Collaborative Fiction Roleplay Experiment

I would like to test a couple new ways to do roleplaying. One of the recurring problems in these stories is the innumerable posts and pages, making it easy to get lost. I would like to try out a few new ways to deal with the problem.
The first one I would like to test is a method I will call "story editing." You will have one post, and only one post, for the duration of the roleplay. Any new activities and actions will be edited into it. For cleanliness, you may want to divide it into sections. One drawback of this method will be that it will generate insanely large posts; hence, you may wish to generate a table of contents, with anchor links running to the different parts of your story. Refer to this link to learn how to do that.
The other method I would like to test is simpler. I will call it "story linking." Whenever you add a story post to the roleplay, create a link to the post it replies to. This will be particularly useful if your post contains several story arcs at once. It will help the readers keep track of the story, so they don't have to keep scrolling back to recap. To create a link to another comment, control-click (or right-click) on the comment number and choose "Copy link location." Refer to these tips on how to use it.
I would also like to try out a whole new style of roleplaying. Instead of everyone making their own characters and hoping for the best, there will be a list of characters to choose from, and you are not allowed to create your own. In theory, this should prevent players from getting isolated and ignored during the roleplay, since each character has a well-defined purpose. I don't know whether this will work in practice, however; hence the experiment.
Today's story will be a simple one. Four knights of the Rose are sent into the Emerald Skull Gate to recover the Gloaming Wildwoods recon module. They will pass through Aurora Isles Jelly Farm, Jigsaw Valley Emerald Axis, Treasure Vault, Terminal, Terrilous Trail, Roarsterous Ruins, and Lair of the Snarbolax, respectively. We will use the story-editing method first, and will proceed to story-linking in the sequel.
The four characters to choose from are:
Treville, squad leader, Red Rose costume with Vog Cub set, Scarlet Shield, & Furious Flameberge
Rochefort, squad recon, Black Rose costume with Snarbolax set, Barbarous Thorn Shield & Barbarous Thorn Blade
Valentine, squad striker, White Rose costume with Skolver set, SSB, & Daring Rigadoon (Valentine is a female)
Artagnan, squad guardian, Blue Rose costume with Heavenly Iron set, Barbarous Thorn Shield, & Final Flourish
The story will not officially begin until everyone all the characters have been claimed.
Treville: [n/a]
Rochefort: Unstable-Ordinance
Valentine: [n/a]
Artagnan: Thinslayer
@Unstable-Ordinance: We will use the story-editing method first, and will proceed to story-linking in the sequel. Thanks for making me clarify.
@Snowdusk: Glad to know it's not a terrible idea here. :D
@Seatus: I'd still invite you to join. We're still here to have fun, and I don't mind reading long stories. In fact, I like long stories.

I'll be watching this RP :)
Busy schedules keeping me busy, so I can't join this one.

I could never join this fanfic, and some other people couldn't either...I would fill up an entire post with FOUR POSTS!!! XD
EDIT: Actually, there is a limit of 9999 characters. My stories range from 2500-1700 characters....lol

As much as I'd like to give these ideas a shot, like Snowdusk, I am rather busy. I'll be sneaking in a few peeks at it from time to time though :)

Seatus, would you like to play as the Snarbolax in this RP?
EDIT: I'm tired of waiting for new players. We shall begin!

"ARTAGNAN!!"
Artagnan just laughed as he sprinted away through the tall grass, with a very angry NPC following him. According to the NPC, Artagnan had kissed his sister. Now why would he do such a thing? She was tall, rouge, wavy-haired, slim...okay, okay, maybe he gave her a little peck. What of it?
"ARTAGNAN! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!"
Okay, that's what of it. He sprinted into Haven and darted behind a vendor. The NPC tried to follow him, but tripped over the trinket stand and slipped over several Elite Boom Modules. Artagnan was about to stay and laugh at him, but by then the NPC had regained his footing. Artagnan started to back away. "Uh oh. Ah, hey! Whassup?" He then darted away, with the NPC in hot pursuit.

"So, um, hi. You're pretty."
Ugh, thought Valentine. The guy was a fat slob; no way was she going to marry him. "Thank you," she replied politely. Her father looked happy as a skylark, and was practically dancing at the thought of his daughter marrying an important member of the Order. A waiter brought over a tray of doughnuts. "More pastries, sir?" The fat guy, Jehosephat, gladly took a few more and gouged himself on them. The more she watched him, the more Valentine was disgusted by him, and the more her father loved him. Her heart sank as she thought about her future with this...this...disgusting creature. Once dinner was over, she hastily made her way to her chambers, but Jehosephat grabbed her hand and stopped her. "Please m'lady, allow me to speak with you." She desperately wanted to refuse him, but her father was staring at her; there was no way she could refuse. "Very well. Speak on." He collapsed on one knee and took both her hands. "Will you marry me, dear Valentine?" She grimaced and thought for a moment. Maybe I could run away... She took in a deep breath and replied, "No way." Leaving both men utterly surprised, she darted out of the mansion and ran away as fast as her legs could carry her.

I can only focus on Return to Cradle...but maybe after. Or maybe when I finally leave it since no one knows anything about Anubis .-.

I really want to join but I got things occupied for now, I'll be joining this when I have less things to do...
Until then, I shall watch everything unfold...

I won't be able to join as I have school, so I'd only have been able to post often on weekends. I'll look at it however, and give ya some ideas of other test you can do, if that's okay. Here are some things you could try to experiment with to find a good way around it. May or may not be edited. Some annoying things in role-plays that you could find different tests to do to solve them are 1: conversations take so long that they lower interest 2: if a player gets busy and doesn't post for a while, then it gets harder for said person to post anything, as they are left behind. And 3: it is fairly annoying if one person wants to post but there his character has to wait for something to happen to have anything to post about. <-- I actually have I mild idea on how to fix this one. The role play could have set events at set times happen throughout it's happening, and one person could be writing about something that happens at 5:00pm while someone else can be writing about something that happens at noon.

Thanks for your input! The story-editing method is intended to reduce the number of posts (and hence the size of conversations), but they will inevitably become very long, making it necessary to link to sections within your own post.
@Unstable-Ordinance: It took me a while, but I think I now understand what you're getting at. It's a good idea, and I'll try to have it implemented (provided we get enough players to even get this thing started).
Back @Dmatter:
1. Unstable-Ordinance's method should take care of that.
2. Having only one post to write in should help with that; in my experience, players get lazy and don't want to have to click through prior pages to find the spot where they left off. It takes time to wait for a page to load. Having only one page to look through should help.
3. I think you're on to something there, but it will need refinement. I'll propose a modification below.
Re: 3. One of the recurring problems in RP storytelling is having to wait for other characters to post before you can continue. The usual workaround is godmoding, which advances the story at another player's expense. One way to make godmoding unnecessary is to, in a sense, "totally godmode" the characters. The moderator provides an outline of the story which all players must adhere to (that's the "total godmode"), and the players just fill in the blanks. This had the disadvantage of removing all surprise and spontaneity from the roleplay, and kinda makes it boring.
Another method is to allow godmoding, but if the godmoded character's player is written to do something different, then the first player must modify his story accordingly. This has the benefit of advancing the story at a rapid pace, and should provide a means of rectification should the victim player dislike what happens to his character, but has the disadvantage of being clumsy to implement, and encourages an unpleasant practice.
One other method I would like to consider is what I would call "contribution-summation." Each player contributes their idea of what their character is doing at that moment. Once everyone has made their submission, the moderator writes up a post combining everyone's ideas. If the submissions involve conversations, the moderator decides how the conversations show up. I'll write an example of how this works:
{Player 1 [Rochefort's player] writes: Rochefort slashed at Artagnan, shouting at him, "You killed my family! Prepare to die, fiendish scum!" With a skillful flair of his flourish, he disarmed Artagnan and pierced him through the shoulder.}
{Player 2 [Artagnan's player] writes: Artagnan opened the fight with a deft jab at Rochefort's leg, which the latter brushed away with his flourish and retaliated with an overhead swing. Artagnan shifted to the side, dodging it, and cut off Rochefort's arm. Rochefort sneered. "That just tickled! You can never, NEVER defeat the great Rochefort! Muah ha ha ha ha!"}
{Moderator writes: Artagnan opened the fight with a jab at Rochefort's leg. Rochefort deflected it and returned with a pair of strong horizontal slashes, just barely missing Artagnan's tabard. He was filled with righteous fury, angry that his family had been unjustly slain and desirous of sweet revenge. "You have slain my family and dishonored my name! Now yours shall suffer the same fate! I am in the right, Artagnan; you cannot defeat a just executioner." Artagnan responded by slashing Rochefort's shoulder.}
Player 1's description of Rochefort's words takes precedence over Player 2's because he is the primary handler of the character, but the moderator does not ignore Player 2's description entirely. Also note that he combines their perceptions of how the battle proceeded. Player 1 thinks that Rochefort was slashing wildly (and presumably horizontally), while Player 2 has a more detailed (and different) description. Both are incorporated into the combined story.

Knights walked, snipes fluttered, and Strangers sold wares. Rochefort however, stole money. Hiding in a clump of dewy bushes, he plotted his next move. Grabbing his state of the art Recon Cloak, he activated it and slid it onto his back as it disappeared in his hands. Within seconds, he was invisible. Technically, using Spiral Order equipment was illegal in Haven, but it isn’t against the law if you don’t get caught right? He picked out his target: a portly knight wearing extravagant clothing and yelling about wanting to sell accessories. Rochefort hid behind a dustbin and tossed a crown in the knight’s general direction.
Intrigued, the rich knight followed the sound. Once he was out of view, Rochefort grabbed the man, pulled him into an alleyway and clamped a hand over his mouth before he could scream. After half a minute, the rich person collapsed onto the ground. Rochefort helped himself to the man’s pockets, stealing various trinkets and knickknacks to sell to the pawnbroker. He was Rochefort’s kind of person, didn’t ask too many questions. After he was sufficiently satisfied with his loot, he spat on the knight and disappeared into thin air. After what happened to his brother, he didn’t feel any compassion for rich people like him.
After selling the non-cash rewards, he was about to turn a corner when a man in a Red Rose costume pulled him close and whispered, “What have you heard about the Snarbolax?”.
Rochefort! I choose you! Are we going to be using story editing or story linking?
EDIT: Also, a suggestion. Since wading through a characters post for the entire story may be tiresome, why not make it so that the character has one post for a certain scene, predetermined by the OP and can only edit that post. Adding * when you post new edits would probably also be helpful for readers e.g. Tears rolled down Rochefort's eyes. *He had never seen death and destruction on such a scale before*. He had never seen death and destruction on such a scale before is the edited passage.
