I haven't really read through this general section of the forums so I don't know if other people have had the same ideas or not. Thus I will please ask for constructive comments and no claims of I did that first. :P
I've always had a problem (especially with wolvers and those knight-like constructs) of getting completely surrounded and pinned against a wall with absolutely no hope of survival and even less chances of breaking free, so I came up with the idea to implement a sort of shield bash in order to knock enemies a short distance away, thus giving you at least a slight glimpse of freedom before everyone decides it would be a good idea to come crashing down on you a second time and end your short, miserable knightly existence.
I imagined it working as either physically swinging your shield in an arc in front of you but that seemed too typical and I couldn't think of any reason that there should be a recharge time. Then I started thinking, "what if you could do a sort of 'manual overload', thus destroying your shield as if it took too much damage, and causing a shockwave like from a powered sword or bomb attack?". I think it would definitely up our chances of survival and it might give us that little edge we need to take care of all those danger rooms while still leaving us a little vulnerable because of the whole depletion of the shield aspect, which also makes it so we can't just use it all the time or else we would never have shields to protect us.
Another thing I would like to see happen is the option of having the extra powers available in LD (sprinting, invisibility and super-shield) to be available down in the clockworks. I wouldn't expect it early on but I think it would be extremely useful in tier 3 as it would give players an extra challenge of planning together to get the best strategy in order to survive the final sprint to the core.
I've come up with several weapon suggestions such as the use of a spear (like the larger enemies in the legion of Almire recon rangers prestige mission) and thrown weapons like what Gremlin thwackers use.
I imagine the spear being used as a lunging weapon, allowing a knight to travel much greater distances than with a weapon like the flourish, rigadoon and snarble barb, with the charge attack being a sort of sweeping motion, attacking multiple enemies at once, perhaps in order to inflict a status condition more openly.
I imagine thrown weapons to act exactly like what the gremlin thwackers do. A simple charge attack, ending in a hammer or axe (or maybe a javelin :P) being hurled at an opponent. I also imagine that these weapons would be restricted to three star (possibly four star) and up as this would provide players with a ranged weapon and a close combat combat weapon in one single slot (seems a little one sided, though the ranged attack would have to be charged, making it much slower than a gun. perhaps it would have to be slightly more powerful, or maybe travel through enemies in order to hit more than one).
That's all of what I think right now, maybe I'll come up with more in the future!
just some of my odd suggestions and how they could possibly work
with the shield thing yeah we already have shield bumping and plus OOO wants us to die(in the game) to revive and spend ce makes them money
with the ld things that would make the game alot easier which would not be a good idea
but with the spear i +1 that (yeah it could be thought out more) but hey its another weapon i dont know y people keep hating on peoples weapon ideas unless there just too overly exaggerated. but if OOO made the weapons, tell me u wouldn't go and craft it and use it just because it was new
This game is already easy as it is. Just try not to get cornered by anything. If knights can corner enemies, then why can't enemies corner knights? Plus, we have the shield bump, which is already a big advantage. (Imagine mecha knights and gremlins have the bumping ability.-._.)
So I have read all the posts above and I honestly think that people should give his thoughts a bit more time and some better opinions... he did ask for constructive comments, not ones that just bashed his ideas. The whole idea of a forum is to discuss certain ideas with other players... no one is getting anywhere if all it is is negative comments. Yes I understand there will be those who troll, and those who have nothing good to say... but I think people should give a little bit more time to think about what other people are saying before they go and immediately so "no, that's a horrible idea"...
With this said, I think that this shield bash thing is actually a great idea. I know that already have the shield bump, but it honestly... in my opinion isn't enough... it will knock back the enemies a short distance.. but it is not nearly enough when you have in excess of 10 enemies surrounding you. I think that if you can surround enemies than of course they can you... but I also think that we should have a shield bash of some kind that is a bit stronger than what we have now. There will have to be stipulations with it, obviously a major cool down time (because 3OOO wants to make money off of ce), but I think we should really think about it. Perhaps it could be bought like as a trinket upgrade for your shield... or maybe it could be a unique variant that we could add on if we farmed for the crowns for it, or perhaps it could be bought with energy. These are just some ideas that I was thinking... maybe it won't be available to all .. because maybe certain people don't need it... but some players do. I know that I get cornered sometimes and there isn't really anything I can do... that is not for the lack of skill or talent in playing the game... it just happens sometimes... especially when playing with others who are newer to the game... so despite the fact that we have a shield bump, I think adding in a shield bash ability might be a good thing as long as it is not overpowered...
I don't necessarily agree with the LD classes being available on the regular clockwork runs... I definitely think they are way too overpowered and that is why they are only used in the arena capture the flag mode... I think they would make the game way too easy because our knights would be stronger than any of the enemies... they would have to re-balance the entire game in order to do this. I do understand your point though about it making the game more difficult because you would have to strategize about which unique ability you would want... and perhaps only one member can choose one ability and the other party members would have to choose different ones... (i.e one ability per member of party)... but again... as they are now.. they might make the game more difficult... but that is only if 3OOO made changes to the difficulty of the enemies... etc. So for now, I don't think it is a good idea to necessarily do this. It would take a lot more thought and time... I'll think more about it and get back to you.
As for the spear idea, I think that would be kinda neat... I know we have flourishes... but I honestly think the flourishes... are annoying to use. So perhaps a retake on the idea would be good for some players who don't like using the flourishes. A spear that would have a greater range than what we are used to is always useful in combat... perhaps it would only be a 4* or 5* weapon, one that is more difficult to get (depending on it's unqiue-ness). Guns are nice, but they could definitely add in some new weapons... and you know that you would at least take a look at them... every one loves new weapons.
As for throwing weapons... I think that would make the game kinda cool! It might be difficult to add them into the game as actual weapons as it is as you say... unfair to have both a close range and a throwing weapon at the same time... it throws off the balance of being able to equip a sword and a gun... but mind you... people can equip two swords or two guns if they want... it's up to the players discretion... 3OOO could always open up a third weapon slot... and have it for only throwing weapons... that'd be alright I think.. or they could make throwing weapons as drops too on the maps.... it would make the "search and discovery" of the game more interactive... I love running maps... but man it gets so boring quickly... I think 3OOO should think about how they can make their maps more interactive to their players by adding in more rpg elements like finding drops like weapons or special abilities... it would make the game more exciting!
Plus I think that they really need to start designing maps to have more hidden areas... behind "locked" doors... like you know how you can inspect things when you get close to them... they should do that and then have like hidden doors appear when you inspect something (and maybe these inspection sights would only show up if you have certain equipment equipped.. or be a certain level on certain maps)... cause we all know that spending 3ce to open doors gets costly and sometimes you have to for go doors... although in my mind not all the doors are worth opening.
I have more ideas as well that I would like to share to people, but I will leave my post at this for now.
Remember people... it is a lot easier to bash some one than it is to actually think about what they are saying and come up with a constructive opinion...so at least try not to be that negative troll.
wolvers and mecha knights pin you down in a corner? /facepalm
Anyways you can already shield bump, wich is almost the same thing you're suggesting. Are we playing the same game? :P
About LD clasess, they won't work on regular levels. Too overpowered. A single special mission with striker/recon? Maybe...
Spear... so it's similar to flourish, but better? (more range) Then it's overpowered and renders said flourishes useless.
Unless there's a hidden drawback you didn't mention....
