Pretty self-explanatory. Drupal is absolute garbage, and that's without trying to shoehorn it into a forum. I just lost a long, well-written suggestion post because the session timed out and the forum software prevents Firefox from restoring text.

Right now, you don't deserve my feedback. You don't deserve to have a forum community if this is the best you can do.

I actually agree. LMAO

I had a post in my economy thread that was long and well thought out. It timed out and I lost it.. so I had to write up cliff-notes. Angering.

I often have forum issues.

I often have forum issues. Upon logging in, takes about a minute for it to register that I have done so in the forums, so I cannot reply / see which threads I have or haven't read for an extended period of time. Shouldn't this be instant once I log in?

Also Mark as Read works when it wants to, still haven't figured out why. On a similar note threads don't show up as new with a star on the folder, even when there are new posts sometimes, and I have to rely on looking at how long it has been since the last post to decide whether or not I have read it.

Also not being able to sort through my own posts and retrieve them is annoying, especially in places like the bazaar where there are threads constantly being updated and replied to and created. It is so easy to lose a thread you have made. Often I find myself recreating it, which just makes matters worse for the forums.

These seem petty, but it's the simple things that make it the most annoying. Things are not working as intended for sure.

I agree with this, I think the forums need more structure and probably a new host or software or whatever it is.

I'm just going to bookmark this thread and bump it every time I have a shiny, new, constructive suggestion that I haven't seen posted before. Well, I had another one today, but you won't see it. Oh well.

If you have Firefox, get the Lazarus plugin, it auto-saves any forum posts/form entries and lets you restore them instantly. Very handy.

Sadly, I have to agree that this is the worst forum software that I've used in ages. I have also lost posts (and didn't bother retyping them.)

Worst forum ever

And I've seen some pretty bad ones, too. I mean the Puzzle Pirates forums aren't great, but they're a lot better than this garbage.

Puzzle pirates forums were heaven compared to this.

Maybe the devs dont read the forums as much andlisten to ideas because theyre sick of them themselves.. Either that or they just dont care.
Forums are the least of the problems so far, but if they are going to focus on minor annoyances instead of serious probs, why not fix the forums first.

I have already started a topic on this, but I'll let it slide it's far too far back there to bump. Yes, this forum softeware MUST go.

OOO try PHPBB, Runic Games uses it and it works quite well, or you could just use Vbulletin, but yah SOMETHING OTHER THEN THIS CRAP.

Here's a few things I'd like

Here's a few things I'd like to see, in addition to what was said above:

- ability to click on a user's name and private message him and see all his posts;
- signatures, avatar pictures, and post counts for each user;
- a better search function - maybe this is just me, but every time I search for something the same "let's lower the price of energy" threads come up, and I know this happened to others too who searched for completely unrelated terms. I tried quotes, no quotes, nothing seems to help. I think the search algorithm just isn't very bright.

Bumping this. The fact that topics which have been moved get bumped in the forums they have been moved from is really, really annoying, and defeats the purpose of moving it in the first place. I think.

I hereby revive this thread

I hereby revive this thread with my biggest complaint about the forum; it bothers and hinders me very much that I am unable to see when and on what topic I commented on. I have to bookmark them or search them to be able to see what has been said after I have replied!

Not only does this hinder my ability to discuss swiftly and well, it is also annoying to look them up each time!

@GodofSkype1

I use the CS Lite extension to manage cookies in FF. I'm 99.9% sure that any cookie problems I have are the result of a developer slamming his penis in a car door repeatedly, recording his screams, changing the recording's file extension to .php, and calling the result Drupal.

Some days I don't even check these forums, simply because I don't feel like logging in again.

Mhm...

I would only like 3 things added to the forums. Smilies, quoting(WTF, NO QUOTING!?), and a signature. But honestly what the hell is this Drupal thing under the preview button? =_=

Going to add my voice to the chorus

Please, please, please fix or replace this forum engine. Other posters in this thread have mentioned several good ones. I guess some people dislike phpBB, but that would be the standard choice, and some of the largest communities on the internet (including the Ars Technica forums) use it.

If you won't/can't/don't want to use an excellent off-the-shelf solution like phpBB, could you PLEASE at least implement

  • Quoting
  • Smilies
  • "Threads I've Posted In" Feature
  • A better login system

I am also greatly annoyed by our inability to customise pretty much anything on this forum.

No quotes, one must always preview before saving, replying doesn't quote the person whom you wish to reply to, there's no personal messaging system, no avatars, no signatures.

For god's sake its not like im asking you to pull a maplestory and display my characters or stats but at least have the basics that have been around for more than half a decade.

OOO is clearly not great on communicational standards because in-game chat sucks also.

The forums do have their

The forums do have their advantages in their current configuration: they're pretty fast, they're clean and uncluttered and...um...

I for one am fine with not having sigs; you can very easily end up with enormous, bloated, paragraph-long text sigs, and once you've got sigs at all you get people clamouring for image sigs, and once that happens it's all gone wrong. Avatars would be nice, but are hardly essential.

But the lack of quotes, thread following or comprehensive searching, forced preview before posting...it's all an unnecessary hassle. I second the recommendation for phpBB; it's quick, highly customisable at the server end, robust and functional.
