Two years ago I asked when will the Core be released?

SK staff: "Coming soon."

A year later I asked again because we got all this new stuff, but still no Core.

SK staff: "Coming soon."

It's a year later again, and still no Core.

That's not gonna satisfy me this time. I want details. I wanna know where it is in development, how close it is to completion, how close it is to being ready for Beta and for official release.

The Core doesn't have to be the end of SK. The Cradle isn't the only planet out there.

But isn't the whole point of the game to escape the planet?

You're crashlanded.

Now how does that work with new comers?

Protip: Learn to enjoy the toys you have right now. You may have high expectations about the things promised to and you'll be very very disappointed if they're not on par with what you expected. It'll be ready when it's ready. Until then, go grind Vana a bit more.

Duke Nukem Forever took 12

Duke Nukem Forever took 12 years and wasn't worth it. I'd rather have a crappy Core now than a somewhat crappy Core later.

What's with the obssesion of opening the core.

We can have new dungeons by missions, DLC or shadow lairs style.
We can make the story advance by finding the reactor Razwog had, killing the crimson order, finding out what the swarm is, etc.

We don't need to open it yet.

There is so much of the

There is so much of the storyline that should be explored before the core opens, in my opinion. Crimson Order, Razwog, The Swarm, Other Areas ON Cradle, etc. The Core doesn't need to be opened yet.

Keep in mind that (sort of) the storyline was expanded for this event.

Are you familiar with the idea that you should write your resignation letter before you accept a job offer?

The Core is exactly that. The time SK comes to an end, the Core will open and the Spiral Order will power up the Skylark and travel to next destination.

This is actually a pretty thoughtful concept.

Okay. I lurk on this forum

Okay.

I lurk on this forum often, and quite frankly, i'm sick of seeing people saying the core is the end. There is a model of the core's hatch open, in SK's files. This has already been stated multiple times.

Now this model has been there for a long time. You know what also was in the files for a long time?

Kat hats.

So going by that logic, you are incorrect. I mean honestly, who would pay an employee to make an art asset, then never do anything with it? Most probably, it will open sometime in the future. You're just saying "Oh, it can't open, that'd be the end" Because you don't want this great MMO to end, aren't you?

But i can tell you for certain, it won't end when the core opens;

BECAUSE PLOT TWISTS. HAVE YOU HEARD OF THOSE?

ASK YOURSELF!

It's still endgame.

What you're building up to.

Think about it. How would this work with missions or newbies.

I mean, some guy could spoil it.

Or if there's a destroyed haven, how would that work?

Or then, if like the core IS opened, then what?

Plot twists like what?

Stuff. :D

1- Yes, some guy could also spoil the swarm, the recon modules, and the echo stones to a newbie, including how the shadow lairs are the hardest set of dungeons in the game. There is no avoiding this. Why are you bringing this up? Bit of a silly question, if you ask me. SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE

2- If the plot ends up getting a destroyed haven, simply have it as as a seperate instance, like rescue camp. Then have you can get back to "rebuilt" haven after the next pair of missions.

3- Well, plot? I'm not the one writing the story here, there are quite a lot of things that could happen. The swarm could enter, and corrupt the core, for instance. Or there's a chance it's ALREADY corrupt, because the swarm was nearly at the core at the time the alpha squad entered the core. But seriously, how am i supposed to know?

And about you mentioning endgame..
It's not rare to see a game come up with new content, and simply move the current endgame to that, and have what was previously endgame be pre-endgame. It's not like it'd hurt anyone severely.
And plot twists..
Well, i've already mentioned two previously, at 3.
There could be many more, depending on where the writer wants to take this story.

No, opening the core does not necessarily end the game

But it does end something. That something is the current main plot. Once the alpha squad/energy in the core debacle is cleared up, you can expect the knights to be given another always-in-the-background-plot-important task. There may as well be a plot twist (Alpha Squad has become corrupted, save them; Energy in core can't be retrieved without destroying Haven, find alternative solution/just take it and run; can't leave Haven until you finish the fight; etc) but that's a story to be told another day...preferably after the core opens.

Basically, no one can prove the game will end by opening the core, but you can't say it'll continue either.
Discussing this leads to nowhere.

He's implying that vanguards discriminate against lower-mission-rank players.

In a currently fictional instance of haven in a fictional mission that would most probably be vanguards only, if it were to exist.

Why? When we discover the

Why? When we discover the core - there goes all the mystery of this place.

And also, likely, there goes a lot of potential content.

Just enjoy the game and let developers develop - not to mention, typically things that are rushed end up not nearly as good as they could have been. Why do you want everything tomorrow? "but they had 2 years herrrrrrrrrp" No. They haven't been working on the one thing that YOU want for 2 years. As you can see, they are still working on battle sprites, so you will not get what you want - they have a schedule planned around the game rather than our wants.

Opening the Core means SK will end. But this does not prevent launching of a sequel or other related SK titles.

You hand in your resignation letter doesn't mean end of your life. It could mean working in another company.

Well

A - The Core may have an inner giant maze.
B - The Core entity, if evil, may generate illusory dungeons and play with our space-time sense while being under his/her energy aura.
C - The Swarm could form a barrier in the entrance of the Core and we would need to dispel/traverse it while they corrupt the Core.

And that is considering possibilities with the Core opening, really fast.

Meh we dont have enought content and you already ask for the core? seriously?

anyway dont get your expectatives UP, OOO will only give us smalls updates and occasionally "some interesting" content (like battle sprite) then they will go and wait to see how much $ they get with their little lack content update and keep funding and adding stuff to their AWESOME puzzle game Dr Who Worlds. basically Spiral Knights its only their Gold Mine to fund that puzzle game :c

I'm furious about this, the core is just an steam-exclusive dlc that you must pay the key for about mere 3600 CE.

> Opening the Core means SK will end

Not exactly, it seems like nobody here ever heard of plot twists... Just because the knights think that their adventure is going to end once they open the Core, it doesn't mean that it will happen. õ_õ
A few examples: The core can't power up their spaceship, so they stay in Cradle trying to find another way out (this way they can even explore more of Cradle's culture and history); They power up their spaceship, go back to their planet but still come back to Cradle for further exploration, this time more prepared (and with it we get a new planet to explore, while keeping good old Cradle; They power up their spaceship, go back to their home planet and the new knights would do the old missions in some kind of VR training, only being able to explore the new planet when they finish it. And the list could go on and on in an almost infinite ways, seriously I'm not even a professional nor anything close to that and can come up with various ways for the game to continue, I still can't believe that you guys have a faith that low on the SK's scriptwriter after he made such an awesome plot.

@Aumir: That's just filler. To some players, it'll be the equivalent of putting a 30 minute delay on them eventually reaching the "true" core. The problem is what happens after. We'll need an arbitrary reason to stay (Even then the things you've listed are a touch arbitrary and random).

I'm still an advocate for other means to find content. Still want to face down Herex more than the core opened. Tinkinzar is also another potentially fun fight.
