Hey there my fellow knights! Styrka here.

So, I finally got my act together and made my first full 4 star set, my eyes bright at the aspect of descending into the clockworks to battle gremilins with my Iron Tech Bomb and Electron Vortex! I tightened my demo suit and plunged in and...

...Got mauled by greavers. And spikes. It was terrible.

I know there is no 'one set beats all' truly for free players, but there has to be something to do against greavers. Should I switch out a bomb for a sword? What of a gun? But then, my bomber status is revoked and the armor becomes less helpful. It would be better to have full Chaos with a mixed set. Any ideas?

-Styrka

You have to anticipate. If you start charigng your bomb after the grevaer already saw you nothing can save you.
Also, as a 4*, I assume you dont have max CTR. Everything will be easier at 5* (or with crt trinekts/UVs)

greavers

I don't have a great answer to your question, as I'm not an expert bomber, but here are a couple of remarks that might give you ideas:

There's a video on YouTube of somebody Nitronoming greavers. But Nitronome has a lot of knockback, so that the user maintains some breathing room at all times. I don't know Irontech Destroyer well.

When I use swords, it's easy for me to exploit greavers' simple attack pattern. For example, I enter a room and greavers spawn. I retreat to the hallway, so that they are forced to attack from a single direction. I can hit all of them at once, keeping them interrupted until they die.

try faster bombs like

try faster bombs like nitronome or dark briar barrage, those bombs that you use are slow + it decrease your movement speed quite significantly...slow attack + slow movement = bad for fighting fast close range biting mobs

all bombers...

like myself atleast should have a side arm.....
i personally would recommend AP because it's fast, nimble and it takes out most turrets(unless OOO decides to make Beast/gremilins turrets, we are all [bucked])

or Pulsar if you don't mind everyone yelling at you
or any elemental gun, but then that my opinion you don't need to follow

unless you want to be the 'old me', the stubborn and 'iwillforeverbeapurebomber' get DBB and a shadow sheild and do the following:
wait for dive, sheild bumb greavers, charge DBB, BOOM!, rinse and repeat.

or the RSS could work cause stuns slows them down(put i haven't test this yet (but im soon to find out (after getting a few more CE))).

but anyhow i would seriously recommend getting a sidearm..... you can never know when you are trap in a conner being face mashed sencelessly.

good luck and enjoy bombing

Irontech's longer fuse leaves you extremely vulnerable against greavers, same with vortex' longer charge time. Provided Irontech is capable of killing greavers in a single bomb, and I'm not entirely sure it is, you might be able to plant one down in advance and run inside the radius to lure them. It's possible to avoid greaver by running in a tight circle. Possible, but not very easy.

You may want to bring a sidearm for fiend levels in particular. Consider one of the following:
-Blaster. Versatile and easy to use, but will struggle if there are many greavers at once.
-Calibur. Versatile and easy to use, no real drawbacks.
-Troika. Wide range. You will never want for anti-greaver weaponry again, but will not help much against devilites.
-Thorn blade is excellent against all fiends.
-Spine Cone is pretty much the best bomb against greavers.
-Sun Shards can be used. It's tricky, but the payoff for mastering it is lots of stun-distribution.
