Hey guys! Styrka here.

So, as the title suggests, I am curious as to what the strongest of shields is. Now, of course, strong is a relative term, because there are different attacks to block. In terms of just raw longevity, however, what is the best shield? A super buff shield is important for Bombers, I find, as I am often dropping irontech bombs and then shield immediately as to not get gnawed upon by those pesky slag walkers.

Anyhoo, I figure that the tankiest shield might be the Ancient Plate Shield, the Volcanic Plate Shield or the Omega Shell. Please let me know your experience with shields so I can figure out which one would work best for me when I'm bombing away happily rather than zipping about with my magnus and swiftstrike buckler.

Plate Shields are generally best at tanking, due to their high normal defence and large amounts of health.
Ancient Plate is basically a worse version of Volcanic. They are identical except for a) the fact that Ancient lacks Volcanic's fire resistance and b) Ancient can only be obtained with Almirian Seals. Omega Shell has mediocre normal defence, but an awful lot of health. Unfortunately, it doesn't work out as well in practice as it does on paper, due to the lack of status resistances.
Other than that I can only really say that it would depend on what you're fighting... but of the three you'd mentioned, I would rather have the VPS than either of the other two shields.

I've been told that Omega

I've been told that Omega Shell is the best shield if you're expecting multiple damage types, even better than Ancient Plate.

Omega Shell

Omega shell: tanks well, looks awesome. When bombing, you shouldn't really be getting hit by lumbers/trojans, so stun res is out of the question. The omega shell should have the same, or better, normal defense than the plate set and has more health. As a bomber I find ranged attacks the hardest to deal with, which do NO normal damage, so health is primary. Guess who wins there? Omega shell.

My lopsided opinion has nothing to do with the fact that I love the omega shell's look, and that I feel like super-turtle with it and my chaos set (which does not contradict itself in the slightest).

I haven't tried Omega Shell yet, but from my experience, Ancient Plate has even more normal defence than Volcanic Plate. This makes it capable of soaking up a whole lot of Trojan hits.

Yeah I got the Stone Tortoise

Yeah I got the Stone Tortoise purely to complement my "Bowser" look, and only much later heard about its true usefulness.

Also I like to collect "tanking" gear. Anything with ridiculous offense or defense like ancient plate set or Big Angry Bomb, regardless of how truly it useful it is.

Huh.

I was under the impression that Volcanic and Plate both had identical normal damage defence; then again, I guess those defence bars are misleading... again...

hmmm.

I gonna vote for omega ,sure its normal defense is lower then AP but try look at enemies that deal pure special or split dmg AP with start to tick till broken but omega will tick too but can last longer with its health advantage. If lucky got UV normal defense high or max it surpass AP a lot more.

Got my AP to change it with agesis(also lazy to get recipe and energy and material) since trojy smash can yellow my agesis while my AP just about to turn green barely,2nd time it getting yellow,3rd time...not sure because i already kill the trojy by that time.

@ batabi could you go to FSC test how many hits your omega can hold trojy? :>

@Hariender

Why don't you ask ME to run tests to see how many hits omega shell can tank?

While we're at it, see if it

While we're at it, see if it truly does push enemies further than, say, BTS.
