One of the things that makes collecting damage numbers difficult is that monsters have varying levels of defense. This is most noticeable in Wolver Dens, where the Alpha Wolvers take less damage than their smaller brethren. Punching bags have very little defense. Danger Room monsters have more defense, as do higher tiered monsters.

Does anybody have an idea for measuring monster defense versus weapon damage?

huh?

Alpha wolvers take less damage than other wolvers? My impression (from many hours of collecting damage numbers, but I could be wrong) is that they take the same damage.

Alpha wolvers have more health than other wolvers, so more hits are required to kill them. Are you sure that you're not confusing more health with more damage protection?

Alpha wolvers in a den tend to be "tier'd up" similar to how monster in danger rooms are. Higher health, more damage resist. Ordinary alphas should take normal damage, though.

sorry, I don't understand

You're saying that alpha wolvers in most Clockworks levels have regular damage protections, but alpha wolvers in a wolver den are leveled up?

@Bopp and everyone

Yes, that's correct. Alphas in dens seem to take less damage. This is because they are from the next stratum.

Also to note, I think all gremlin menders take MORE damage to attacks then other gremlins.

Menders..

Have really low health, to my knowledge. There are times where I can 4-hit kill a thwacker and 2-hit a mender using the same weapon, in the same floor.

@Bopp
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Look at your damage numbers when fighting regular wolvers vs alphas in an arena in a wolver den next time, the alphas should be resistant.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Hmm, in tier one I noticed lumbers taking more damage and more ticks from fire....is this a coincidence?

Are you sure it's T1 only? or does it scale? (something like: 5 ticks at 1x dmg on T1, 4ticks at 0.8 dmg on T2, 3 ticks at 0.6 dmg on T3, to just pull numbers out of the ether). Were they poisoned? Any +construct dmg items equipped that you wouldn't wear in T2/3?

Edit: Also, make sure to use the same weapon, some have different strength of fire.

Fire Ticks are not affected by poison or family damage bonuses. It counts as environmental damage, not player damage. And statuses scale up through the tiers. Minor Shock and Fire deal more damage in later tiers than they do in earlier tiers. That's what makes status bombs so awesome.

.

The problem with statuses is that after a certain level of resistance, further reduction of status effect is not achievable. This is notable with the FoV, but I doubt can be noticed in Tier 1, as the statuses are very weak there. However, status-themed monsters seem to lack complete immunity as well-I've seen Frostifurs frozen to the ground due to the AoE freeze from an Ice Cube's death.
