The Honor Series is literally just a re-skin of the Defender line and the Calibur line. It's supposed to be a special homecoming to knights who entered the period during the update to show that "You were here when [Content] was released!". The upgrade shows that you were 5* before the update was released, same applies to the other star-variants.

It's the same thing as the Groundbreaker Set, it was awarded to players who joined during the Preview Event. It pretty much says "Look at the shiny armor I got for being here before you!".

How about just the ability to craft the Honor Blades/shields into their higher tier versions, but through the normal recipes? Ex. if you have an Honor Blade and you want a Lionheart, you have to buy the Calibur line recipes.

And I wanted Honor Armor, too. Oh well :(

I think of it as just to make that you were there, not how good you were. What's the point if you got a 3* sword and got to 4* the week after(me)? Then you have a useless sword that will never be used again or even heated. I think it's better for everyone to be able to get the 5* versions, so that if you are still playing a year from now people will say, "Wow, what's that cool sword you have? Never seen that before" instead of nothing, because you'll never show them a 3* sword you'll never use. When you're 5*, you'll probably look back on it almost like an insult from OOO, saying "nyeh, you have this as a reminder of how bad you were back then. Even though you're better now, we won't give you a better one because :P."

While we're on the same topic....

I think an Honor Guard handgun might be OK, but I'd say leave the bombs out. Sword+shield is a little bit more fitting for this kind of thing. Also, I would have liked to see what they would've come up with if they made an Honor Guard armor set xD Would've been cool.

EDIT: Fine, Guns+Swords+BOMBS+Everything else O_o'

@Fehzor, If I had my way, everyone would not have gotten a shield, and would have gotten the ability to pick which one of the three weapon classes they would like to have, and then gotten that one item, soul bound, of the appropriate tier level, un upgradeable. But then, in addition to the "wai is fwee prsint not upgrade" threads, there would also be "y i no have threeeeeeeee" threads.

The swords are meant to be ceremonial, not necessarily practical. Unless you can dig up some medieval ceremonies that involved high explosives (beyond the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch), I dont see how a Nitro would of been fitting at all. Guns are kinda pushing it, but there is the 21 Gun Salute.

If a 21 gun salute is enough reason for a ceremonial valliance, then fireworks and cannon fire salutes should be enough for a ceremonial nitro. Just make the mini explosion animations extra sparkley.
