I found out what is causing the steam version of this game to break. When I replace the 32-bit java-vm with a 64-bit version it will prevent me from logging on with steam (only guest and normal account log in is available). This is quite annoying since I have always been playing with 64-bit java and now it's impossible for me to use it because the game will break. 32-bit version of Java gives both my gaming PC and laptop weaker than normal performance and 64-bit always gave a lot better performance (A lot less stutter/lagspiking issues and better framerate). Any way how to fix this log in bug?

Okay when I switched back to my system's build in 32-bit Java it INSTANTLY fixed the log in bug =_=. I thought I accidently deleted an important file but I guess that's not the problem. The game works perfectly with 32-bit java but it breaks the second you put a 64-bit vm in it. (The log in issue)

I hope this can be fixed soon because US servers are currently off limits for me now because of this problem (huge performance drops make US server even more dangerous for me)

UPDATING POST:

I have these issues on my 2 PCs btw I'll post the system specs here:

Laptop:

ASUS K55VD (Fully updated every program and BIOS)
Intel Core i5-3210M @2.50GHz (4 CPUs)
4GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000 + nVidia 610M (Using nVidia config screen to force java playing the game using the dedicated videocard)

Gaming/video editing PC:

Custom Build
Intel Core i7-2600K @3.80GHz (non-OC)
16GB RAM 1333MHz (non-OC)
GTX 570 HD 1.2GB GDDR3 RAM (non-OC)
Creative X-Fi Platinum

Extra notes:
- Latest videocard drivers are installed
- Everything of my dedicated gaming PC is updated to latest versions (motherboard drivers, soundcard etc)
- Everything related to my laptop model has been updated to the latest versions (drivers and software that is installed)
- Java is updated to the newest version (Java 7 Update 11)

EDIT: They fixed the problem ^^. It was an issue related to the steam client not to the game. (though this game is still glitchy as hell)

Just found out...

I didn't know about running spiral knights in 64-bit mode. This is great news for me, I just followed the instructions using this guide:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/62691

The current version I am using is Java 7 Update 6. I can login. Maybe its the latest version? I saw your post and thought I let you know in case this information helps. Hopefully they can fix the issue with the newest version of java.

Hmm.. that could be true but then why does the 32-bit version of Java 7 U11 work and the 64-bit doesn't? I had the same problem when I had Update 9 (was running 64-bit) installed, it worked all the time until sometime in January when Spiral Knights got updated and suddenly the log-in bug happened.

Hmm... quite possibly it's something with the newer versions of Java if U6 does work instead. I'll try out now.

EDIT: I just tested the game with U6 and Im still getting the same issue with 64-bit mode not working. (Log in bug appearing) Also I just noticed you didn't mention the Steam version of the game. I am running the Steam version the game and it causes trouble if you swap the java 32-bit vm with a 64-bit vm. (Like I said)

For the browser version of the game. If you want to run in 64-bit mode you need to use a 64-bit browser like Internet Explorer 64-bit otherwise you will be running in 32-bit mode ^^ You can easily check that by going into taskmanager and looking at java.exe. If it has a *32 behind it it means you are running 32-bit mode. 64-bit mode won't give anything at all there.

Maybe not Three Rings' fault?

Well, I was also running the Steam version of Spiral Knights using 64-bit Java. It was running fine earlier today (1/29/2013) until I rebooted my computer and Steam decided to update the client; it did not update any of the Spiral Knights files. After that, neither Spiral Knights nor Puzzle Pirates would recognize that I'm logging in via Steam. I suspect that the updated Steam client has a buggy authentication component that doesn't work with 64-bit Java.

A possible fix?

I managed to get my steam copy of Spiral Knights running again with 64-bit Java (1.7.0_11)! Maybe this will help you.

I think that what happened was that as the steam client is being updated somehow it becomes corrupt. What you would want to do to fix this is to follow the instructions listed in this Steam Support article: How to remove and refresh your Steam files. I double-checked afterwards and I was able to log-in to Spiral Knights with the 64-bit "java.exe" running in the Windows Task Manager.

Fix didn't worked

Have the very same problem...steam updated itself and steam login option is now gone.
Reinstalling steam didn't help. Nor using Java 6.
Login works with x86 Java, but performance sucks =_=

They fixed it :D

In the newest Steam patch there is this line written down:

- Fix launching 64-bit games and applications

I hope this will finally fix this issue :D Gonna test it now!

EDIT: They fixed it yes x3 Yay now I can finally play SK again in it's (full?) glory :3
