Here is my theory on the creation of cradle (fan fictions only, don’t take the plot holes and horrible grammar seriously):
Billions of years ago, a cloud of energy (mist) was gathered somewhere in the universe, eventually this sphere of pure mist energy GAINED CONSIOUSNESS. It begin to think, and like air, which defuses into the space which is available to it through diffusion, this sphere of energy also wanted to spread its essence across the universe in another word, this sphere of energy wanna conquer the universe...

But, fortunately, for the rest of us in the universe, this massive sphere of energy can't move very well. So it begins to materialize layers of earth around it and created a planet (AKA cradle), and this sphere of energy manifests itself into an entity, he called himself-INCEPTRON, and he became a self-proclaimed god to his first creation(like Adam and Eve). But only this time, he created the Almirians, INCEPTRON taught Almirians how to build and craft, in return they worshiped INCEPTRON like a God. But that changed when INCEPTRON requested Almirians to conquer the nearby planets and wipe out their inhabitants. Against their creator’s will, Almirians rebelled and challenged INCEPTRON's authority as a God. INCEPTRON was pissed, as punishment, he created the SWARM, the harvester of knowledge and memories (those black stuff in the shadow layer). INCEPTRON used the SWARM to consume the Almirians and the cities which they lived in, luckily FSC was not severely damaged, but the perish of the almirian legion consumed Vanaduke with guilt; this is probably the reason why he attacked anything that entered his chamber. (He might mistake SKs as SWARM seeds due to his severe delusion)

With his first creation ended up in failure, INCEPTRON decided to create many new species to populate the planet (jellies, wolvers and so on). And for each time a specie reaches the peak of its civilization( jelly king, snarby are the examples of successful evolution), INCEPTRON harvests their knowledge and invention using the all-consuming might of the SWARM and SWARM is able to fabricate and replicate anything it consumed( thus explaining all those void enemies in shadow lair). But still some of those creatures are PRESERVED to serve as a trophy and a comparison with his other creations (ice queen, rabid snarby).

INCEPTRON now uses the harvested knowledge to create better creatures and hoping one day he can create a species that can truly help him to rule the universe. Currently, his latest project is the Gremlins, and INCEPTRON appointed one of its most talented engineer-tinkinzar to be the “architect” and ordered tinkinzar and his people to build the unbuildable, an orbital starship fleet. During the construction, many gremlins died of exhaustion and accidents in the workshop; cannot bear to see his people suffer. Tinkinzar decided to seal INCEPTRON into the deepest part of cradle through making layers and layers of energy absorbing metal barriers. They made 30 (ish) layers of it in hope that INCEPTRON will never ever escape (since every time he tried to break the barrier, a part of his own body is absorbed in to the barrier). And on the top of that, Tinkinzar blocked the final level all of the four elevators with a monster guardian ( shadow lair ) to deter even the bravest of the adventurers( not SK at least ). But Tinkinzar was proven unpopular after he called in a re-renovation of levels of cradles, but he managed to silence his opposition thanks to his crimson order. He reckons that he needs to rule the cradle with an iron fist (thus making him no better than INCEPTRON) to prevent a great evil.

One day, at his solitude, INCEPTRON sensed a surge in energy in the deep space and he realized that SKs are coming into orbit with a space ship (skylark), he realized that only SK have what it takes to break him out of the prisons, he sent an energy surge into space and led to a meltdown of the tearium reactor of the ship engine, yep, our crash landing was not a coincident, it was staged by INCEPTRON all along. And once when enough CEs are deposited into the sanctuary alchemy machine, INCEPTRON will have enough energy to break out and kill us all with his army of SWARM seeds and void creations.

-----INCEPTRON can be the ENDGAME boss for those pros who wants a challenge. He should be the hardest boss in the game, as the best of the SKs confront him in a final battle in the core to decide the fate of this planet.

Actually your theory might be true but in one of the missions it was said that the planet was created with different parts of other planets you can add that if you want in your theory.

My theory is quite different.

There were many planets in the solar system(where today lies cradle) in one of these planets lived the terthorns. There king was a kind and humble man. The other kings of th other planets started to become jealous of them.So they declared war on him. The poor king and his army which were outnumbered lost the war. All the other kings imprisoned him in a jail known as cradle and each one of them put a piece of planet in cradle( explaining the jellies, wolvers and zombies) eventually war broke out between the other planets and they all died. Hence that is how cradle was formed and the different species found on them come from different planets of that specific solar system. And today the kning waits for his freedom in that jail with his humble yet strong army. To rule back on the planet which he lost. And the people who survived the galactic war came to haven including tinzinkar's father who died and tinzinkar became the king. These people now live in peace and harmony and do the job which was handed to them by their ancestors to prtect cradle with their lives and suddenly us knights come. And start killing them and reach near the core. But there is some kind of system which has locked it and the alpha squad found out the code and entered it.

o.0 wow, those are some crappy review i am getting...

well, like i said don't take this theory seriously, i never faught VANA( yeah, call me noob all u want... ) and english is not my first language( i spent alot of work on that essay u know ). The reason why i use cap on some of the words is coz i wanna highlight that word. And no shue, INCEPTRON is a bad guy( i can see that u are a grammar Nazi ), the voices u heard in the core is probably a series of INDOCTRINATION(mass effect all over again). Allowing knights to be addicted with going to the core and deposite CEs and make him strong.

And as for VANADUKE, i am sure he was a decent dude. (since he was a king(tyrant? IDK)) Who is probably corrupted by the SWARM( the curse theme) or by INCEPTRON's indoctrination. Yeah, he might be massive and evil looking but u can never judge someone by their appearance(in reality that is...).

The voices in the core can be from anything and anyone, who knows, even if they aren't the indoctrination administered by INCEPTRON. They are probably the souls of those who were consumed by INCEPTRON during the millions of years of "trials and errors" in order to create the perfect beings. And in those echo stone, the voices mainly begin their speech with "i dream". So here is my explanation to some of the stuff the echo stone said:
-"I saw it open the void, felt its endless hunger. "=INCEPTRON's swarm seeds and his urge to rule the universe( universe is endless(?) and so is his hunger for more planets), open the "void" is brobaly referring to INCEPTRON's ability the materialize anergy( that is how he created cradle )
-"Use what is here to prepare for the battle to come."=final showdown with INCEPTRON
-"It will find a way out and come for you."=yep, INCEPTRON is comming to get u
-"Hold dearly this fire in you, for darkness will consume all the night if its stars begin to fade."=here the "star" is referring to SKs( since it says earlier that we are like "STARS" fall down form the sky, it implies that when we are done for, INCEPTRON will have no opposition and he can rule cradle at will.
-"This world has become my prison."= This is probably INCEPTRON trying to indoctrinate u to believe that u are here to set somthing free
-"What it was before, it is no more. Neither beast nor god, it is a creation unlike all.It is... The Swarm."=here it confirmed the fact that SWARM is created by SOMETHING...and that something can be..well...INCEPTRON
- The "dream" that the voices are referring to is probably a place where people are not oppressed by those with power, an utopia where everyone is free(not). But the "dream" can only be achieved by defeating those with power( e.g INCEPTRON, VANA, TINKINZAR...). The souls(maybe they are essense of hope itself) are hoping that one day cradle can be freed of its rulers and be reigned by the SKs( who are, less evil, i guess... )

-my final word:
This teory serves as a cliffhanger for all that happend on cradle, the purest thing in this world( the core) is actually the almighty INCEPTRON himself. Gremlin turns out to be the good guys that sealed this evil for centuries and we are nothing but butthurt idiots who trys to find the truth but at the end stumbled upon something we cannot handle...

And Toxicbalde, just u know. INCEPTRON does sounds like a transformer, but think about it, transformers lived on a planet which can also transform( cybertron can transform into a massive robot if u didn't notice ). And samething here, we lived on cradle wich was once upon a time a part INCEPTRON's body, and here INCEPTRON can do the same thing, once he escaped, he can transform matters back into apart of his body, he and the planet are one of the samething, killing him means killing cradle itself. Unless of course, a righteous hero rise up to the challenge and defeat INCEPTRON but in the same time inherit his energy and power (the cradle) and become the new INCEPTRON.

Man, there is enough lore here to write a whole novel....

Hm...

The constant capitilisation of certain words draws attention away from everything else. Also, for a theory, I find it odd how you know the name of the malevolent entity that presumably hides in the Core. A name which, as previously stated, sounds like a Transformer. Also, several of your points, as people here have pointed out, clash with the game's lore. While I can't call your analysis of the Echo Stones "wrong", I do notice that you refer to them at one point to be "Inceptron's" indoctrination. Why would he/she/it want to dissuade the Knights from freeing him from the Core? He calls it his prison, in an attempt to get you to free him, then says that he'll kill everything if he's set free. For a God, he sounds mentally unstable. Or very, very stupid.

A better example of a theory would be that Strangers are actually Gremlin-controlled robot spies. They're friggin' tall for one, as are many of the Constructs, they never how their faces, and they're kinda creepy, with those weird, chirpy-mechanical voices.
