I know to craft the snarlbolax armor set you have to make your way through the shadow lair where it is at the very end and that you need to have everything you need to craft the item before you get there. But I have a few questions regarding it.
Is a shadow lair key a one time use or after buying it does the buyer get permanent access? Or is the key a one time use and it is go big or go home?
I noticed there is different tiers can be accessed. Currently for me it looks like tier 2 and 3 shadow lair have a lock on them. I assume this means I have to run from the beginning?
Is it possible to beat shadow lair with only tier 4 armor? I can have a group full of knights with 5-star everything, but I wanted my first armor set to be snarbolax. Is the game going to force me to get skolver or vog before I get snarbolax?

This is all covered in the wiki article "Shadow Lair". A single Shadow Key lets an entire party into a Shadow Lair, but only once. You get clearance for a new tier of Shadow Lair by beating a Shadow Lair on the previous tier.

A lot depends on how skilled and well-equipped your party is. If your teammates are experienced in the Shadow Lair, highly skilled, and well-equipped, then they can carry you through even if you have weak equipment and skill. If your teammates are all 5-star, but they've never done Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods and their 5-star gear is not well-suited to Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods (I assume that's the one you're doing), then it will be tough.
