So, I'm trying to play SK. The moment I start, the game it crashes. I mean this even before the login screen. I see the blue outline of the window, and see that it's loading in the processes list, but the moment it'd appear it crashes. No crash popup either. I've used this same videocard (ATI x1600 pro) to run the game on a different computer (although, that was Win7 and this one's XP).
Instant crash
I've actually went as far as to switch video cards and reinstall everything again and it still doesn't work. Now I'm using an ATI9600, latest driver, all the trimmings and stuff. On the other PC, the game ran under both the 9600 and the x1600 (without me having to do anything, under win7) but on this one (XP, SP3 installed), both produce the same error.
I suspect it's not videocard related, since when that caused the crash, I usually got an error prompt.
It's a silly question, but is your Java up to date?
Sometimes the biggest problems are the most obvious!
Heh, when I said I reinstalled everything, I've meant it.
Could it be caused by not having enough space on the HDD? I doubt that, but looking at it now, I don't have much space left on that drive.
Are you using the Catalyst 6.12 driver marked as final for your graphics card? There seems to be something odd with that driver going on and an inability to run Spiral Knights.
If you have the additional Catalyst Control Center installed go to the 3D settings tab and make sure that the Catalyst A.I. is set to Standard.
If that does not work, users have reported success using the 10.2 drivers with the additional CCC and using that Catalyst A.I. setting.
