The shadowsun offers poison defense, not penalty, there is also a curse penalty which is not found on the set.
It also gives Damage medium.
The deadshot gives undead med and ASI on guns low.

Did the set use to give poison and curse penalties? 'cause that's pretty interesting if it did.

Yes, those sets were weaker, until they were buffed sometime last year (along with Dread Skelly and maybe some others that I forget). The guide was written and abandoned before that buff.
