Welp, that.
Sometimes, when navigating the Clockworks, I find that certain attacks are absurdingly strong. Way stronger than what they should be, or what they actually just were.

For example, a Mecha Knight charge usually leaves my shield in orange and pushes me away. Maybe break it, and deal a little damage. Two days ago, a Mecha Knight (depth 22) charged, broke my full shield and took nearly half of my health away.
And sometime ago, I was just chillin' at depth 28, where wild Lumbers just break shields to [screw] around with you, and suddenly, a Lumber attack broke my full shield, froze me, stunned me, and left me with half a pipe of health. From full, this is, a 18 Vitapod + Skolver set. Break a full shield, and then take away over 25 health pipes?

Or is it just me?

It's normal assuming you have non-matching shield. I think grey owlite shield could hold the mecha knight attack except the freeze ones. Their charge attack is pure elemental, so it will hurt you for sure (the normal slash is half elemental + half normal though).
Let's just say this, if you look up wiki, and you saw normal, elemental, stun, fire symbol on lumber smash attack. Pretty much your shield will screw up if you don't have any defense on most of these.

No such things as critical hits exist. What shield are you using? My fully heated, non-uv'd swiftstrike can take a slam from vana's mace and only leave me with the status, absorbing all the damage. My fully heated CoA, before I rolled normal high on it, could take a hit from vana's mace and remain with a small amount of health. (now it can take 2 consecutive hits and leave me with status on the second). And that's without any elemental defence.
You must be mistaken about having lost all that health

Monsters also have a status. Really if you don't have perfect defenses you'll die in less than 3 hits.

You're wearing Skolver and BTS. Neither of these have any elemental defence.
Lumbers deal a stupid high amount of split normal-elemental damage with their slams, on top of the potential to inflict two statuses (Stun, and whatever theme they're associated). This is going to break a BTS pretty darn quick. Mecha Knights also do a stupid high amount of split normal-elemental damage with their charges, along with one potential status.

The thing is, you should not be trying to tank charge attacks and stuff like that with a BTS. It does have enough normal defence and health in it to take the edge of a Lumber slam without damaging you, but it is still not a good idea to do so since it may well end up breaking, not to mention you're still liable to be flung across the room. I would recommend you take a GOwlite shield if you know you're going to be in a Construct level and you have difficulty with them. Either that, or back off quickly/shieldbump once you see them winding up for an attack.

Unfortunately, there are rarely ever good places to rest in the Clockworks; I went AFK on a party pad waiting for another person and ended up coming back to two corpses and a bunch of Greavers.

Also, there are no such things as critical hits.

No way to prove...

Yup, as there is no official information for that

But the fact is if you're not using the right gear for your job, you will be Critically screwed easily.
