Friends has been asking me, how come your so pro? How do you can switch weapons fast? What is your secret? etc? Well, the simple reason is my alternate control layout. So those who think that the default controls are a little stiff, or wanting to find a better alternative to out-win your foes, you should give this control layout a try. Maybe it will help you own some noobs! =D

Major Control Layout:
Action - Left Mouse
Defend - Right Mouse and/or space
Prev Weapon - Q
Next Weapon - E
Auto Target - Left Shift

Then lastly...
Uncheck the box that says "Auto Target"

(Meh, I just think its good)
Minor Control Layout:
Toggle Hud - H
Screenshot - \

Personally, I find these controls much more flexible, quick, and easy to use. My suggestion is only hold onto the Auto Target Button (Left Shift) if your attacking 1 or 2 foes. Now if your attacking more than one foe, keep your finger off the shift button!
Hopes this helps improve people's gameplay!

I personally use my left

I personally use my left click as my shield, my right click as my attack and my mouse wheel to change weapons.

I forgot about the option to check-off Auto Target though, so thanks there. I've noticed it's been messing me up sometimes when I try to attack in a certain way.

Similarly...

I have next-weapon on 'f' and shield on 'space' for the same reasons as the OP, faster reactions there, plus spacebar is the best to shield and still press movement keys easily.

I'm kind of thinking of making Q and E to 'move left' and 'move right'. You can do some nice circular kiting with relative movement that's hard to do with aswd, but I'm not sure moving in curves instead of lines is important enough. I might use Q and E for first and second vial instead... but there's a balance between 'reaching for the numbers' and 'accidentally holding a vial' to be considered.

When I open up more weapon slots I'll probably make 'r' for 'previous weapon'.

@Tipiak

The default is left-click move and right-click attack, so he merely put defend on left-click instead.

I left that as-is, but I've considered moving defend to the mouse (left shift right now).

@FBJon indeed... my

@FBJon
indeed... my mistake...
Actually I have the reverse setting for my mouse (left attack, right block) and for some reason it seemed "natural" [left click easier than right?]

@Tipiak--That's probably

@Tipiak--That's probably because you use the left mouse button for clicking far more often than the right, and you click to attack more often than hold the button to shield. My thinking, anyway. I've got the same setup.

What do people think about auto-targeting? Sometimes it really helps if I lose track of my mouse in the heat of battle, but other times it directs me away from what I actually want to attack. I wish we could use another key (tab comes to mind) to toggle through targets. It would feel more like Z-targeting from the Zelda series.

Auto-target

When I'm using a Flourish series weapon, I really want to have auto-target on, because the second and third attacks in the combo for that weapon require a lot of precision in order to hit. When I'm using a Cutter series weapon, on the other hand, I like having auto-target off, as it makes it easier to slash through a ball of enemies on a tangent so my forward movement carries me away from their attacks.

Unfortunately, I switch between the two weapon types frequently :P. Lately I've been running with auto-target off, and hoping I get better at aiming my Flourish thrusts.
