So yeah, CE prices are better than before! Cheers!!!And all of us have been buying CE for nice amount of crowns and blah blah blah...

What the heck do you want?

Come on, chill down guys, I'll tell you.

I was thinking about something. Would it be better if OOO decides to make an enormous CE Tank, that everyone and anyone can buy anytime for a specified price they choose? For example, I need 100 CE, ok, I will open the Market Tab, buy 100 CE for 6500 crowns and that's it. The price will be the same all the time unless OOO decides to lower it or raise it.

Would that ruin the economy?
Is it exploitable?
Thoughts?

"Would it be better if OOO decides to make an enormous CE Tank, that everyone and anyone can buy anytime for a specified price they choose?"
-Is this the keg at someone's party that everyone tap's into freely? :P

And no, buying CE from OOO with crowns doesn't benefit them as much as players buying CE with real money does. . .currently.

The real question is, if you took a poll, how many players would quit spiral knights if they couldn't buy their CE with crowns?
Without even getting the numbers I can probably tell you the answer. It would be like the sun running out of its source of fuel and exploding into a fiery super-nova.

What really gets me is this. . .on steam it says "Spiral Knights is free to play, no subscription is required to enjoy everything the game has to offer"
well if no one sold CE on the market then you technically wouldn't be able to enjoy everything the game has to offer, unless of course, the two star gear is everything this game has to offer???

Also on steam, Spiral Knights is not on the top 10 most popular free to play games. which sux :(
small sparks thrown, and a little ranting. . .my apologies.

When CE is sold on the current crown-CE market, only 2% of the crowns are destroyed through fees to Three Rings. The remaining crowns are transferred to another player. Typically, people who buy crowns with CE are doing so because they don't have time to play levels for hours and hours and hours. Wealthy players trade a bit of money for their time.

If Three Rings created a CE Tank, all crowns would be destroyed in any crown-CE transaction. This would upset the current economy significantly. There would be a massive drop in the number of crowns in existence, making things like guild hall purchases and punch rolls much more difficult (activities that wealthy players often use). In addition, it is likely that auction house prices would drop significantly.

EDIT: I just realized you may be suggesting that Three Rings only fix the CE price, and that the CE would still be sold by other players. That would be interesting, but I think a free market is better. People are motivated by profit.

If OOO made 100 CE

If OOO made 100 CE "universally" worth x amount of crowns, and players still sold/bought for this amount of crowns in the same such interface as we have now, that presents a rather big "problem." How is it decided "who comes first?" How would our "orders" be sorted if it's not lowest to highest, and vice versa? First come first serve? That would take forever to sell/buy if there is a backlog with very few buying/selling.

It's pretty simple

All you have to do is take Macroeconomics to know that imposing a price ceiling above the equilibrium price (currently around 6.5k-7k Cr) will effectively do nothing since the price wouldn't normally go above equilibrium anyway unless some variable changes. However, if their price ceiling was set below equilibrium, it would cause a shortage since more people will demand it and fewer people will want to supply it.

Nothing is simple.

There are far more variables than just Supply and Demand at work in Spiral Knights. If there was a price ceiling in the form of a CE vendor, once the ceiling was below it, then the shortage would quickly resolve itself, and people would gladly sell their energy at the established price, or somewhat below the established price, as the supply of energy would be forcibly increased to an equilibrium. This would benefit the game by quite a bit, but would not benefit sales in the least.

Goofio's predicament is also resolved however- as soon as the price of CE being sold by players lowers itself to fit comfortably underneath the price ceiling, "normal" market behavior would resume and we would not Spiral out of control.
