Hey there and thanks for reading! so this is an old idea of mine im just tweaking.

So! As you know, after reaching the Core, theres little to do aside from the usual questing, which is fine. But, Faction Mode offers a prologue to the story.Basically, this would be an expansion pack and the story follows multiple splinters within the Spiral Order causing "friction" among the ranks. So,guilds choose an area (like Devilish Drudgery for example) to set up a military base where they start their campaign.

The GM would then disband guildies in teams(equipped with lockdown classes) to scout or "conquer" the surrounding area by heading to the "command post" (an arena like trap room) and eliminating the enemies, you then claim that clockwork level as yours. Now,as your guild expands, your will eventually run into rival guilds,at which point the opposing guild squads will either engage in combat,or call a ceasefire and notify their GMs until further notice.(making it a neutral disputed area)

Now,if your not in a guild dont fret.Participation is purely optional and if you do join, you wander Cradle conquering your own territories and being something of a War Lord,or you could always guild hop as a Sword for Hire and work for various guilds, for a price of course, making your own profit as opposed to working for the guilds common wealth. In addition,as a War Lord, you could easily grind enemies for materials and supply nearby forces in exchange for cash! Also join up with some friends and stake claim to some land too!

SO! basically this mode is for those looking for bigger purpose in a guild,or continuing the story of SP.It would extend a loose prologue to the story and would require a several new areas to accommodate the multitude of guilds. This would require massive work OOO's part but the outcome would be well worth it.Now may the advice and criticism begin.Give your thoughts on the idea and bring up your own too!

-Thanks for Reading.

What is SP?

This is called "remaking the game entirely because I want there to be a Spiral Knights version of Planetside".

Sounds like a whole new game

Seems like you are making a whole new game bro xD
Not the best suggestion.

If there were to be something like this in the game, it should be part of an expansion pack (just the whole idea of doing some missions with LD equipment).

I'd like to see an expansion where some rogue knights jack some of Krogmo's LD gear, and knights have to go and get it back.

Well, we don't really "quest". In fact, after completing missions, which could be called "questing", and reaching the core, we don't "quest" at all.

We also have 1 single faction, and have no real reason to be splintered and have friction with Spiral HQ. We're all grunts under the HQ. And even assuming some random uprising by us grunts, why would there be 2 factions? Rebels & Empire? We have nothing to gain by causing friction, as even enemies would befriend each other in times where you are marooned on a planet. We're already united in obtaining minerals, something really screwy would have to happen to change that.

It's too loose and vague, it sounds like an excuse for the story to digress from the core ever opening while catering to the only unbalanced part of this game, PvP.

by "quest" i mean clockworks, and the prologue is admittingly rough, its not an excuse, just a work in progress moreover. So far all i have is that the "grunts" as you call em,felt used and kinda revolt or something, the factions are just guilds not anything like spiral order vs dissidents, but the latter would be the "technical factions" in the background, but the actual players are just taking advantage of the turmoil to stake claim to their own territory.Thats what i have so far when it comes to story.Id like to hear some ideas you have to expand it so its more solid though, thanks for the feedback.

Ehh

I already have enough PS2 in my life. SK is good where it's at, maybe a few adjustments, and this would be my favorite game. The whole thing about the Order splitting, I agree with Sev, excuse my french, but [scrap] would REALLY have to hit the fan for the Order to crack.

Errm, wish I had read this

Errm, wish I had read this post before, instead of wasting my time posting something so similar xD

I was thinking along the same lines, except:

  • Don't make it exploratory - require guild membership. This helps organization, and anyone that wants to participate can join <insert generic pvp guild here>.
  • Have this portion of the clockworks accessible from a combat zone you would access from a room type in the guild hall.
  • Have your guild hall combat zone he breachable by other guilds, requiring defenses and what not.
  • Using elevators to expand actually require time to activate, sort of what happens with the arcade ones, and you can delay or advance if you are in the zone being breached.
  • Have some neutral zones you own contribute in special ways, either by allowing what types of defense you can or cannot have.
  • Maintaining your guild hall combat zone nets you resources that help with guild maintenance. Taking another nets you a special bonus for a short while.
  • Elevator access and zone ownership could also shift due to clockworks rearranging itself.
  • What could cause this conflict between spiral knights? Well, Spiral HQ is focusing only on core access from Haven, but due to limited manpower, they have no choice but to charter unrestrained, unrestricted, and unsupervised access to the rest of the clockworks to guilds, which they purchase as room types and pay a small upkeep for. Some guilds will inevitable have "disagreements" over who should own the resources, but spiral HQ already has its hands full with the core, gremlins, and what not.

To be honest, I see lore as a non-issue. Spiral knights doesn't really have a strong backstory or lore preventing something this. Seriously, lockdown and blast network already has us trying at each other's throat. This is bloodthirsty arena combat, gladiator combat. But when different guilds compete for the same resources, the only conclusion is that they have to play nice?

This gameplay isn't PlanetSide 2, nor does PlanetSide 2 have a monopoly over this type of gameplay. Guild Wars 2 WvWvW anyone?

    +999 to this.

Well, there's always the lag problem. 6v6 LD with 8/12 players Polaris spamming is bad enough, but you're talking about a whole nother(this looks terrible when I type it) level. Either way, it might be cool if implemented correctly, but it would involve:
-An extremely large amount of coding and development time, bug fixing, etc
-OOO having that time to produce this update and not go bankrupt and kill their game from lack of updates in the meantime
-A drastic change to the way the game is played, which is not necessarily a bad thing but many things have priority over this type of update.

Oh, and just because you don't care about the lore doesn't mean it's okay to screw it up so completely. LD/BN are for sport, like paintball or wrestling.

    Just to reply to your

Just to reply to your points.

It could still be 6v6 per zone. I doubt the engine can support many more, if only largely steeming from rendering issues.

It might take some significant amount of coding, but they already have the framework for persistent user-based placement with the guild halls, and they've been doing a lot of work with dynamically accesing areas, as they've proven with their mission and guild hall updates. I can't speak for OOO, but I hardly think they are in any danger of going bankrupt. To be honest, neither you or I can really speak with regards to their development capacity, we can only suggest.

It's also not a drastic change to the way the game is played, it's just another layer added on top of it. You can still go to the arcade, you can still play lockdown, you can still do missions, but now, you can also play true GvG.

And with lore ... I just stated a way the lore could be adapted ... hardly "screw it up it up so completely".

Paintball and wresting don't have you blowing yourselves up with the same weapons you would use to fight your aggressors. You don't play paintball with an AK-47 with a custom scope and explosive rounds modded into it. If you can only think of it as a sport, then you can think of this suggestion as a sport as well. This is a minor point..

    I suppose.

I just think OOO should spend their time on fixing things and finishing current projects, first and foremost. Ideally, finish the battle sprites and then take a break from new content to BALANCE THE F**KING GAME.

Hey guys, sorry i havent been on in awhile, but i totally agree with you End of Input,we should work on this together actually but it wouldnt require guild membership, team up with friends to do the same or work alone as a merc as stated, the guild hall IS the HQ so if it goes,so does your territory,i dont know about neutral zones aside from the disputed areas mentioned, but the elevator shifts and changes would be cool.A lass, I still need a solid story as to why the knights would revolt though...thanks for the feedback though
