When I log in with my Steam account, select char, go to uplink, and then invites, I can send an invitation to someone I know, right? I just need the email. Well, if I get 4 friends to play, and complete the first mission, I get the Steam Knight Mask. But my question is: do the friends receive the invite to play through STEAM or just the regular verison? It's something I just have to know!

You need to send invites from steam, not from the game. Its a different option.

Actually, if you go to uplink tab, like I said, there is a button named "Invite". You write the email of the friend and your name, and SK sends a message to that friend, saying something like "[Your name] wants you to play Spiral Knights".

But that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking if the invite sends them a link to play the REGULAR version (the one on the web) or the one on STEAM.

Nope.

As far as I know, you won't get the steam mask with the e-mail invite stuff. To get that, you have to start a lobby at depth 0, and a window will come up to invite friends from steam. It will only come up, if you have friends online who never played Spiral Knights, and they will be also selectable to send an invite to them. That invite is a steam invite, which they have to click in the chat window. After they clicked it, and played through until the camp, you will get one mini mist tank, and one friend counted for the mask.
