Looking to see if there is a max on a stat,so after much research on the wiki im generally looking for:

1.a good amount of defence towards everything
2.no extra deficientcies (extra fire,shock,etc)
3.Overall Good armor for:Regular runs,Jelly King,and Citadel

here is what ive come up with:

Dragon scale helm:
Piercing Defence:7 1/4 bars
Elemental Defence:7 1/4 bars

Fire Resist : 3 bars

Valkyrie Mail:
Normal Defence:6 1/4 bars
Shadow Defence:6 1/4 bars

Poison Resist:3 bars
Curse Resist:3 bars
Fire Deficiency: 3 bars

Aegis:
Normal Defence:8 bars
Piercing Defence:8 bars

This comes up to
Normal Defence:14 1/4 bars
Piercing Defence:15 1/4 bars
Elemental 7 1/4 bars
Shadow 6 1/4 bars

Poison resist:3 bars
Curse resist :3 bars
Fire resist : 0 (+3 from Dragon scale helm - 3 from Valkyrie Mail)

What do you guys think?I feel there isnt enough Shadow and Elemental Defence for Citadel.any Item swaping suggestions?

Only two things can hit you

Only two things can hit you with Piercing: Large spiny Lichen-type monsters, and spike pits. The former are not common, and the latter are very avoidable.

You might want to swap at least one of your Piercing pieces with Elemental, Shadow or even more Normal. You could even go in with no Piercing at all, and possibly be better off that way unless, for example, your computer is not very good and you keep lagging into spikepits.

Swaping Aegis for Dread skelly sheild

Swaping Aegis for Dread skelly sheild would definatly give me more shadow protection.

Dread skelly sheild:
Normal:6 1/4 bars
Shadow : 8 bars

Stats would be:
Normal: 12 1/2 bars
Piercing : 7 1/4 bars
Elemental : 7 1/4 bars
Shadow :14 bars

at the moment i cant swap the Dragon scale helm due to the +3 fire resist, which counters the -3 fire deficientcy on the Valkyrie mail

It's best to have more Fire resistance.

Have you looked into Radiant Silvermail with Vog Cub Cap?

If you prefer bombs more than

If you prefer bombs more than swords, you could use the Volcanic Demo Helm instead of the Vog Cub Cap. It's essentially identical but with the sword speed bonus translated into bombs. If guns are more your thing, you can try the Nameless Hat-- also identical, translates the speed boost into guns, but strangely does not offer the Fire resistance that the other two do. (Radiant Silvermail doesn't have fire deficiency... But without Normal protection on it, you'll need to be very good at blocking.)

gear balance

you dont need any piercing protection at all really. Also, for the most part every attack you take will be either just normal or a mix of normal and either shadow or elemental. Normal defense is my far the most important stat to max, so make sure you arent sacrificing it for weaker defense like piercing.

Additionally, shields only provide their defense when you are blocking with them, so you definately want normal defense on your shield to make its health last longer. I recommend the Owlite line.

As far as status resists, I wouldnt put too much effort into getting a lot of it, especially if you have to sacrifice useful defense. They are nice, dont get me wrong, especially fire for doing citadel, however they only lower the time they last and the intensity of the effect a bit. Resists like curse for example arent that useful unless you really like using the charge attack on faust, or you run a ton of graveyards. Even then, you will still get hit with the debuff and it will still be annoying, just a little less so.

One more thing, the bars arent an exact science, they cant necessarily be directly compared across items. For example the fang of vog looks like its as fast as the brandish line fire sword however its actually much slower. There are also weapons that look like they do just slightly less then another when the damage is actually considerable. As far as armor goes, i dont have any specific examples however I would take all bar values with a grain of salt and not as an absolute power level of the item to compare or add to others.

A shield doesn't affect

A shield doesn't affect overall defense, just your shields defense

Nothing lacking normal

Nothing lacking normal defense is worth a damn in this game.

If you're doing Citadel, Normal and Elemental are all you need, unless you're terrible at zombies. Even then, however, normal and elemental are infinitely more important.
