it's only online, and in a game." WHO CARES. You represent yourself on the internet. Wear a mask in real life and pretend it's something else other than reality, it's the same shtick. You represent yourself no matter what you choose to mask it; if you're going to act any different while 'wearing the mask', one can assume it's part of someone's character to be that way anyway.

Playing the game how it's supposed to be played is a different set entirely. But outside of gameplay: If you're going to act like a prick, don't get offended when people assume you are one.

Same thing. Act like a little thief ingame, expect to be treated no different.

TL;DR:
Scammer trying to pull a scam would've tried the same shitck regardless or not if the OP was bothering to pay attention. You act like he provoked the guy to try him and blame the OP for not shutting it down before it started.

Just because he wouldn't see it doesn't mean said scammer wouldn't have tried it. Seeing it just shows what it would be.

  1. As far as the story can tell, OP never did anything apart from brag about his fortune once, listen to the guy and say "Dude, that's false. You want the Crown of winter? Pay up, 600k" to which OP is entirely entitled to say.
  2. I accept people can be greedy and want to get rich in the game and they're allowed to be. However, there are both acceptable and unacceptable ways of doing so.
  3. Deceit and impersonation of authority are both unacceptable ways.

There are 21 individuals

There are 21 individuals above me but only 2 that I could have been referring to. I find it amusing that you actually bothered to count how many people there were.

I don't think I need to tell you to get a life again, but hey, you keep hinting it..

I would have either been referring to the topic maker, or the one that had barked the loudest. And yes, I know you're going to say the tc because he is more important or w/e. But I DID say, earlier, directly, that YOU needed to get a life in particular. And my response to that guy was simply a follow up to that post.

So the bottom line is, you missed it. It was something simple that flew right over you. Hey, it's okay smart guy, [scrap] happens.

All I said to the tc is that I didn't like either of the two people in this story. And I don't. If you hadn't come in here to ''OMG!!1 RIDDLE ME DIS!'', I doubt I would've stuck around for much longer.

That is how much of a [scrap] I give about this topic.

So this stuff about me ''whining''. I dunno man, maybe you need to reanalyze this? Because it's seemingly a bit far fetched.

I can deduce you're taking this [scrap] seriously by multiple ways. First, it's by how much you've contributed, which is undoubtedly more than myself, more than the tc, and more than anybody else around here. Another is how you keep attributing this [scrap] to a real life situation, which is [rusty buckets] to be honest.

The question I want to ask you is if you've ever been scammed before. Who was it? What did they scam? Was it your best friend? Did he betray your trust? Take the best items you had? Because man, I am going to be completely sincere right now. I think you're taking this worse than the very person that made this topic.

Well I would actually believe Psy is making more of a point, but let me clarify his points for you

For your first response "I honestly don't know which of the two people I find more obnoxious in your story. The noob that tried to take advantage of you or you."

Well truth be told, you can't say that ben is obnoxious just by trying to (or slightly even) to troll the scammer. The scammer, whether not trying very hard or just fails so badly at it, is soliciting for a crown of winter at a impossible price.

"Sure I find the OP at fault because he did not help his own situation, he added to it."

He said the price is 600k, which is nothing wrong. Trading goes this way, ever seen pawn stars? I go , you go , then we go to an equilibrium. But the fact that the scammer was trying to achieve a crown for an outrageously low price, not to mention CONTINUOUSLY begging for it. If you can't agree to a price, then don't buy it. Simple logic.

"You need to get a life."

I'm pretty sure forums raging is still more meaningful than playing 24/7 on Spiral Knights. But seriously, psy is not someone you would say "get a life" to. It's not like him to play all day, or even go on the forums, but when he does, he says meaningful things.

"I don't think I need to tell you to get a life again, but hey, you keep hinting it.."

He doesn't hint it. He makes sure he has substantial evidence to prove his point to you. Basic rule of debate.

"All I said to the tc is that I didn't like either of the two people in this story. And I don't. If you hadn't come in here to ''OMG!!1 RIDDLE ME DIS!'', I doubt I would've stuck around for much longer.

If you don't get it, or just plain ignorant, doesn't mean you should bother to put in your opinion about his analogies here.

"I can deduce you're taking this [scrap] seriously by multiple ways. First, it's by how much you've contributed, which is undoubtedly more than myself, more than the tc, and more than anybody else around here. Another is how you keep attributing this [scrap] to a real life situation, which is[rusty buckets] to be honest."

First, he was explaining how the "scammer" was actually more obnoxious than ben. Secondly, he then continues to provide more reasons to disagree to your logic of stating both parties were at fault. Third, he then bites back because you clearly slightly (or more) insulted him by telling him to get a life. IRL, you wouldn't try to get scammed too, wouldn't you? So what's the difference between life and this game?

"The question I want to ask you is if you've ever been scammed before. Who was it? What did they scam? Was it your best friend? Did he betray your trust? Take the best items you had? Because man, I am going to be completely sincere right now. I think you're taking this worse than the very person that made this topic.

I think you are taking it worse by clearly misunderstanding ben's post. It was so CLEAR that ben was getting scammed by a stranger, unknown behind the mask of anonymity. A smarter person would know when is it a scam, and when is it not. If a friend scams you (I said "if"), then he is not your friend, so why would you made him your friend in the first place? So why would you even post here in the first place?

Two things.

He isnt an idiot. He obviously knew the price of the Crown easily exceeded the prices of everything he offered you.

Granted, he was desperate, but he was not an idiot.

Second, this happens all the time. It would not have been a scam, by the way, if you accepted the offer. So he did not try to "Scam" you.

All in all, he made himself look dumb by impersonating a staff member, since most staff members have access to whatever they want. But you didn't lose anything, so good for you.

(I also think that if you didn't brag about it you wouldn't have attracted his attention and thus would have saved time.)

I do believe impersonating or claiming to be a OOO employee is against the ToS. The poor grammar and spelling just fits the troll stereotype. I dislike those who try to scam others. Dishonesty and Deceit are only easier to accept when you hide behind an avatar, where your annonymity reaches a peak.

" I find it amusing that you

" I find it amusing that you actually bothered to count how many people there were."

/eyeroll

Please, it took me the whole of 4 seconds. Hardly time wasted considering I would've wasted it replying to you anyway.

"I don't think I need to tell you to get a life again, but hey, you keep hinting it."

And you complain I don't make sense. Clearly you have as little a life as me if you have time to waste replying with cynical remarks to each of my posts.

"And my response to that guy was simply a follow up to that post."

"I said this but I really meant that." ...Haha, you actually expect people to bother trying to understand who you're talking to when where and why? That is so naive; that's how misunderstandings occur and people get offended.

If you're not clear, you can expect things like this to occur. That's what's happening now, if you're too dense to notice.

"If you hadn't come in here to ''OMG!!1 RIDDLE ME DIS!'', I doubt I would've stuck around for much longer."

But you did, to back up a point you made earlier stating that you'd much prefer to support a scammer than the victim-who-wasn't. WHich makes me wonder who really is more obnoxious; Scammer, OP, or you.

"That is how much of a [scrap] I give about this topic."

Blah blah, "I'm above all this fecal matter, I don't actually care", blah. You're just contradicting yourself if you're trying to pull that but insist on keeping this up.

"First, it's by how much you've contributed, which is undoubtedly more than myself, more than the tc, and more than anybody else around here."

That's because I actually bother formulating an argument instead of typing whatever fecal matter figuratively rises to your fingers, which in your case, comes in the form of 'lol I really don't care ya'll just a bunch of nerdy 'tards'.

Which in the end just makes you look worse really, considering that instead of making a point and backing it up you just pretend to not care.

Which also, btw, is not fooling anyone.

"Another is how you keep attributing this [scrap] to a real life situation, which is [blah blah profanity stuff] to be honest."

It's really not. Not my fault if you're too naive to understand, I already explained it in my previous post.

"The question I want to ask you is if you've ever been scammed before."

Another reason you give me to believe you are so naive. Yes, I have been scammed before, no, I don't intend to trust that person if I ever see them again. But frankly, that's as far as it goes. Been scammed or not, I'd be putting up the same fight I am now, because that's how I am.

You really don't know me, so don't even try to pin classic psychological-problem tags to me, because the bulk probably don't even apply.
