As Golgomath says, it would help us to know what kind of enemies you want to fight, and what kinds of weapons you want to use.
Enemies: Read the wiki pages "Damage" and "Status effect" to learn the four damage types and seven status types, and which monsters inflict them. Generally speaking, the most important statuses to protect against are probably shock and freeze, followed by fire. The most important damages are normal, then elemental and shadow, and finally piercing. If you're looking for a single, general-purpose set, then consider Divine Veil with Skolver Coat.
Offense: In the deep parts of the Clockworks, even the strongest armor lets through tons of damage. To stay alive, you must wait for openings, shield, dodge, and generally avoid getting hit, using your detailed knowledge of the monster AI. Once you know how to do that, you are going to favor armor pieces that give offensive bonuses, even if they offer slightly weaker defense. This is why people tend to go for the Wolver, Gunslinger, and Demo lines, and Chaos Cloak/Cowl, Perfect Mask of Seerus, and kat helmets. It's also why sworders go for Barbarous Thorn Shield and gunners (and some bombers and sworders) go for Swiftstrike Buckler.
I'd recommend a great general purpose combo that is Skolver Coat and Divine Veil. It means you have resistance towards all damage types. Take into account, however, that Skolver Coat is not very good for Firestorm Citadel, in which you might spend a ton of time if you wanna be as profitable as possible with your mist in the end-game. As for your weapons, I recommend turning that Cutter into Dread Venom Striker for a good general purpose weapon and making a Blitz Needle out of that Autogun, unless you are a cool kid like Zeddy, who got a Volcanic Pepperbox instead.
it doesn't matter what path you choose I use skolver armor for FSC all the time.
What matters is skill and if you dont have that then with wolver go vogand do devine on your hood and try to get a fire med uv on of one of those.
it will help ALOT for weps thats your prefrence for lol's i use all the regular freeze weps in the game which is hail driver, Shivermist buster, and Glacius.
so remeber this is a game have fun ^-^
Go with divine veil and skolver coat, it has defense for each damage type and would still look great.
Well, it depends a lot on what you are fighting or what you want to do. Can you give details?
