I am trying to avoid going overboard with spiral knights playing, and so I am going to be crafting a lot in order to gain crowns. anyone know of any 1 star armor, helms, shields, or weapons that sell for 1000 or more crowns on the auction house?

Derp, tutorial missions already give almost perfect UVd T1 weapons.
You'll hardly find any profit with 1*
1000cr is not even that good considering mats used.

You're more likely to get consistent sells from 2* equipment. Stuff like Owlite shields actually sell pretty well. Magic set also works alright. If you are feeling gutsy, Wolver armor with good UV's will sell for a very pretty penny, much higher maximum than owlite/magic set. I personally like Brandishes because, unlike other weapons, they can become either Shadow or Elemental damage. Thus, you can sell 4 out of the 6 +dam vs monster family UV's for a decent price, yet still make a huge amount from ASI or even CTR. If you are feeling REALLY gutsy/lucky, I'd say make Flourishes. A Flourish with a very good ASI will probably sell for more than any other piece of equipment in the game.

If you want to profit with mist alone
Try getting a Trinket Slot Upgrade, it should at least give you enough money for 80ce even selling through AH, that would be at least a 30ce profit each login. Its price is dependent on the ce price though!
I would recommend bunch of popular mats, but the OP says that he won't be playing much and have to rely on crafting, so...

There are not many good 1 star weapons. The top three would be the fractured mask of Seerus, the hot edge and the static edge. If 2 star, choose a Wolver coat with a high shock ressistance, thos have high prices.

Most shards seem to do well, especially green and blue. Red also, light not so much, dark ones are down a bit from all the people doing kat levels I believe. Monster bones usually go pretty well. From what I've seen, FSC and RJP mats (gel stuff) don't sell well because everyone grinds those. Other beast level mats, like scales do well. And keep an eye out for people advertising that they are buying certain mats, sometimes people will pay more than you could get on the AH (and you avoid the 10% seller's fee, so you can match or undercut AH prices while still making more profit). Just make sure to check the AH for that type of mat before selling to make sure you don't get ripped off.

Profit- Priceless
Well a lot of people LOVE to play Tier 1 LD and there are not many Tier 1 weapons to choose from that can be used for LD. I'd say make Static Edges or Hot Edges. They give good dmg and status with the charge. Also, the price to sell them goes higher if you get a REALLY good crafting UV such as ASI or CTR. BUT there's a catch... they'll only sell for more than 1k if it has a crafting uv on it. so... kinda a risk there.
Then again, with the Operation Crimson Hammer mission out there for people to buy and play... it makes it more difficult. People usually use the 1* Unstable Rocket Hammer (I think that's what it's called) which gives elemental and unbelievable damage. Well.... that's my opinion from experience.
