ok, how the hay does wolver armor resist pierce and its made from wolver fur but a wolver is weak to pierce?

If you've ever seen a dog,
If you've ever seen a dog, you can reach its skin directly by just reaching through its fur.
However, when you make a coat out of material and fur, your not just sticking fur to your armor, you're actually making a protective layer between you and anything that may damage you.
When you wear a leather jacket and fall on a pin, does it hurt less?
