Selling Vials!

The principal ideal behind all this is to make Pickups more useful.
Can you imagine all those times when you just finished a mission with all those Vials and nothing to do with them, even with Pills, Mecha Knight Kits, Remedies or Vitapods?

I want to suggest a machine beside the Arsenal station and Elevator of every level, or an Npc instead, with which you deposit the Pickups that you don't want to carry with you and gain Crowns from selling them there, instead of just dropping them or using them just to clear the spaces of your Belt (even for doing the classic "Fireworks" at the Elevator at the end of a mission).

I also have some ideas for the prices: as I'm checking out Moorcroft Manor right now, I can see the buying price for Super Shock, Poison, and Freeze Vials is 150 Crowns from Estavio, taking that as an example, I think the selling price for Super Vials should be between the range of 30 to 50 Crowns, Vials would give you 10 to 20, and Ultra Vials between 75 and 100.
Mecha Knights would worth 100 to 150 Crowns.
Remedies: ~50 Crowns.
Health capsule 20, Super Capsule ~60, and Ultra Capsule ~150 Crowns.
And lastly, Vitapods would give you 10 Crowns for each health unit they represent.

I wanted to make this topic to discuss the prices with the community (I've only given those out because I thought those would be fair, but I still think they are a bit high), as well as to see how all of you would respond to the idea. I hope you like it, and thanks for reading.

Too much in my opinion.

^ It would be too easy to get a ton of money with this as you can go back and pickup all vials and it would easily get you 1k crowns on levels where you only get 600 crowns, and the vitapods... theyre worthless after a mission so you should only be able to sell these while in the arcade... and not in terminals. maybe if you divided all prices with 5 they would be a little more balanced.

On second thought.

Actually I was thinking about making the selling price as low as 10% to 33% too, lower than 10% would be okay, but almost worthless, and more than 33% I think would imbalance some things. I went there for the 33% at first, but it still feels like a lot.

-Edit.-

I didn't specify this, but you would only be able to sell everything within the arcade, not at the AH or to other players, and when you finish a mission or go back to Haven, you lose all the pickups you didn't sell, and that's why the Vitapods gain some value there. Also, you don't need to get to the Terminals to sell, I meant you can sell them at every level.

You can also craft super vials...

You can make a stun vial more stunny by alcehming 2 useless stun vials together...
at that same machine thing your talking about.

I thought about something like that too, but as Svanto's already mentioned, it would be kind of abused if not implemented right.
My suggestion for this is make it so you can only sell them at the hubs (Moorcroft, Emeberlight, and the Core). That way if you decided to save your vials from the previous floors, you can sell them off instead of just having them poof into oblivion. It would bring a little more use to the Arcade since you could technically make more money if you don't use the vials.
You could even expand on it more by making it so that the vials from the earlier depths are worth even more further down. So if you save a vial from the first two stratum and take them all the way down to Emberlight or even the Core, they'll be worth quite a pretty penny.

Or if the prospect of introducing more Crowns is too taboo, you could go with Vlad's idea or make it so that there's a NPC who would upgrade your vials to the next level at the hubs.

No more crowns

The more money you can get the less its worth duh
selling vials should not be an option, depositing them might make it to easy - so no

Welll....

Some people are saying selling them isn't an option because you can pickup and sell all of them.

What about allowing you to only sell them to Basil and NPCs in Moorcroft and Emberlight? Then the only time you can do it is when you are in safe levels.

What Quakeman said

What gets me isn't that vial-selling would make more money and inflation and blahblah. It's that people would feel obligated to haul every goddamn vial they see to party-plates to get the maximum profit from their mist and not backtracking for vials forever would be a net loss.

We don't need less reason to use our vials nothankyousirgoodday.

We've pretty much established that the OP's original idea of the machine on every level would be kind of broken. The idea of being able to sell them to Basil or another NPC at Moorcroft, Emberlight and the Core would be much better.

@Zeddy
Most players that I've played with haul around every single vial anyways, even without an added reason to hold onto them. All throughout the Black Kat event, every time I'd reach the end of the mission, the party I was with would throw every vial they had in celebration.
I agree that we don't need less reason to hoard the vials. (I personally never use them just so I don't keep getting them on the prize wheels.) But we need more incentive to use them as well. Right now they're good if you want to inflict a certain status, but it relies on the random number gods to give you the ones that you really want. Honestly the only vials I ever use are the Poison and Curse vials for healing enemies. The other ones are a bit lackluster in my opinion, especially since nearly every weapon in the game has some status associated with it.
So why use vials in the first place?
If they packed a bit more punch to them, it would make this idea much more viable, since you're denying yourself from using an actual useful item just for a little more profit. So buff vials first, then we can add this.

Good Idea to Toss Up

To all of you saying that you could sell vials and then backtrack to collect all the other ones, or haul them to party buttons, what if one of the one-way walls (Such as the ones at the beginnings of levels with arsenal stations) was implemented just before elevators? Or, as some people are saying, just have the vendors/machines at the hubs such as Basil and Moorcroft.

I also like the idea of being able to upgrade vials as you progress through the arcade, but perhaps some more specifics should be made regarding the required materials, costs, and what the upgrades actually do. We don't want anything overpowered or overpriced.

I would be happy with just a small bonus for vials and mechaknights etc, even if it's just 5cr apiece. I agree that vitapods should be worth more with more health units, and I think 10cr per unit seems reasonable.

But I have doubts as to if this would be implemented because vials aren't SUPPOSED to be worth much, they're just a little extra thing while you go about your business that you can acquire and are useful.

The only thing that matters is making money. Gameplay is not important. In fact, they should remove all content from the game except costumes, accessories, and a magic button that you smash your face on that automatically trades both kinds of energy for crowns. Your screen will only show your costume setup that you can mix and match all you want until your eyeballs implode. No one will need actual weapons, shields, or armor anymore because all of that also becomes crowns to buy your next prettiest pink dress with all the frills that can possibly be on one item of clothing at a time without destroying the universe. Once you collect all the pink panties and transparent bras available in this game your knight and all their items are automatically deleted, your computer blocked from ever accessing the game again, and at least four hitmen are already on their way to complete your Spiral Knights experience.

On top of spaghetti.
All covered in bees.
Stop dumbing this game down.
I will eat your knees.

Have you tried tossing a stun vial before? It's like a little BAB you can throw. Maybe other vials could have similar additional effects as a buff?

That or just boost their radius.

@Zeddy
I admit that the stun vial is actually pretty powerful, especially since it works on every enemy regardless of their type. They're also the most frequent vial I find, which is kind of helpful. Also, that reminds me of something. Is there a set rarity on some vials? It seems curse vials are pretty rare compared to the others and stun vials are the most easy to find.

Now that radius increase is something I can really get behind. Whenever I actually feel I need to make use of the vials, they can never quite hit enough enemies since they usually just hit the enemy in front and maybe one behind due to the way most enemies follow and track you. They're made to cripple enemies if you're in a tight situation, but just hitting one or two rarely does much.

@Luguiru
Most of us still care about the gameplay, Lug. :P Though it is sad that I can't really say "all" of us...
What's your opinion on the vials, by the way? Are they a little too weak or just right?

So that's how you search for stuff on this forum through google! I kind of feel like an idiot for not knowing you can narrow down the search to a single site like that...
Anyways, thanks Hex! Still, I'm not sure how to feel necro'ing since so many threads are months, if not years old by now.

I'm just showing that this idea has been discussed to death. Being able to sell vials and pills would just promote not using them even more. Not to mention, since when you sell items, only you get the crowns, (instead of being shared around the party) everytime a vial dropped, it would be a mad, bloody, and gory dash to pick it up.

-1 For this idea in general

The only place that would be a good place for selling your vials is the places where you really need them... Nowhere...

This needs to be balanced

Vials and capsule and vitapod selling...overall needs to make less money than mineral selling. OOO doesnt want players to be able to farm money, that just crashes the economy, and the CE prices go up. Every little change that you make to the average crown payout is going to happen to the crystal energy prices. This could happen, just make the crown payout incredibly low.
