Currently I think the charge attack is completely useless right now and it should just be the sixth shot (the big shot). The main objective of the charged attack is to hit with the final shot but in most cases monsters will generally move out of the way themselves or be knocked away from fellow party members resulting in the final shot to be a complete miss.

I agree with meowreka, it's just one of the inherent disadvantages of the gun. Aside from that, my Silversix is pretty decent at what it does- clearing bushes and killing undead.
On a side note, I think guns need their range extended and damage boosted slightly (1-2 tiles +20-25% would be fine). If the goal was for guns to take things at range, there should be at least some guns that can match the range of gun puppies. But that's a topic that's been beaten to death elsewhere.
Get an Iron Slug or Callahan.
