not sure which to pick. I'm mainly going to use the armor for missions that have piercing monsters, not all around good.

What do you hate the most? freeze or shock? Do you use swords?

I hate both of them, but

I hate both of them, but mostly shock. I use swords and guns 50/50. I also like to charge my swords

Mercurial is good, but Skolver is great

If you use swords, then Skolver (and Snarbolax, and Barbarous Thorn Shield, and damage trinkets) are great, because they give you blanket damage bonus: all six monster families, Vanaduke, and other knights in PvP. Such a blanket bonus cannot be replicated by any number of UVs. Of course, damage bonuses sometimes do not decrease your hits-to-kill at all, and hence have no practical value. However, sometimes they decrease your hits-to-kill dramatically (say, from 3 to 2), and hence have tremendous practical value.

In contrast, Mercurial is decent piercing armor with an interesting movement speed bonus that you will hardly notice.

Most swords don't benefit too much from movement speed, although most guns (all of the ones that let you move while shooting) benefit quite a bit from MSI. And of course, bombs benefit from MSI.

The MSI bonus you get is hardly noticable, but is still huge in what it allows you to do with it... even if that takes a lot of practice to notice.

Skolver will let your sword-charges do more damage, but Mercurial will let you easily avoid the enemy while you're charging your sword up.

I hear a lot of people say they don't notice the speed boost of Mercurial, and I legitimately don't understand them. The full set will let you dance around bullets and mecha knights with ease.

I've never used Mercurial myself. I was basing my opinion on talking to people (whom I trust) who have used it, and playing with them, and in one instance timing them. But if respectable sources say that this subtle speedup makes a big difference, I'll add it to my crafting list. Or maybe Mercurial Demo.

:c

i have the mercurial helm... i can't even notice i'm faster to the point where i think MSI is useless unless you have a lot more of it, which you can't.

on the other hand... skoalver is great! given my swords a damage bonus and killing s-*bleep* with more damage.

overall, the only times you will get shock/piercing is with quicksilvers and wolvers. Wolvers are a joke so you don't need protection from them really. quicksilvers on the other hand get a green ring around them before they go ballistic so you really want a shield that resists piercing and shock not armor.

From experience, quicksilvers

From experience, quicksilvers don't even deal pierce when they're flying around shocked - they deal elemental

" quicksilvers on the other hand get a green ring around them "

Proof that they deal elemental damage.

All the leaves are brown, and the skies are grey.....

@Troupe-forums: The shock deals elemental. The quicksilvers don't. They deal piercing.

Also, The MSI Is noticeable enough when you have the whole set. The shock protection comes in handy, and the piercing is pretty good as well. I prefer mercurial way over skolver, as mercurial is alot more helpful for dodging.

Thought I had while weaving between bullets in Candlestick:

People keep saying the 8% difference is not all that much with Mercurial. What they're not thinking about is that it's 8% difference between two knights next to eachother measured from a standpoint.

The relative difference compared to an enemy bullet is much higher.
