Now most of you reading this may think that this is a dumb idea, as most people who sign in through Steam are currently on Windows. I am in the process of switching over to Ubuntu, a Linux distribution, and SK is not currently supported on Steam for Linux. But, I did notice how you can download a client or play on the web regardless of your OS. I also noticed how you can sign in on this website through Steam, but you can't do that in game unless you are running SK through Steam?
I realize SK will eventually be compatible for Linux on Steam, but this could take a little bit of time, as you have to specify where your JVM (Java Virtual Machine) is located at when you install the game, and a few other minor things similar to this. So, I was thinking of just adding a "Sign in through Steam" button regardless of if you are running SK through Steam or not.
Normally, I would just be patient and wait for the game to run on Linux, as it also runs on Mac, and my dad has a Mac book Pro. But, since SK uses a relatively new version of LWJGL, it doesn't work OS X 10.7.5... Not that it is really SK's fault on that one, though, as I could just get an earlier version of Java on my dad's laptop and that would fix it, but he doesn't like it when I have to download things on his computer.
So, if you think this is a good idea or a bad idea, please tell me why. Or if this is a re-post, I'm sorry I didn't search hard enough for this post.
Edit: Any feedback would be appreciated.
Edit #2: I did find out how to get the username for your account, but as for getting your password, you cannot.
Your spiral knights username will look something similar to:
steam:12345678901234567890
And because using the same password as your steam account would be a HUGE security flaw, the only way to get your password would be through the password recovery, which doesn't allow you to use symbols (':') in your name. But it does make sense, since Spiral Knights probably has a secure log in method which most likely generated a password when you first sign in through Steam. And to change that password would most likely screw up the log in through Steam option.
I think you can do this. Not sure how, but I think you can.
