I think that the team at Spiral knights should allow you to pays crowns to refill your mist tank to a certain amount anytime you want. I know that there are mist tanks, but those are very few and expensive. As for not making sense, (With having to collect mist energy over time in your tank, as said in the beginning of the game) there could simply be a NPC who pumps mist from a location in the ground, or something along the lines of that. Just buying crystal energy would not be the same thing, because I'm talking about refilling your mist tank when it's at 53%, or a random number like that, so it would give you only what you need and cheaper than buying 100 crystal energy. I hope Spiral Knights at the very least reads this thread.

Energy demand will lower, prices will rise. You migth be able to pay for elevators, but crafting anythign higher than 2* would be harder.
Buy 500 CE, put into Mist tank, withdraw as needed, repeat.
